You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

because he's incredibly private about his lessons. He does NOT share!!!

I would make it my life’s mission to make him. I’d hack his computer if necessary.

Unless they were just crap, or in brown font or something.

phlebasconsidered · 29/12/2020 23:08

@MsAwesomeReindeer omg it is! I used to just have a pile of shit/equipment in some tubs on each table but now, fml! It really has shown.up the disorganised kids though. Kid A: everything in pack, sheets too. Kid B: everything in pack but the actual things including tiny paper puppets, stolen blu tack models, 18 more books than necessary and loads of old tissues.

I did once create a worksheet where you transformed shapes and it ended up with a reindeer. My hod found it and took a copy, then used it next time he was doing transformations. His class were most bemused when they drew a reindeer in July Grin He hasn't realised it made a Christmas picture, and I hadn't realised anyone had borrowed it so didn't think to warn them about what picture it was, lol. He sheepishly came and asked me what pictures the other 3 worksheets made (a Christmas tree, Santa, and a Christmas stocking) and chose not to use them.

Unless they were just crap, or in brown font or something.

Brown font has killed me! I've oft wondered why brown board pens even exist.

If anyone here ever downloaded maths ppts from the TES about 8 years ago there was one person whose ppts were all yellow backgrounds with an insane amount of stuff on each slide. The content of the slides was generally decent but my gosh the yellow. If I saw their username I'd know to move on!

phlebasconsidered · 29/12/2020 23:13

Sometimes I can turn around and see a child brandishing a pack the size of their own body by lunchtime but in the morning it was empty. How? Tell me how? It's magic I tell you!

@GleamingBaubles I'm late to reply here but everyone else has said it better than I would have anyway! Well done on getting past the urge.

I put on 5 lbs towards the end of term, and have added another 7 onto that now, so need so sort myelf out. I managed to log my updated weigh on mfp but then proceeded to eat everything in sight, so I'll probably need to add evern more tomorrow.... have done a 'proper' plan and have a shop being delivered tomorrow to take us to the 8th. Going for a walk with a friend tomorrow (although probs can't get into my one pair of jeans....) and going to try and do a run again in next few days if it doesn't snow down here!

Glad the yoga helped gleaming. Legs up the wall helps me feel grounded and eases my anxiety.

Someone posted a screen shot of an article about schools staying closed. Do you have a link to it? Magic eye trick wasn't enough

there is a member of my department who STILL uses these whenever they have to make a lesson to share with the department... its a bit of a give away.... that and those tabs along the top with some bollocks on it about enterprise and shit.

I know those PowerPoints! How can anyone focus on the actual content?! So much noise.

Gleaming glad the urge has passed.

HarrietDVane · 29/12/2020 23:20

Grin Long ago there was a teacher at my school whose resources are still saved on the server. They are absolutely hideous. Lots of brown and neon yellow. The actual content isn’t bad but my God - the clashing, bilious colours!

MsAwesomeReindeer · 29/12/2020 23:21

herc I know exactly the PowerPoints you're talking about!! And yes, move on, don't touch those, there's too much going on and the yellow hurts my eyes. I have my favourite people who upload resources on tes, and often feel slightly guilty about using so much of their stuff without sharing any of my own then i use their stuff anyway because I don't want to make my own

I would make it my life’s mission to make him. I’d hack his computer if necessary.

They are definitely not crap, they're amazing!! And quite distinctive, so he would be able to tell if anyone borrowed them. Unfortunately, I don't have any parallel classes where his worksheets would be useful because he only ever seems to teach sets 1&2 I do share a class with him, but he teaches them the pure part of the A Level and I teach the applied. I definitely come out worst on any comparisons the kids make, even though their results are broadly in line in both sections.

Hercwasonasnowball · 29/12/2020 23:21

MrsHP Yes the "skills" are pointless too! And migraine inducing on the yellow background. They're a showcase of everything that was wrong with the ofsted tick box style approach towards "outstanding" lesson observations.

Night all.

Go on. Off to bed, the lot of you.

DecemberStar · 29/12/2020 23:22

Hercwasonasnowball · 29/12/2020 23:23

Did any of you ever use 'whiteboard maths' ppts? I found that on an old hard drive the other day. Every animation was accompanied with a noise, nevermind the retro graphics and word art.

DecemberStar · 29/12/2020 23:24

Oo are we on a camp, Smile? 😜 🏕 🔥

HarrietDVane · 29/12/2020 23:24

Good night, @SmileEachDay and lovely teaching colleagues. Let’s hope for sweet dreams rather than school based anxiety nightmares! Smile

Yes mum GrinBrew I have a camomile tea and off to bed shortly.

Love the lot of you. You are all, without exception, bloody ace Flowers

Legs up the wall, child pose, and half pigeon for a quickie 😁
MsAwesomeReindeer · 29/12/2020 23:26

Oh yes, my old hod bought whiteboard maths for us about 10 years ago (slightly less, I'd just come back from mat leave I think). He thought they were wonderful, the rest of us couldn't bear them because of all the distractions from the actual content. We got rid of them as soon as he left.

MsAwesomeReindeer · 29/12/2020 23:29

Ooh, I love a camp. Are you brown owl? Although, normally when I'm on camp I sit up far too late talking to the other leaders and telling Brownies to be quiet. I miss that a bit this year ⛺🔥
