Christmas staff room thread for any of us who are flying solo this Christmas. No expectations of jollity or despair - you feel how you feel and it ALL FINE.

Soap fest....who’s gonna kill Ian Beale? now watching Gavin and Stacey.

DecemberStar · 24/12/2020 21:07

Haven't watched 'Enders for decades really but am glad to hear someone might be going to kill Ian Beale....

DecemberStar · 24/12/2020 22:52

Now I'm in tears. So worried about DD.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 24/12/2020 23:03

Oh star 😢

Isthatitnow · 24/12/2020 23:06

Has something happened? Hope you’re OK. Here and listening if it helps x

DecemberStar · 24/12/2020 23:11

Thanks. No, only a reoccurrence of something which reminds me of her ongoing problems.

DS (13) still wanted to put something out "for Father Christmas", bless. DD not so bothered!

SquashedFlyBiscuitsForSanta · 24/12/2020 23:12

@MrsChristmasHamlet we invited a friend to us who we know is going to be on her own. She won't come, think she is worried about intruding. We would be happier if she was here. She's really good fun and DS loves her too. She really wouldn't be intruding - just saying.

Good luck for tomorrow everyone xx

Isthatitnow · 24/12/2020 23:17

Christmas is tough! Especially this year. I think we have to try not to be hard on ourselves

I’ll second this. We often had other people round for Christmas when we were younger and I think people always worry much more about feeling like they are intruding or feeling like a spare part than actually happens.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 25/12/2020 01:11

Thank you @SquashedFlyBiscuitsForSanta and @RafaIsTheKingOfClay
I know the girls especially would be delighted. I'll see how I feel in the morning - but I also know how upset my mum would be if I did that and didn't go to her. There is the small matter of 30 miles vs 200 though....

SmileEachDay · 25/12/2020 06:17

Hope you’re ok star

Morning all. I had planned to sleep in. Typically I’ve woken up super early and can’t get back to sleep 🙄

Happy Christmas 🎄 . Please can I join you all as I'm flying solo (well unless you count the dogs). First Christmas since bereavement.

SmileEachDay · 25/12/2020 10:09

Oh User that’s really hard. What are you up to today?

OP posts:
DecemberStar · 25/12/2020 10:13

Happy Christmas all!

Welcome @User1055, absolutely you are welcome here. It must be so very very hard today. Have a SD, MN, stranger-in-a-good-way hug. 🤗

Thanks smile, am mainly OK, had a brief moment earlier when I realised how tiny a choice of anything approaching a present I had to show on our church Christmas Zoom service in an hour.

But thanks to R4, who had programmes on which were exactly what I would have chosen to listen to, when I woke up early this morning!

User1055 · 25/12/2020 10:26

Thank you. I really can't make up my mind whether I need to celebrate Christmas in my own way or just pretend its just like any other day. I have done a load of washing and hung it up, cleaned the kitchen, etc. and am about to take the dogs for a walk. But I have had a special breakfast and have a (rather sad looking) M&S Christmas dinner for one ready meal sitting in the fridge. I hope there's some good films this afternoon, or a long afternoon nap beckons. I did move my school work from the dining table last night, so I'm not tempted to do some planning today!

SmileEachDay · 25/12/2020 10:36

I think you do whatever you want.

I had some Black Forest dessert for breakfast and am watching Come Dine with Me 😂😂

You’ll form your own way of Christmasing at some point. It doesn’t have to be today 🤷🏻‍♀️

Happy Christmas! I am watching The Bill and eating truffles. The Prosecco is chilling....

SmileEachDay · 25/12/2020 13:00

Lovely Isthat!

I’m wondering if it’s time for gin yet....

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 25/12/2020 13:11

I am watching the Bill and drinking Prosecco here.

Welcome user. Just do whatever feels right today.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 25/12/2020 13:33

I'm drinking clementine gin and I've just put the meat in the oven. That'll be ages so I've put some pigs in blankets in too!

SmileEachDay · 25/12/2020 13:49

God I love clementine gin.

I’ve just spent ages choosing some self pattered yarn Hamlet

MrsChristmasHamlet · 25/12/2020 14:10

Ooh exciting. What are you going to make?

SmileEachDay · 25/12/2020 14:15

Something - as you said yesterday - flat.

A scarf? Or a blanket? I’d love to make a blanket but I think it would take one hundred years.

So impressed with people who knit and crochet. Learning too crochet was my lockdown goal. I never got past the basic chain! I have started German on Duolingo recently so that will hopefully get me through what is to come...

Isthatitnow · 25/12/2020 14:25

And it is always time for gin!
