You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Bloody hate Sports Day! Every year I am policing the stands and supervising litter picking. The PE department are getting excited whilst a load of staff are desperately trying to book a second COVID jab for the day before or on sports day. 8.30 till 3 🥱😴

Thanks Staff. Wow last one went fast! DS has had second vaccine 🎉😊 Hope everyone coping with TAGS. Crazy times.

motherrunner · 12/05/2021 05:32

Morning all!

Should be having second vaccine Sat. Head has emailed us to say the clinic has contacted her. Hope I’m not as ill as first time. DH had his first finally yesterday. He was offered Pfizer and AZ, he said he didn’t care and they have him AZ. All his family said ‘whaaaat???’

The mask thread got a bit crazy didn’t it? Just catching up as was attending an online lecture on the presentation of women in classical literature last night - such a geek! Was brilliant though.

Think the marking load hit me yesterday when friends asked it we could meet up over Whitsun and I said I couldn’t as Yr 11 will have 2 assessments that final week, Yr 13 will have 2 and also it’s Yr 10 exam week so I’ll have 30 Lang and Lit papers to mark. Least can do it in my pjs.

The FDA has just approved Pfizer for ages 12+ in America. That's encouraging for the plan to vaccinate secondary kids from September.

MrsHerculePoirot · 12/05/2021 06:34

Thanks!

HarrietDVane · 12/05/2021 06:37

Thanks for the new thread Staff!

eitak22 · 12/05/2021 06:47

monkey Thats great news!

ArnottsUnderpass · 12/05/2021 06:54

Thanks @StaffRepFeistyClub

Didn't sleep lastnight. Stressed....

TheHoneyBadger · 12/05/2021 07:07

Morning and thanks for the new thread.

Having my second jab this morning - thankfully it's cold with blue skies here as we were queuing in the street for ages last time. According to my app though it's going to rain everyday for the next 20 days Hmm

Hope you got some sleep Harriet. I know how these things can play on your mind.

That’s amazing news! Both my DC will be 12+ by autumn.
DanglingMod · 12/05/2021 07:55

Anyone's school made a decision to keep masks yet? Ours is yet to decide but is taking staff voice. Several students asked me yesterday if they could keep wearing them even if as a school we drop them.

WhenSheWasBad · 12/05/2021 08:36

Thanks for the new thread.

I’ve got a stupid NQT question. I need to hand my notice in. New job starts on 1st Sept (thanks for all the congratulations on the last everyone, means a lot).

When I hand in my resignation do I put down the last day of summer term? Or do I put down 31st August?

DanglingMod · 12/05/2021 08:44

31 August.

singsingbluesilver · 12/05/2021 08:51

Utterly hate sports day. It is the day when a 100 kids who like PE get to show off to 1100 disinterested kids.

I wait for the day when the maths whizzes, historians, artists etc get the chance to do the same. In what other field does the whole school come to a standstill to watch kids participate in one subject? If I want to watch kids who are good at drama I go in my own time to a production. I want to see the art work our talented kids have done - I do it after school.

LolaSmiles · 12/05/2021 09:19

WhenSheWasBad
31st August as you want to be paid over the summer.

13luckyblackcats · 12/05/2021 09:26

Got rear-ended at a roundabout yesterday, think my car is written off, and an invitation for a job interview tomorrow, that I'd already been told I wasn't getting an interview for. Will be a bit annoyed if I have no chance (NQT, SEN post) and have just been invited to bring up numbers. All in all a busy couple of days! Sore back is distracting me.

13luckyblackcats · 12/05/2021 09:26

Well done @WhenSheWasBad!!

MrsHamlet · 12/05/2021 10:17

I hate sports day too. But it will be nice to see the PE dept do something for a change. They've had the dossiest time ever since last March - and that's saying something!!!

TheHoneyBadger · 12/05/2021 10:22

2nd jab was so much quicker and more efficient than the epic queues for the first one. I'm doubled AZ'd now.

JanFebAnyMonth · 12/05/2021 10:29

Brill honey. I have my second Pfizer on Friday.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/05/2021 10:38

Hooray honey.

Who is still waiting for their first?

MsAwesomeDragon · 12/05/2021 11:01

I think noble is still waiting for her first. And a couple of others, but I forget who Blush

4 of my year 7s off today with headaches and feeling sick. Those are generally covid symptoms in younger kids aren't they? Just ones we aren't testing for? DD2 is also feeling ill with headache and feeling sick. Dh is having to deal with her, as I don't feel as if I can take time off right now. If she develops a temperature or a cough we'll obviously isolate, but I would hate to have to do that now!! Hopefully it's something else and she feels better by this evening (it may well be because it's photo day at school and she hates having her photo taken, so nerves/anxiety about that)

MsAwesomeDragon · 12/05/2021 11:08

I hate sports day too, it's rubbish and gives me flashbacks to falling over a hurdle when I was in year 8, humiliating myself in front of the whole lower school (at least it was just years 7 and 8 rather than all the older kids too). I hate having to pressure kids into participating, most of them don't want to do any of it, and I don't blame them!!!

13BlackCats sorry about your car, that's a really rubbish thing to happen!! Good luck with the interview, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you

Def 31 August otherwise some cunning finance person will use it as an excuse to not pay you
