You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Thank you, JanuaryChill and noblegiraffe.

Iamnotthe1 · 02/01/2021 20:22

This has made me crave some nice sugary things but I've not got the stuff for baking in the house. I may have to order some goodies on UberEats.

RigaBalsam · 02/01/2021 20:24

My OH school are thinking about them letting Teams from home from Tuesday. Not fair.Grin

KatherineOfGaunt · 02/01/2021 20:25

I'm super-impressed at your angry bake, @MrsHamlet. My only baking tends to be a slightly wonky sponge that I add jam and buttercream to, if DH is very lucky.

phlebasconsidered · 02/01/2021 20:28

I wish i could share what my trust just sent me. We are basically last . Here's a sentence- it might get me into trouble but ffs! How is this right! I have changed the wording slightly to protect myself.

Our priority as is to keep all of our schools open for all of our children for as long as possible. When it is no longer possible to do this because we do not have enough staff healthy and available to run a school safely, then we will close some or all of that school.

So basically - get ill and then we will close.

phlebasconsidered · 02/01/2021 20:28

I have forwarded the email to my unio .

JanuaryChill · 02/01/2021 20:29

Oh phleb! That is awful!!!

Cracklin' Rosie???? 🤷🏻‍♀️

year5teacher · 02/01/2021 20:30

@hedgehogger1 Ours has been moved online, which is nice. Better to sit on Zoom training on my nice sofa than alone in my freezing cold classroom - unless I want to turn on the one heater which sounds and smells like it's going to imminently explode...

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 20:31

Your place is appalling phleb Angry

Nice to see the diets have been abandoned on day two!

Welcome new posters Smile

KatherineOfGaunt · 02/01/2021 20:31

That's awful, @phlebasconsidered. They can't have read it aloud and thought about it properly or am I being too generous? .

Saucery · 02/01/2021 20:31

Oh, phlebas that is just appalling. This should not be Last Man Standing, it’s not a war.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 02/01/2021 20:32

@AFallingStar

I'm primary, tier 4, cases very high in a neighboring area (800+) (I know some of my class live there) and where my school is they're rising rapidly. I'm in the NEU and going to the Zoom tomorrow.

Reading the NEU letter (and using my common sense) it seems I'm ok going in on Monday (Inset, in separate classrooms on teams, with just 2 or 3 adults per classroom) but after that I don't know what to do.

Presumably if I decide to send that NEU letter, I could wait till Monday to send it/finally decide? My year group partner is equally undecided, I haven't spoken to our rep yet.

I don't think schools should be open but I don't want to make my colleagues or pupils lives more difficult!

This is me completely. Am totally stuck on what to do.

Part of me thinks that my Head wants us to all send in the letter so her job is easier. I get the impression that lots of support staff are going for the section 44 thing, but haven't seen numbers yet.

Have got inset on Monday, and I've said I'll go in for that, but otherwise not sure. Head said that the LA is taking advice from PHE - considering our RA is hot because of community transmission in normal times, I'm not sure how it's going to pan out.

I can see me driving around homes dropping off packs on Monday afternoon to be honest. And that's what I'll do if necessary.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 02/01/2021 20:34

I mean, really... this is from the FT.

Message from the Head: "Our school WILL be open as normal on Monday" Hmm

We're tier 4 (not London).

What an absolute, irresponsible arse.

I hope that he has consulted with legal professionals because if the Government is in violation of Health and Safety legislation and this trust is taking this stance, it may open them up as liable.

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 02/01/2021 20:36

@phlebasconsidered you need a new school. Your trust is run by twats

That is really awful.

I do at least feel like my head cares about the safety of staff!

Nice one, @JanuaryChill. Someone has to keep the riff-raff out as we saw last night! waves at U4T viewers

SansaSnark · 02/01/2021 20:47

This might be outing, but our NEU rep has decided to send the letter as a collective action, and has asked members to opt out individually.

They have edited the letter slightly to reflect the joint actions and to show appreciation for what our SLT have done to keep us safe.

It might be worth suggesting this to reps at other schools if you are nervous about taking individual action? I feel a lot better knowing it's part of a collective, rather than me sticking my neck out alone.
