You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Local cases have doubled in a week - according to the Zoe app - and that's obviously when schools were shut Shock.

Seriously considering keeping DD off (primary) school for the near future. Had a good chat with DH about it before; he thinks I'm overreacting 'a bit' but is happy to support me. It's hard to explain but I have a real gut instinct about this. I have been ahead of the curve the whole way through this covid shit and can't justify playing the numbers game with my own child - it's her I'm worried about, not us.

That's going to be an interesting conversation with her HT.

mumsneedwine · 01/01/2021 17:54

As a science teacher I can't do this for most classes. As they are not in labs, but in their pod classrooms. So v little science is taught in a lab (none for year 7 &8). And the answer would be no anyway. I am not medically trained. Or insured.

Panickingpavlova · 01/01/2021 17:55

Interview with nurse going around, her ward is full of children with covid.

Why don't we hear more from medics?

BTW... Latest question on corona board... Would teachers live in school, to prevent the spread of covid 😂😂😂😂😂😂

mumsneedwine · 01/01/2021 17:56

@SantaAssociationRepresentitve and no tests at our school. Delivery 'expected' between Monday and Friday. Sometime. But no one knows when.

MrsHamlet · 01/01/2021 17:56

I've got a better idea: I could teach from home!

SaltyAF · 01/01/2021 17:57

@Hercwasonasnowball

Salty I currently don't wear aids. I used to but found they just amplified everything and didn't make filtering out voices any easier. I probably should go back to my specialist and see if there is any better tech now as this was a few years ago.
Yes they definitely have different settings for speech in noise etc. It dampens down those frequencies. Imperfect but might be useful now. Also very tiny dome fittings like ear buds.

I’ll admit to planning how I would live in the school building (best room for sleeping, Hall big enough for exercise, kitchens well stocked with tinned and frozen food) in the event of a Zombie Invasion but no...no, I really wouldn’t be moving in for this.

SaltyAF · 01/01/2021 17:58

(NHS ones are every bit as good).

It’s a crazy idea, but it might just work!
starrynight19 · 01/01/2021 17:59

Just got an email from dd2 head they are going ahead with full online learning from next week. They haven’t revived any tests but are asking for volunteers for now.
I am supporting my friend who lost her dad to covid just before Xmas and also talking to colleagues about how we are back in as normal next week. It all just feels so surreal.
I am actually glad all my dc are secondary / uni age and they are off. That poor child who died today Sad

Panickingpavlova · 01/01/2021 17:59

There is no way any staff should go near swabbing of dc at all. It's an invasive procedure and a medic has told me she would not be comfortable doing it, so many legalities cast aside and children can hurt themselves and each other.

How is that even meant to prevent the spread of Covid? We'd all be mixing more with each other in the evenings, so if one staff member was ill, we'd all be more likely to catch it and the school would shut?

I mean, obviously it's a ridiculous suggestion regardless, but...

MrsHamlet · 01/01/2021 18:00

I have emergency knickers and tights in my filing cabinet. And a toothbrush. After a spate of very bad weather, I thought I needed an emergency set up in case I needed to stay over with a local colleague. I would be happy to borrow something to sleep in, and rewear today's clothes... but borrowing knickers seemed a step too far 😂

MrsHamlet · 01/01/2021 18:02

Imagine if we all slept over in the Staffroom - we'd be hammered, fat and dancing on the copier within about an hour. Social distancing be buggered.

Evvyjb · 01/01/2021 18:04

Having seen a number of xmas parties, nothing would surprise me...

I mean, I am hammered and fat. I'm too pissed off to dance on the photocopier though.
JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 18:05

🤣

oddsbodkins · 01/01/2021 18:06

First U Turn of 2021?

twitter.com/PippaCrerar/status/1345062334218297346

Hearing that DfE is about to announce that all London primary schools will now keep their gates shut until Jan 18 at least. It was, frankly, ridiculous that neighbouring boroughs were expected to have different policies despite in some cases having higher Covid rates.

JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 18:06

I see some of you are having fun times on threads which may or may not contain the word muzzles (haven't RTFT!)...

JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 18:09

@oddsbodkins shall we open a sweepstake on how many U turns there'll be in the next two weeks? Week? Before Monday morning??

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 01/01/2021 18:10

I quite like the idea of getting hammered but not sure if I should dance on the photocopier but I might be able to jump up and down on our staff room chairs which are very solid and robust. Could I also run up and down the corridors shrieking like a banshee?

Sleepover thread is deleted! Shame i was quite enjoying it

MrsHamlet · 01/01/2021 18:13

Shrieking is a must.
I was quite enjoying that thread 😂😂
