Christmas staff room thread for any of us who are flying solo this Christmas. No expectations of jollity or despair - you feel how you feel and it ALL FINE.

Thanks, smile

KnowingMeKnowingYule · 24/12/2020 10:30

Thanks @SmileEachDay x

DecemberStar · 24/12/2020 11:22

Checking in, thanks Smile. Permission to not have to pretend it's fine being alone (in my case with two teens, who each have their own issues), has just made me feel lighter already!

DollyMixtureLulus · 24/12/2020 11:24

Hello. Have already sent congratulations on one wedding, two engagements and three babies. Expecting at least two more friends to get engaged tomorrow or in the very near future.

I wrapped my own presents for myself. They’re really good though, so there’s always that!

SmileEachDay · 24/12/2020 11:37

I can’t decide whether to:

A) Studiously ignore the fact it’s Christmas

Or

B) Embrace the fact it’s Christmas

I’m dropping my child off with his dad later today then will go get some nice food maybe.

It's difficult isn't it. Best to do whatever you think will make you feel best, but that's not always predictable!

NeurotreeWenceslas · 24/12/2020 13:35

Not alone but happy to keep you company if I'm allowed?

MrsChristmasHamlet · 24/12/2020 13:47

I've been invited to my goddaughters (aged 7 and 3) but it just doesn't feel right (not least because if I can't see my own mum, I don't want to spend the day with someone else's)
I've got plenty of real food and plenty of snacky food and I'll see how it feels in the morning.

CallmeAngelGabriel · 24/12/2020 14:17

I just did an emergency run to the large Tesco and there's loads of 'naice' picky bits left.

CallmeAngelGabriel · 24/12/2020 14:17

That was to @SmileEachDay.

DecemberStar · 24/12/2020 14:20

I've just Tesco'd and was amazed how quiet it was (it also worried me a bit iyswim)

SmileEachDay · 24/12/2020 15:01

Lush, Callme, thanks!

I know what you mean MrsH - better to be alone than feel all out of sorts at someone else’s.

So is anyone here completely alone tomorrow (if you want to say)?

I've done all the wrapping, but haven't washed up for about 24 hrs Confused

SmileEachDay · 24/12/2020 17:26

I am December

I have, however, just discovered Sainsbury’s Black Forest dessert, so I’m not sure I mind any more 🤣

That sounds delish! My younger sister is now on her own. I think she actually is quite happy about it though.

DecemberStar · 24/12/2020 19:10

There are some situations involving other people that are just too stressful.

I will have at least two hours on my own tomorrow while the kids go to their dad's. It used to be really hard when they went for longer (sometimes until the next day) and they were little, but these days it's fine.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 24/12/2020 19:19

I am. I love my godchildren and their mum dearly but I'm not going to intrude. I know they'd say I wasn't but it just wouldn't be right.
I have food and drink and my knitting - and I'll Skype the family.

SmileEachDay · 24/12/2020 19:40

Ooh Mrs..I’m an emergent knitter/crocheter.

One of my goals for this year is to make an item of clothing. What would you recommend as an achievable thing?

DecemberStar

My boy is at his dad’s until Boxing Day. It’s actually been ok in previous years because we’ve developed our own traditions.

I hope you’ll shout if you’re sad when you’re on your own tomorrow? Or if you’re not!!

Throwing my hand in. Alone tonight and to,or row. My children are with their dad. I have pork pie, pickle and a bottle of fizz. Merry Christmas!

SmileEachDay · 24/12/2020 19:54

Isthat

Excellent choices. My food is based around stuffing - which is the best bit of Christmas dinner, and that’s a hill I’m prepared to die on !

I made a cardigan once. It was a disaster... it was totally lopsided and unwearable. I stick to flat things now. I've been making a blanket on and off for 5 years - it's very slow going.
Crochet is much quicker - this scarf made up fairly quickly and the yarn is self patterning (Stylecraft Batik) so it was pleasing. Once my hands get the hang of it again, I can do it whilst watching tv.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 24/12/2020 19:58

@Isthatitnow you've reminded me that I have pickled onions. Hooray!!!

SmileEachDay · 24/12/2020 20:05

Self patterning yarn?? What is that?

OP posts:
MrsChristmasHamlet · 24/12/2020 20:34

It's magic! It's multicoloured so you start and just keep going and it magically makes a pattern
