You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

The Masterchef thread has turned into a hotbed of Trotskyite Leninist Marxist Revolutionaries at the cancellation of the final!!

DH is watching golf.

I have literally resorted to watching ancient Dinner Date.

I mean it is literally BBC1 and BBC2 showing the same programme.

Bored.

GuyFawkesDay · 09/04/2021 20:39

I'm rewatching Harry potter for the eleventy billionth time....

noblegiraffe · 09/04/2021 20:40

Do you lot not have Netflix? Flowers

MrsHamlet · 09/04/2021 20:41

I'm knitting and catching up on Top Chef

TheHoneyBadger · 09/04/2021 20:41

Luckily I don't watch tv.

I've just said ds can stay out till 10.30pm - is that too late for a 14yo on his bike with friends in a village environment? He's never wanted to stay out late really so I've never had to think about it. He didn't ask, I volunteered that time and am now questioning myself.

Think I was already going to nightclubs by 14 but my misspent youth is not a bar to set things by.

Monkeytennis97 · 09/04/2021 20:41

I've come up to bed. DH is reliving his youth watching Battlestar Galactica. Night all!Smile

TheHoneyBadger · 09/04/2021 20:43

just googled and found that line of duty is a bbc drama - bbc is the one thing I can't watch legally watch catch up on so that's that buggered.

LolaSmiles · 09/04/2021 20:46

This evening I've been reading the Laura Bates book after someone on here suggested it recently with occasional mumsnetting. The TV went off just before the News at 6 because the news will eb the same as the coverage that had been on at tea time.

Piggywaspushed · 09/04/2021 20:46

There is never anything I want to watch on Netflix . I think we might ahve couple of episodes of Flight Attendant to watch on catch up.

Piggywaspushed · 09/04/2021 20:49

Oh, C4 seems to have returned to normal business. Gogglebox hopefully soon.

noblegiraffe · 09/04/2021 20:49

Good to see you in the Republic, Lola, how are you? :)

We've just finished watching 5 seasons of Superstore which was actually pretty funny.

Piggywaspushed · 09/04/2021 20:50

I am not the person to ask this honey. My 19 year old goes to bed at 10.30...

I have decided I am not very MN...

TheHoneyBadger · 09/04/2021 20:52

I have kept netflix (despite it slowing down a bit in terms of things I want to watch) and added Prime because though amazon may be the devil free next day delivery and a ton of tv and movies and music for alexa for less than the price of netflix is a serious bargain really. Just wish they'd pay some tax.

Having said that the alexa is still in it's box and for some reason I can't get round to setting it up.

noblegiraffe · 09/04/2021 20:54

I think piggy that's fine if you're not putting him to bed at that time.

10:30 outside would be pretty cold is my thought, Honey.

TheHoneyBadger · 09/04/2021 20:56

@Piggywaspushed

I am not the person to ask this honey. My 19 year old goes to bed at 10.30...

I have decided I am not very MN...

I was always the mean one making him go to bed at 7 when all his friends apparently were going at 9. I'm always surprised how late people let primary school children go to bed on here.

He still has to be off the games system by 8.30 and all screens by 9 on school nights but can stay up as late as he likes on Friday and Saturday nights so long as he gets out of bed on Monday morning. I really surprised myself by saying 10.30pm. Think I'm just conscious he's had no social life for the best part of a year and I'm glad he's getting out on his bike and being active again after so much sedentary living.

TheHoneyBadger · 09/04/2021 20:58

He never feels the cold. I was one of those mums being tutted at because my child was running round in a tshirt in winter and I wasn't wrestling him to the ground to put his coat on.

Piggywaspushed · 09/04/2021 20:58

More or less noble. DH would tell him to go if he didn't!!

MrsHamlet · 09/04/2021 21:10

I admire anyone who stays up past ten. I need my beauty sleep.

JanFebAnyMonth · 09/04/2021 21:31

I’m quite a royalist and felt very sad at the news and have been fascinated to learn more of his life, but am still rather 😮 at the amount of coverage and priority Phillip’s death is getting. Even locally - our tiny town has already designated an official place to leave flowers and there’s to be a book of condolence opened tomorrow.

I mean, what’s it going to be like when Her Maj goes??

noblegiraffe · 09/04/2021 21:34

I'm basking in your admiration then, MrsH - I'm often still up past 1am!

I refrain from posting on here at that time of night so that I don't look weird. I think @DreamingofBrie is another night owl!

MsAwesomeDragon · 09/04/2021 21:37

I need my sleep tooMrsH. Dd2 goes to bed at 9pm on a school night (slightly later at weekends and holidays), and I'm often heading straight to my own bed once I've done her story and sleep meditation (she's not a good sleeper, and finds it difficult to sleep unless we've had a wind down time together). We always had a really good bedtime routine and sleep schedule for dd1, but for the past 2-3 years it's been completely to pot. Honey sounds like she shares dd1's sleep schedule, where is minimal/disrupted sleep for weeks then sleeping a LOT for a couple of weeks.

I'm very jealous of people getting puppies. I think we're getting one this year, we've been contacting breeders and think we might be getting one at about May half term Grin. Dd1 will be in charge of small puppy during the day until the summer holidays when I will take over as main caregiver/trainer. The whole family are very excited that this is finally happening (subject to health checks and home visits with the breeder)

MrsHamlet · 09/04/2021 21:37

Another reason for me to fangirl you, noble

I walked past the big church this afternoon and there was a sign directing people to the door to use to sign the condolence book.

GuyFawkesDay · 09/04/2021 21:43

Another night owl here too. 11:00 is weeknight bedtime for me.

Agree: very sad about Prince Philip but the wall to wall coverage feels more than a little mawkish.

Been on Geographical Association conference online so I'm afraid gogglebox and Harry potter is about my intellectual level tonight 😂

Piggywaspushed · 09/04/2021 21:43

When you grow up amongst sectarianism it's quite hard to be a royalist.

Piggywaspushed · 09/04/2021 21:44

I have noticed it's always me and mother up at about 6am chatting shit.
