You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

How does this work for KS1 then as the laptop allocation was only for Y3 upwards!? Do they all need to be in?!

SoFranCisco · 06/01/2021 18:21

(Should add I am not cross with his school obviously, they are doing an amazing job - just that we have all been put in a position where we are all scared of not providing enough, but then for working parents it’s hugely daunting trying make sense of it all and fit it all in...and I work in education so if I am struggling to get it sorted I dread to think how it feels to many!)

Appuskidu · 06/01/2021 18:22
@Appuskidu no I’m not having to do home learning so it’s ok, I’m not being asked to do a crazy amount, just usual. It’s just crap that we can’t swap over at all, we were never asked either, just told.
That is really rubbish of your SLT-how can they justify that to themselves Angry

Is anyone else having a nightmare with google classroom? Specifically with scheduling stuff ahead and it then not rolling out when it should.

On pc - schedule for 8. Doesn't go out.
On pc - ok, schedule for half 8. Doesn't go out.
On ipad - grrr, schedule for 9. Doesn't go.
Had to over ride the schedule function and assign it instead at 9.15.
When I went back to the pc it showed that it had gone out...an hour earlier at '8.15'.

So there's something weird going on with it thinking what the time is.

When I scheduled tomorrow's to go today at 4pm it sat there and didn't go. Then when I went in to see what was going on I was being told it needed to be scheduled for a time in the future. Which I had done.

It's REALLY annoying me that I can't set things up ahead of time to roll out properly as I'd be able to focus on teaching the children I actually had in front of me. Or giving feedback for all the work that had been turned in.

Piggywaspushed · 06/01/2021 18:23

Do you think all of the advice is based on what Gav wants for his year 11 DD?

Someone in MH (since they only listen to them and U4T) needs to raise loud concerns about screen time.

KathyHop · 06/01/2021 18:25

I had a really good day today =] Getting the hang of these online lessons!

Even had an online music lesson which was good fun!

Appuskidu · 06/01/2021 18:25

I can’t believe that schoolsweek/Gav Twitter comments isn’t everywhere?!

We have classes of up to 20 supervised by HLTA s (which I am one) Teachers all working remotely. There’s usually loads of time to fill when the children have all finished the set work and have nothing to do. It’s hard work.

Is your Google account/classroom/something else set at EST? I keep getting invites to assembly and meetings at 4am but turns out it's actually 9am, it just shows in EST not GMT. So maybe your Google clock is an hour behind somehow or thinks you're in a different time zone?
RigaBalsam · 06/01/2021 18:46

Have any of your schools rolled out the testing to staff. Ours started today.

KatherineOfGaunt · 06/01/2021 18:47

First day with kids. Stressful doesn't even begin to cover it for me. Pretty much as normal except all wearing masks everywhere except classrooms. Two children sent home already with symptoms (I hasn't been anywhere near them though, thank goodness).

CallmeAngelina · 06/01/2021 18:49

I had a similar issue with Google Classroom today. Scheduled stuff to go live at 9, but it didn't, and I was just about to over-ride it, when it all went out at once and duplicated it all. I didn't notice straightaway, and kids began opening both folders and some submitting from one and some the other, so at that point I couldn't delete one of them!

I'm going to set it manually at 8.30 tomorrow morning, I think. Or maybe last thing tonight.

cantkeepawayforever · 06/01/2021 18:57

I wish to record here, just because I know I would have posted had the opposite happened, that I have had a completely constructive and very detailed response from my (Tory) MP about testing in schools as an alternative to isolation.

OK, he admits it has now been overtaken by events, but he has gone out of his way to find out some information and to say he will raise it with ministerial colleagues. I have been encouraged enough to reply with more detailed data.

I think it was struggling today. Things I had scheduled didn't go out on time, but only 5-10 mins later.
Piggywaspushed · 06/01/2021 19:01

Is this not a bit sinister this staff testing? Will they not use testing outcomes to prove we are low risk now?? (with apols to primary and SEN staff )

MrsHamlet · 06/01/2021 19:03

Teams was struggling today. I think it's probably overwhelmed again

MrsHamlet · 06/01/2021 19:04

I'm not going to be tested. I'm not going in to school anyway but something about it doesn't sit right.

Piggywaspushed · 06/01/2021 19:04

I love the idea of 'tearing up a union card'. Does anyone have a union card??

2kidsintow · 06/01/2021 19:06

@KatherineOfGaunt That was my first thought. But I couldn't find anyway of finding out what time google thought it was. Further investigation can be taken tomorrow - I wasn't supposed to be in school but my partner teacher is now isolating awaiting a test result so I'm back in.

Our tiny, new pcs didn't like auto changing to the time when the clocks changed back so it's possible it thinks it's an hour ahead, but it also doesn't seem to happen to my partner teacher when she schedules work in the same way.

Do any primary school folks know anything about the social distancing aspect of school now. As in year one full class but not being split into two, but 3 adults in room with kids teacher in empty classroom doing online stuff. Just feels less safe as before was 2 adults to 28 not 4 in a room n all the kids too.
