You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Where has it been said that Boris is about to announce something?

WhenSheWasBad · 19/04/2021 22:56

Joining in with the calls for Boris to fuck the hell off.

I’m seriously struggling to manage my workload as it is.

Piggywaspushed · 20/04/2021 06:52

callme, in the TES and various other places. Gavin - who has nothing better to do- has been 'looking into is' and Sir Kevan has been coming up with plans.

It is a very easy way to demonise unions.

Iamnotthe1 · 20/04/2021 07:12

I can't see a positive outcome here.

If the extra time is academically focused:
Even if you put the impact on teachers to one side, longer days and shorter holidays are no good for the kids, especially at primary. Most are shattered by the end of the day and you can see from those in wraparound care that all they want to do is play. It'll also have an enormous mpact on children with SEND (which, in turn, will affect the rest of the class).

If they are play/activity/experience focused and run by external companies:
They won't address the issue that they are being brought in to resolve. It will be babysitting for working parents brought in under the guise of something else. It'll also be yet another way to funnel public money into private enterprise that could be being spent on schools.

We used to run a week long summer school for our most vulnerable incoming y7. It was totally free of charge and we did it by using non teaching staff who were term time only + 2 weeks.
It stopped because parents started being difficult about it - the weather is nice so we're keeping him at home; he's not with his friends.... etc etc.
The ones you want wouldn't come.

BigBobBoots · 20/04/2021 07:24

It is a very easy way to demonise unions.
And to provide a distraction to the many other shitshows going on at the moment.

eitak22 · 20/04/2021 07:43

The extended hours are just for childcare aren't they? The gov will use another excuse but really they want people back to work and more hours for the economy so they're using school for what they actually think it is...

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/04/2021 08:53

Plus it would look like they actually cared

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/04/2021 09:20

Heard seen the police report today saying that things over the past year have been somewhat difficult because sometimes the first Chief Inspectors knew of changes to the law was at the 5pm news conferences?

MrsHamlet · 20/04/2021 16:02

I heard that and laughed mirthlessly

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 20/04/2021 17:07

Hello my fellow enemies of education. I took a break from everything over Easter, even mumsnet, so after catching up on work Sunday and the chaos that was school yesterday (with a 6hr drive home - multi car accident on the main road) I spent today reading through this thread. I missed the last republic and a half though, apologies for my ignorance of everyone's updates.

chocolateisavegetable · 20/04/2021 17:22

Welcome back Hobnob That drive home sounds hideous Shock

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/04/2021 17:33

Oh god. Boris is on about antivirals. I may need all the gin if he’s not lying.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/04/2021 17:36

Possibly it’s you I confused with Jan then Hobnobs.

I’m stuck on the bus caught up on the most badly placed set of temporary traffic lights known to man.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/04/2021 18:15

Better day here, but I was up 6 times in the night with child having nightmares, culminating in her wetting the bed at 5am. Was getting up at 5.45 for swimming, so just laid in bed ordering heavy duty ear plugs and mattress protectors on Amazon.

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/04/2021 18:22

Oh rule, what a night!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/04/2021 18:25

Cool huh! Watch registered 2hrs 47mins sleep.

MrsHamlet · 20/04/2021 18:48

That's grim :( how are you even upright?!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/04/2021 18:51

Coffee.

MrsHamlet · 20/04/2021 18:55

Ah yes!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/04/2021 19:04

Forgot my lunch today too, so pretty much ONLY coffee. Tonight might not be a pretty picture either. Luckily I've got at least 4 hours of work to do that I should have done over the holidays!

MrsHerculePoirot · 20/04/2021 19:15

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot 😱😱😱

MrsHamlet · 20/04/2021 19:44

Oh no Rule

Piggywaspushed · 20/04/2021 20:40

So, Gav's just been on telly. Talking about football, as befits his role.

phlebasconsidered · 20/04/2021 20:44

Apparently I still have to do a year 6 production, except just film it, edit it and put it on the school website. As well as do all the catch up in the world.

Fuck the fucking fuck off. No.

I have been quietly tired and away from online stuff but holy fuck that made me cross. Piss boiling.
