You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

But he might say that, in order to "go one better than Nicola".

@mumsneedwine did you meet your HT today? How was it? X

RandomGrammarPun · 04/01/2021 17:42

Maybe secondary schools could be used as hubs for delivering the vaccine more quickly? Sports Halls etc are bigger than doctors' surgeries.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 04/01/2021 17:45

I'm sending my 3yo in to nursery because I can't work otherwise 😭 The guilt is unreal.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

I love this!
Panickingpavlova · 04/01/2021 17:48

I must admit if dd was 3 or 4 it would be clamoring for school to remain open.
It would have pushed me to every limit.
I feel extremely Lucky that my dc can entertain themselves. I'll have to work with dd 8 of course but that's nothing compared to watching and managing a spirited toddler.

Panickingpavlova · 04/01/2021 17:50

Good idea re secondary school hubs.
It's clear every effort needs to go to the jab roll out.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 04/01/2021 17:50

He doesn't have a choice on education now because of all the actions against the gov line, they have lost total control over it and apart from special circs who would send dc back in now!

Yes very well done all ⭐️ outstanding efforts from everyone

Yep me too.

Grin yeah if the students were describing that graph they'd definitely say the last bit was a straight line...

I would imagine there are also community centres and church halls that could be utilised.
PumpkinPie2016 · 04/01/2021 17:54

I think it will be schools going remote apart from vulnerable/KW children. Not really sure what else can be added in tier 4 areas as all non-essential retail/gyms/pools/hairdressers etc are closed.

Wfh if you can is already the case but maybe that will be emphasised more. That said, I can't see a return to the full furlough scheme so many will still have to travel to work.

RigaBalsam · 04/01/2021 17:55

Anyone see Betty Boothroyd on sky she was brilliant. Newsreader couldn't get a word in.

RandomGrammarPun · 04/01/2021 17:56

Furlough has already been extending by a few months though I think still at the 80% rate, not 100%.

She was fanbloodytastic!
MrsHamlet · 04/01/2021 17:58

I went into town this afternoon for my flu jab and bumped into a year 12.
"MrsH", she said, "what are you doing here?" (They know I don't live here)
"I've popped out of school for my flu jab", quoth I.
At which point her mother said "they made you come to school to teach online? How silly."

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 04/01/2021 17:58

So, assuming tonight's announcement says schools are to close, what has actually changed since the bold Gavin's announcement that they would (mostly) be open? Is he going to admit to being wrong?

mumsneedwine · 04/01/2021 18:00

@MrsHerculePoirot I've been offered my dream job. Bastard !!!! He's giving me a week to think about it. I'm going to sleep on it this week. One day at a time through this mess. But I shed a few tears today from lovely staff. Thanks for thinking of me 😊

MrsHamlet · 04/01/2021 18:01

Oooh mums - that's exciting and annoying!

RandomGrammarPun · 04/01/2021 18:02

That's so lovely, mumsneed... But very frustrating if you don't know what to do.

KatherineOfGaunt · 04/01/2021 18:02

@hercwasanEnemyofEducation
@NeurotreeWenceslas

And me, DS going in tomorrow for the first time this year.

MrsHamlet · 04/01/2021 18:04

I'm on the scrounge... does anyone teach language and gender or language and representation?
I've got theory about the gendered representation of women coming out of my ears but nothing on men. All bright ideas welcome!!

starrynight19 · 04/01/2021 18:07

I think now with all the talk of school closures our head will be glad we did the section 44. At least today has been practical organising all the keyworker / vulnerable children and we are all set ready to go online from tomorrow.

Monkeytennis97 · 04/01/2021 18:07

@mumsneedwine that's amazing!!
