You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@SaltyAF

Better than one of ours who looked the AHT and down and said "come with you? I don't fucking think so"

We have quite a number who do this as a matter of course.

To be honest, I agreed with him. You know when the door opens and it's the really useless person you know will do nothing... we have a few of those. I'm often called on to be a witness in investigation meetings with kids, and there are some SLT I want to be able to pass notes to which say "bollocks.. ask this"
Interesting article about what may be coming in terms of restrictions and what may be beefed up - I must actually start putting my filter paper in my mask pocket!

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55524764
I made all of my masks, and they're two layers of cotton. I'm going to have to stuff a wad of kitchen roll between my face and the mask!

StanfordPines · 03/01/2021 21:21

They BBC article also referred to the one hour of exercise rule, which one never a rule.

RigaBalsam · 03/01/2021 21:27

It's similar to Prestons article.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 03/01/2021 21:29

I think it started off meaning to be a rule, and then they backed right off it in the first couple of days. About the time they decided the police weren’t actually supposed to enforce the essential journeys thing by checking why people were travelling.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 03/01/2021 21:29

I've made lots of new masks over the holidays, all 2 layer cotton. Not changing that- it's hard enough to climb 4 flights of stairs with 2 stone of backpack in 2 layers anyway.

I've enjoyed reporting people too. I did suggest on one report that mods need to be on this over the next couple of days. It'll get worse.. although feels OK today. Lots of eejits rather than true crazies. Some of the stuff is sociopathic some days. DIE FOR MY CHILD'S ABILITY TO DO COLUMN MULTIPLICATION.

MrsHerculePoirot · 03/01/2021 21:29

@MillieEpple in my NEU call yesterday they made it very clear that you can refuse to attend work if you feel work is a risk to others and not just to you. They example they gave was that if you worked on a building site and felt it was dangerous to the public (but not you) that you should not attend the work place until it has been addressed. I would also swap unions right now.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 03/01/2021 21:30

Did I say earlier that a guy in my parent's village (t3) was fined a grand for going to get petrol from his nearest petrol station, which happened to be in t4. Non essential apparently. I'd be contesting that.

HarrietDVane · 03/01/2021 21:30

@MrsHerculePoirot
I'm primary. HT has been scathing about masks being unnecessary up to now and 'certainly didn't expect to see staff wearing them' - hopefully will change their tune now in the face of a possible s44 problem!

JanuaryChill · 03/01/2021 21:31

Which union @MillieEpple , not UNISON I presume?

Piggy no I'll be the only one checking, as I want to be as safe as possible!

Appuskidu I think there's still a lot of confusion over

 • whether you have to have all three symptoms
 • whether it counts if it's mild or short-lived
 • whether it's alteration to or just loss of smell/taste.

A pity no one's talking about ensuring people receive their normal wage to self isolate....

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/01/2021 21:32

I made all of my own masks, and most are 3 layers. Some are 4 layers, because the material was slightly thinner, so extra layers seemed sensible (and it meant I could do more folding and less cutting off the fabric)

JanuaryChill · 03/01/2021 21:34

Yes @StanfordPines I noticed that. I thought it was never intended as a rule (and was certainly not in the legislation) but Gove misspoke in one interview v early on?

NeurotreeWenceslas · 03/01/2021 21:35

Are unis online this term? Shit will hit our fan if any of them are returning.

MillieEpple · 03/01/2021 21:37

@JanuaryChill its GMB

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/01/2021 21:40

I don't know if dd1's uni is officially online this term, but she's staying here. She doesn't like it, but it's better for her mental health, and the physical health of the surrounding community. She'd like to go back, because there's nobody getting in her face there about doctors appointments and taking tablets. Nobody there keeps going on about speaking to a therapist either. 🤷

MrsHerculePoirot · 03/01/2021 21:45

@StanfordPines. NEU on joining now that you asked me for about a thread or two ago 🤣🤣🤣

Monkeytennis97 · 03/01/2021 21:46

@NeurotreeWenceslas

NAS (autistic society) say that parents or carers of autistic children/ adults can be pushed up the vax priority list. I think it's still only group 6, not sure though.
Really? Didn't know that....
JanuaryChill · 03/01/2021 21:46

I was wondering how she's doing mrsAD!

The couple of students I know have been given dates in late Jan as possible return dates, although have also heard of students who returned around 27th to, or even stayed in their, rented houses in order to avoid being stuck at home with the fam.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/01/2021 21:49

I hadn't thought of the impact on unions and union relationships of people jumping ship. Another meeting it would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall at.

Suddenly anxious. Been good to go and feeling prepared then anxiety. My HOD sent a text saying online meeting at 9am. I don't start work at 9am, my plan is to get up shake ds awake and get him moving and showered and breakfast in his belly and out the door then jump in the shower myself and then go to the shop to pick up bits for his lunch as the cupboards are bare and go from there to school.

9am meeting does not fit and it's thrown me bizarrely and I have that pit in my stomach sunday night feeling again Confused

I need to turn in or I'll be a grumpy pumpkin.

Sending best wishes to all tomorrow ThanksGin

MrsHamlet · 03/01/2021 21:58

A 9am meeting when you're not employed at 9am? Brilliant.
My HoD will waltz in at 8.59 as per. He doesn't have a form and for some reason never gets pulled up for not being in at 8.30 as we're meant to.

Wow coming in at 9 would be a luxury.
JanuaryChill · 03/01/2021 22:02

I understand that kind of thing honey, you have yr plan for a stressful situation and it feels safe(ish) and is within what you as an individual can cope with. Then something relatively minor crops up, outside yr control though, and it all feels like it's crumbling.....

My bet about lockdown today has not won me anything, should I put money on an announcement tomorrow?

Thoughts with all primary and anyone else going into crowded situations tomorrow.

Jinglingmod · 03/01/2021 22:03

I could end up qualifying three times for group 6:

Spouse of ECV
Parent of autistic child
Teacher
