You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

God I love a crumble!

MrsHamlet · 10/04/2021 15:03

It might be crumble. I love crumble :)

motherrunner · 10/04/2021 15:15

I’ve got some frozen berries in the freezer. I might just make myself a crumble now!

Timeturnerplease · 10/04/2021 15:18

I'm sitting in the garden in the sun. Going out for lunch on Tuesday - forecast is not looking good!
Does anyone have any simple recipes for forced rhubarb? I've just picked the first lot

Where is it sunny? Tipping it down here in Sussex. Been cloudy and freezing most of the week. We’ve had an outdoor play date for the toddler each day and I’ve taken to lugging a blanket around (for me, not her).

TheHoneyBadger · 10/04/2021 15:24

Not at all Noble! Grin That is too familiar.

MrsHamlet · 10/04/2021 15:30

It's sunny in Lancaster :) maybe not quite sunny enough for my shorts but I'm committed now!

LolaSmiles · 10/04/2021 15:43

We used to have loads of morning briefings and they are now, joyously, replaced by emails.
We seem to have developed an obsession with whole staff emails and selecting 'reply all'. It is getting on my last nerve and has been adding to workload.
I can't help but point out that I don't need to know is Steven from 8H's mum has called the office, or 6 students are at Maths intervention.
I never thought I'd say this, but I miss department, pastoral and staff meetings where things were discussed and information was due. At the moment there seems to be an increase of requests for information whilst people are teaching and always with a tight turn around, whereas before it would be mentioned in a staff meeting with a deadline.

Michino · 10/04/2021 15:51

Snowing here in my part of North Wales!

noblegiraffe · 10/04/2021 15:51

My school doesn’t allow whole staff emails except from the Head. If you want something to go to all staff you have to submit it during the week and it goes out on a Friday notices for the next week. I’d definitely recommend this as a workload thing!

MrsHamlet · 10/04/2021 15:56

The all staff emails give me the rage, especially when they're about a specific student or group of students. We have email groups for teachers of every student in the school, so it's entirely unnecessary to email everyone.
Even more hated are the "reply all" people. I don't want to know about a child I don't teach having lost his bag. I also don't want to know that Miss Promote Me I'm Self Promoting hasn't seen his bag.

13luckyblackcats · 10/04/2021 16:41

Snowing here too. Luckily went to the allotment this morning when it was cold but clear. Really must get on with job applications, but am too busy convincing myself they won't want me! An doing OU CPD to make my non-existent application look better Hmm

TheHoneyBadger · 10/04/2021 16:42

Just grim in the E.Midlands/East/never entirely sure where I live. Jan will tell you - she's only up the road a bit.

I visited Lancaster for a job interview once MrsH and really liked it. We may have already had this conversation.

The all staff I can just about handle the all staff emails, 'someone called so and so's mum if it was you can you get back to them', the people who reply all deserve a special place in hell though.

MrsHamlet · 10/04/2021 16:47

I went to the garden centre and bought a plant. It will die. It's the third one of this sort that I've planted in the same place (a hebe, so not exactly tender).
Now it's gin time.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/04/2021 16:48

I don't know - hebe's are funny - they either like a spot or they don't. I had one in an old garden of mine that just took off and my Mum was really envious.

GuyFawkesDay · 10/04/2021 16:57

Hebes are funny. I could never get mine to flower. Just a mound of green. So I took them out.

Also hate all staff emails.....I've had to use it once when I lost a bag for of kit and resources and couldn't find it anywhere.

I've been spring cleaning my pit house and attempting to get things in order before I spend a day in school this week. Got loads to do for Yr11. Yippee.....

MrsHamlet · 10/04/2021 17:01

The others are all happy and getting huge. It may well be the location that's the problem. This is the last one I'm trying here. If it doesn't grow this time, I'll replace it with something else. Maybe a dandelion.

Appuskidu · 10/04/2021 17:03

Maybe a dandelion.Grin

What sort of hebe is it? I tend to think of them as liking shade, but some types seem to prefer the sun.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/04/2021 17:05

I'm googling how to cook pork loin steaks so they aren't dry - any tips? They're pre-marinated chinese style which sounded nice but I've never had much success with pork loin steaks being anything other than leathery. I have taken them out of the fridge and opened the pack to let them come to room temperature which I've just recently discovered you're meant to do with meat and have found it does actually make a difference - especially with steak.

I have beef cubes that are best before tomorrow that I'll use for a slow cooker stew overnight and I have lamb kebabs (actually ordered lamb steaks so bit of a naff substitution) but they have a couple of days left. I'm now stressed by use by dates shouting at me!

I basically did a well intentioned let's cook lots of fresh meals seeing as I'm off work order without predicting I was going to crash and sleep half of the week away so now the pressure is on not to waste food.

flumposie · 10/04/2021 17:08

@MrsHamlet I studied at St Martin's in Lancaster. Good Times. Just had my second pfizer jab, hoping I don't have many side effects as I was ok last time.

MrsHamlet · 10/04/2021 17:09

It's a variegated one. The planting plan was done for me when I moved in (new build with strange shaped "garden" which was just mud and then weeds) so it should be right - that said, two of my passiflora have died again (the one by the bins is thriving) so it's obviously not perfect.
I'm good at weeds. My creeping buttercup is a sight to behold.

MrsHamlet · 10/04/2021 17:11

Me too @flumposie :)
Degree at Lancaster, then PGCE at St Martin's. Moved away for 11 years when I was teaching out on the Cumbrian coast but then came back. It's a nice place to live.

flumposie · 10/04/2021 17:13

@MrsHamlet I really enjoyed living there. I have friends who settled there after we graduated.

Piggywaspushed · 10/04/2021 17:16

Aaargh! Reply alls!! So annoying! Email to all staff (necessary) about covid testing. One staff member replies all and tells us all about her various exemptions/ailments etc...

Even worse though is the entirely sinister use of blind copying at my place.

Piggywaspushed · 10/04/2021 17:17

I am also in the East/ Northern Home Counties/ south midlands/ Lord knows where really... wet and cold today.

PumpkinPie2016 · 10/04/2021 17:20

Ooh crumble-yummy! I love rhubarb crumble-DH hates rhubarb though Hmm

People replying all to whole staff emails drives me insane! I couldn't bloody care less who thinks xyz is a good idea. I get far too many emails as it is Angry

I'm in Greater Manchester area and had snow this morning but then lovely sunshine this afternoon-madness! Meant I did some planning this morning but then took DS to the park this afternoon Smile
