You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Has anyone read the NEU email that we've just got?

I know there's a meeting to clarify tomorrow- but is the advice that we should all work from home except when we're in for keyworkers?

What's their position on teaching Y11 from the 11th?

Should we go in for inset days on Monday?

I'm really confused. I will email my rep too, but I doubt she'll reply this evening!

CallmeAngelina · 02/01/2021 17:27

Ditto, @SaltyAF.
I went out for a walk earlier and am still catching up. It's quite staggering how unpleasant some people are.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/01/2021 17:28

@SaltyAF

I'm going to have to step away from the main boards. There are one or two posters that I've taken an absolute personal loathing to. That they can dig their heels on and argue that teachers are idle and shouldn't be paid while Covid cases surge, simply demonstrates tonne that they are intellectually limited. The vitriol makes me feel ill.
I've made a NY resolution not to post on the Covid boards.
Beachhuts90 · 02/01/2021 17:29

Hi! It’s not all glue sticks and wet paper towels, is it? Can be quite fulfilling sometimes grin

Definitely!! I really love it. I'm at a lovely school too. I'd stay there forever except I am really excited to do my teacher training from September and they don't do salaried training where I am now.

Snap-I’m staying in here. Some people over there are total arses.

Do you reckon Gav has finished taking the decorations down yet?! Where the chuff is he?

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 02/01/2021 17:43

I haven't heard anyone in the time I've been listening to LBC this afternoon who wasn't in favour of schools closing, for a period.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 17:44

Pm interesting, Halfon wants us open but definitely everyone vaccinated now...

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 17:45

As in primary open and testing set up, but also vaccinations done over the next 2 + weeks for all teachers.

Saucery · 02/01/2021 17:46

I sny my lip up at any twats over on the CV board and skip merrily over here, or nice threads about Schitt’s Creek/books/dogs. I refuse to be drawn into an argument with trolls or people whose personal circumstances have made them not care about anyone else.

I trained in Brighton and Hove Smile

It was such a fall from grace coming from there to the East Midlands lol.

I went from a young, dynamic and academic profession to old men in grubby suits with egg in their beards grudgingly trying to get through to full pension or the Mecca of medical retirement. Genuinely not exaggerating lol.

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 02/01/2021 17:49

I've just done an online vaccination timeline thingy, no priority on it for teachers as per current rules, said it would be Dec21-Jan 22 for me (I'm over 50 so heaven help the rest of you Sad)

Halfon has been Us4Themmed.

They keep banging on about vaccines for teachers as they see it as the best way to get schools open no mitigation measures - shutting teachers up.

I don't think they've considered the rampant covid spread in schools that will continue without improving mitigation measures, and that it will leak back into the community.

Vaccinations over the next two weeks for teachers (done properly) isn't really a viable option, is it?
NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 17:55

Nope!

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 17:55

I think councils will start to overrule the govt

TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 17:56

All way too outing no doubt but I did my placements at Hove Park and Blatchington Mill which were lovely convenient walks from my my lodgings behind Hove Station. My pgce professor strangely took a shine to me despite my irreverence and I think that's why I got handy local placements where some colleagues were taking long journeys.

I actually keep in touch with him and have been chatting about current mayhem. He's 98% blind and lives alone in the outer reaches of lewes. He's an intellectual giant in his own areas of interest and post retirement has done lots of guest lectures and has a few obscure books published. Now he's stuck in. I am a bit phone phobic but I really should do a live call with him. I'd feel awful if I'd put it off to the point of too late

Achristmaspudsskidu · 02/01/2021 17:57

How many vaccines have we bought and now many teachers are there?

And support staff!?

It seems stupid to say that if it’s just impossible

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 17:58

I don't think they've considered the rampant covid spread in schools that will continue without improving mitigation measures, and that it will leak back into the community.

Which is precisely what the paediatric dr said very clearly before him, pointing out the wider school community eg kitchen staff etc. Not seeing more children in icu yet but still seeing the inflammatory disease.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 17:58

Sorry bold fail, reply to Nobel.

And kitchen staff, after school club staff, office staff etc
TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 17:59

I don't know why they're now talking about vaccines shortages as if it was a shock. We knew full well the demand would strip emerging supply a million fold worldwide.

Why is it always so patronising?

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 18:00

I think we have around 80 staff all in, not including kitchen and cleaning staff. Lots of part timers, then SALT etc.

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 18:00

Hmm, just looked at my notifications and I was mentioned about 4 times on a thread called 'What practical ways can schools be made safer' about 4 hours ago.

But it's been deleted already. What was that all about?

SansaSnark · 02/01/2021 18:02

I think we have enough to vaccinate all teachers, theoretically- although obviously we shouldn't get it before e.g. HCPs.

But given the way teachers are spread out around the country, and the time scales being suggested, getting all teachers the first dose in the next two weeks seems logistically unlikely.

Apparently, there's 506,400 full time teachers in the UK. Last week, 303,423 were vaccinated- so even vaccinating just full time teachers (never mind part time or support staff) with the first dose only would be a real stretch!
