You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Or not liking gin?

MrsHamlet · 24/04/2021 22:11

We just need to have a really good snack and drink cabinet in the staffroom

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/04/2021 22:13

Well done @BigBobBoots!

We’ve just told the kids what topics we’ve taken off the modified exams but not what is on each paper.

Love monster munch and scampi fries. Hate gin.

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/04/2021 22:14

Oh yes and apparently despite completing our assessing and grading internally by 3/4 way through may we are keeping Y11 in lessons until the end of June. We have to teach them normal lessons unless we explicitly request and are granted permission to do something else.... that’s going to be fun. Hope they all vote with their feet frankly.

noblegiraffe · 24/04/2021 22:31

Omg MrsHP that's awful. Ours are assuming that they will leave after May half term but we haven't officially told them that. I've got everything crossed that we don't try to spring staying longer on them.

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/04/2021 22:32

We’re hoping LA day we can do remote transition work after half term, but 🤷‍♀️

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 24/04/2021 22:34

We've not given them a date yet. HT was all for keeping them but the local consensus seems to be May half term. HT doesn't want to give a date and have to change it based on DfE bonkers but predicts they'll go at half term but on the proviso we can call them in if needed for evidence/work before 18th June.

I hope a vote with their feet will happen after half term if we attempt to keep them.

MrsHamlet · 24/04/2021 22:34

Our plan is apparently half term - I've asked the head to confirm so I can book stuff into my diary that is my job but is easier to manage if I don't have to dodge my y11/13 lessons. He's ignoring me.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 24/04/2021 22:38

Our HT will not put anything in writing about it. I only know this through the grape vine. I don't blame them, they're waiting for a DfE announcement on 27th May they have to be in school until 30th June fines and all.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/04/2021 22:43

I get ignored. after Friday I’m thinking ignored might be a good thing.

I’ve badly twisted my ankle on the way home from friends house. Didn’t see the edge of the path in the dark. I’ve iced with soybeans and now heating.

I used to bounce back from such things but noticing I don’t bounce in middle age and a silly misstep can result in days of pain.

JanFebAnyMonth · 24/04/2021 23:23

Oh dear @TheHoneyBadger!

noblegiraffe · 24/04/2021 23:28

Drunk, Honey? Hope you are ok.

When I was out for a walk this evening I saw a drunk couple having an argument in a pub garden about who she was snapchatting, then had to avoid a bloke who was staggering down the road and stopped in a hedge to take a swig from a bottle.

Nature is healing.

Tory Government doesn't consider the ethical or moral implications of their decisions.

And it's not even the first time this week.

MrsHerculePoirot · 25/04/2021 06:48

Oh no honey hope it doesn’t affect ‘our’ step count...

MsAwesomeDragon · 25/04/2021 07:20

I noticed the same thing when I was out for a walk last night noble. One of my regular routes that I've been walking once or twice a week is now not one for a Saturday night. I hadn't noticed but it goes past 3 pubs, and outside each one I had to dodge rowdy drunk men, and there were drunken rows taking place in the beer garden of 2 of these pubs. It was only 8pm as well, I naively wasnt expecting people to be so drunk by then. I think I've forgotten what people are like.

Well done for handing your notice in Bob. You must feel so much happier knowing you have an end date and can take the time you wanted with your family. I almost wish I could do the same, but I rather like my school in normal times and wouldn't want to go anywhere else really, so I'd better stay.

WhenSheWasBad · 25/04/2021 08:07

MrsHercule keeping Year 11 in school after their exams is ridiculous. I can’t get my head round it at all. Have your SLT actually met any teenagers recently.

At least most won’t turn up

TheHoneyBadger · 25/04/2021 08:44

No, not stone cold sober but not drunk. It was really dark and ds insisted on cutting through the pocket park and I couldn't see and turned my ankle on the edge of the path and came down hard. I was literally saying I can't see anything and he was laughing just before I fell.

Luckily for us I'd already been to the gym and had walked a fair bit so we burned 2500 calories but today's steps are going to be low because I have an ankle the size of a melon - someone else will have to take the baton.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 25/04/2021 08:45

I'll take the step baton. Inlaws coming over so need an excuse to be out for a long time!

TheHoneyBadger · 25/04/2021 08:52

Great!

noblegiraffe · 25/04/2021 09:05

I sometimes use the torch on my phone if I'm out when it's dark and I can't see where I'm walking.

Rest up, Honey and take tomorrow off if it's not better.

HarrietDVane · 25/04/2021 09:07

Ouch Honey! Hope you can rest up today.

JanFebAnyMonth · 25/04/2021 10:10

I can throw in my 10 miles yesterday Smile

Appuskidu · 25/04/2021 10:10

I now have a tiny torch on my key ring because I’ve gone lost my footing in the dark before and my ankle has gone over-hurt like hell!

Hope you’re okFlowers

MrsHamlet · 25/04/2021 10:17

I walked to and from my hammock....
