You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Sorry if that sounds so preachy!

The middle aged, middle class lady uniform

Yep 😂

That’s a serious amount of weight loss in 1 year mother

Can’t join in the dress discussion. Can’t stand dresses, refuse to wear them.

I’ve done all my marking. Just need to sort my planning for the week. Sad I was in bed by 8.30pm last night, so fucking tired it’s untrue.

HarrietDVane · 16/05/2021 13:46

This term does seem to be more gruelling than usual. I can see why for those of you in secondary who are battling with TAGs on top of everything else, but even in primary, everyone seems to have that haunted, exhausted look.

MrsHamlet · 16/05/2021 13:55

I'm writing a presentation about post covid recovery... all I can think of is gin and napping

Sureitwillbegrand · 16/05/2021 13:58

Hello, sorry just dropping this in the mix, hope your all having a lovely weekend. A programme I wish I could watch (do not open around children as there are a couple of swear words!)

@JanFebAnyMonth - do not open this link 😂

StaffRepFeistyClub · 16/05/2021 14:14

I’ve been fine after my second Pfizer actually

I've definitely felt ropey this weekend. Almost constant headache. Am wondering if it's not the vaccine but just life in general!!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 16/05/2021 15:26

I'm pleasantly surprised (touch wood) to have got away with mild side effects after my AZ #1 yesterday lunchtime.

Temp of 38.8 last night but that's gone. Felt cold then hot. And I have a few nightly aches and a mild on-and -off headache. But that's it.

HarrietDVane · 16/05/2021 16:09

That's good news @DrMadelineMaxwell. I'm suspiciously ok following my jab - my arm aches but no other symptoms yet (unless you count a depressed and listless attitude towards doing any more of the work I've brought home).

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/05/2021 16:17

Singapore seem to be closing all their schools and moving to online learning.

And yes, the number of daily new cases that seems to have triggered that is 38 and not the tens of thousands we had in January. Not sure about the affecting children more, but might be worth keeping an eye on.

Appuskidu · 16/05/2021 16:18

@StationView

Popping in to say that Weird Fish have some jersey dresses with pockets in their sale ATM. I have the Viola in navy and it's great. Please, fellow teachers, buy the others so that I don't Grin
I rather like this! What’s the fabric like—it’s not too thick, is it? And the sizing?!
JanFebAnyMonth · 16/05/2021 16:29

OK so even if we didn’t all have the same dress to begin with, we’re all going to end up with the same dress! Can you imagine what it would be like in our fantasy school?!
Grin

Piggywaspushed · 16/05/2021 16:42

Weird Fish doesn't fit me very well so you are safe with me!

Piggywaspushed · 16/05/2021 16:43

rafa probably thinks we are all very shallow ignoring her important post about Singapore.

They certainly do do things very differently in the Far East.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/05/2021 16:55

Not at all.

I’m very much the wrong shape for dresses though. I can never find anything that fits or suits me.

borntobequiet · 16/05/2021 17:15

I remember what seemed to be the whole English department coming in wearing the same Per Una cardigan in about 2000.

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/05/2021 17:40

Apparently infection rates in Bolton 10-19s have tripled in a week....

Sureitwillbegrand · 16/05/2021 17:49

I'm still struggling to understand - What's the point in a vaccination programme (getting the vaccine as a teacher) when 99% of the people you are interacting with won't be vaccinated? Someone please explain it to me.
PS - have had jab 1

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 16/05/2021 17:50

we’re all going to end up with the same dress

Me and the school business manager must have the same wardrobe.

Cracklefraggle · 16/05/2021 17:52

I need to tap into the collective wisdom!!

I am filling out an application for a new job but have come across a problem with regards to references. First one HT - no problem. Second one "Other Professional (where you are not currently employed with children, this must be your most recent school / college / employer prior to your current employer)"

This has been my only school!! My last placement school no longer exists nor does the school I worked at for a year before doing my PGCE. My first placement school was 17 years ago - obviously no-one working there would know me from Adam.

Any ideas??? Can't really phone to check as the application is in tomorrow and I am teaching all day.

Piggywaspushed · 16/05/2021 17:54

Oh yes but on many threads the finger pointing is all aimed at the older Asian community. It is still the unvaccinated teens driving spread. Hopefully, community leaders can get the message out to older family members to protect themselves.

CallmeHendricks · 16/05/2021 17:55

I've just seen something published saying that Singapore has closed all its schools due to the Indian variant affecting 10-19 year https://www.scmp.com/week-asia/health-environment/article/3133695/coronavirus-singapore-close-schools-wednesday-amid?

crackle Two people from your current school with a not explaining? They can always ask for someone else later if needed.

Cracklefraggle · 16/05/2021 17:59

Thanks Herc that's what I was thinking tbh. Can't see what else I could do Confused
