You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I am a bit worried about this woman from the IoE rattling on on BBC News about extensive portfolios of evidence, heavily moderated.

Does she care about our workload?

I don't know if anyone else here has done electronic marking and submission of NEAs but it's a blimmin nightmare.

She ahs also been allowed to say that it is not going to be fair, although ahs eventually said neither are exams.

MrsHamlet · 06/01/2021 17:26

Does anyone???

MrsHerculePoirot · 06/01/2021 17:27

@phlebasconsidered Flowers

I just taught my first lesson using desmo - did I already tell you this earlier? I was great, thank you so much @HercwasanEnemyofEducation and @noblegiraffe for getting me on to it. I'm going to train all my department up later this week!

year5teacher · 06/01/2021 17:33

I feel so upset.
I’m at work with 20 children, I can’t socially distance and there’s no rota. SLT all working remotely the entire time. I could cry. I’ve had it.

RandomGrammarPun · 06/01/2021 17:35

Phlebas Flowers

Noble - delayed Flowers for everything.

Everyone else - Flowers We're a bloody awesome bunch of people (wider education community).

Why are they are working remotely when you can't?
Appuskidu · 06/01/2021 17:42

SLT all working remotely the entire time

That’s dreadful-how can they justify that?!

How have they organised thing-do the SLT not have their own classes? Or are they teaching them from home but saying you can’t? Are all class teachers in?

Monkeytennis97 · 06/01/2021 17:42

@year5teacher SadThanksThanksWine so sorry. I would be going off with stress now tbh.

Piggywaspushed · 06/01/2021 17:44

Apparently Gav also said in parliament that 'all' subjects were covered by Oak.

Ermmmm... no....

Cantaloupeisland · 06/01/2021 17:49

Numbers in local schools are absolutely ridiculous. We need the media to pick up on this, schools are in no way closed!

That's so unfair!! I have my issues with SLT at times, but in this they've been very good. This week and next week the KW/V children are being supervised entirely by SLT. After that there will be a rota. I'm not sure how many kids are in, or who will be on the rota for supervising them.

Arghhh! I am guessing Gav has never actually logged onto Oak Academy.

I mean he’s clearly never actually set foot in a school ...

year5teacher · 06/01/2021 18:00

Thank you everyone. Flowers they are doing the home learning, so are busy, but it seems unfair that some of us get ALL the risk and others get none. And I’ve only just got home. Sad

SansaSnark · 06/01/2021 18:02

@EnemyOfEducationNo1

Wtf?
That is completely untrue.

At no point have they said it was incorrect- they just said the S44 no longer applied.

They are still advising their members to take industrial action if schools are unsafe.

HarrietDVane · 06/01/2021 18:03

@year5teacher Thanks I'm so sorry things are such a nightmare.

Are SLT doing home learning for everyone and non-SLT are in with KW every day? Or are you still doing remote stuff for your class in the evening?
noblegiraffe · 06/01/2021 18:06

Uhoh. New standards for remote learning including online lessons.

I don’t want live lessons for DD. Ffs.

noblegiraffe · 06/01/2021 18:09

Flowers to primary colleagues, wtf is going on there?

We got a fairly desperate sounding email from the primary school begging keyworkers to consider if it really was essential to send their kid in.

SAGE needs to step in.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 06/01/2021 18:10

@phlebasconsidered
Your school has treated you appallingly. I think you have been very brave and done the right thing.

SoFranCisco · 06/01/2021 18:11

Oh good god - as if I wasn’t cross enough already with all the parents who moaned about provision last time - I am even crosser now - my 9 year old has lots to do (which is fine) but it’s all over the place - teams, emails, SIMS - I can’t keep track! Plus they have said when doing live teams they should have a laptop and a phone - he doesn’t have a phone, he is 9?! Why would he need both anyway? (We use google classroom so am a Teams novice too!) My phone will be in school with me and his technophobe Dad doesn’t have a smart phone (or understand Teams so will be amazed if they actually manage to find the live lessons at the right time anyway 😂😂) I long for the halcyon days where he just had some Twinkl worksheets Wink

year5teacher · 06/01/2021 18:11

@Appuskidu no I’m not having to do home learning so it’s ok, I’m not being asked to do a crazy amount, just usual. It’s just crap that we can’t swap over at all, we were never asked either, just told.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 06/01/2021 18:16

Flowers Primary. Why are so many leadership teams so bad?

noble That guidance is awful. I don't think the students benefit from all online. We're discussing as a "5 lesson a day live" school how to tone this down a bit because the screen time is too much.

MrsHamlet · 06/01/2021 18:18

Aldi has some phone holder selfie stick jobbies for £9.99 if anyone's looking for a visualiser type thing.
They also have a lot of really unhealthy food. Sigh.

SansaSnark · 06/01/2021 18:18

Was everything Williamson said today fiction?

He was talking about laptops and 4G routers being delivered- we had, I think
