You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I hadn't seen that figure!! That's completely shocking!!! They really need to do something to make schools safer!!!

WAGOLL
Say what??
Oh... you mean a model answer.

Hercwasonasnowball · 22/12/2020 21:40

I do/we do/you do for example. What, you mean show them, do it with them then let them have a crack on their own? Is...is that not what we’ve been doing already?

This!!!!!

Makes my blood boil when SLT present it like a new fangled idea. The same people don't like whole class feedback because it's not personalised enough (yet think ticking a pre populated form they wrote before any student sat the assessment is more personalised).

2500 per 100k is madness. Is it true?

Hercwasonasnowball · 22/12/2020 21:41

From that article "it remains unclear how much the virus is spreading in schools". Only to people living under a rock since September.

Jinglingmod · 22/12/2020 21:41

See the Times article above. Still trying to find a source.

Yeah, it's definitely kids hanging around at the park. (Maybe 10 of them in my village of 4000 people Hmm).

GleamingBaubles · 22/12/2020 21:44

Arrrrgggghhhh FFS what absolutely bollocks bollocks!

TheHoneyBadger · 22/12/2020 21:44

Oh nettle yarn? That's a whole new level Grin

I'm so relieved it's over for a while you know? I'm relieved for the kids as well. Been a bit of a nightmare especially with and for the year 8s. They really did pull the short straw with their zone and they seem to be the least suited to staying in one place all day and they don't seem to have coped well with the long break out of school. I think they're going to be a tough year group all the way through to year 11 now. Obviously not all but markedly high proportions of each class are below normal standards in terms of work and behaviour and maturity.

Think we're going to have our hands full for the next few years. I understand why everyone is like 'exam years must be in' but it's only kicking the can down the road for other year groups itms? There's a lot of learning and development in ks3 that readies them for exam years. Think it's going to be interesting the next few years.

Hercwasonasnowball · 22/12/2020 21:44

Thanks jingling, cross posted with the article. Assuming it's from the ONS.

I stick with We All Now Know.

It’s seen me through 23 years of teaching, no intention of repackaging that one.

Thank you Brie!

Jinglingmod · 22/12/2020 21:46

Haha. Yeah, I could have done that rather than pissing about with a screen shot Grin

Hercwasonasnowball · 22/12/2020 21:46

honey completely agree re lower years and particularly year 8.

My school is very "throw every intervention at year 11" whereas if they invested in key stage 3, in a couple of years they'd have a bloody good cohort of students.

TheHoneyBadger · 22/12/2020 21:47

Oh it doesn't work unfortunately

DollyMixtureLulus · 22/12/2020 21:47

It's WALT and WILF for me. Why were they owls? Then we were not allowed owls.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 22/12/2020 21:48

Oh I've got a teacher in my team in her 4th year who likes to shout new ideas at me as if she's educating me. I literally roll my eyes and leave.

TheHoneyBadger · 22/12/2020 21:50

Absolutely hercs. It drives me a bit mad tbh. KS3 is really under valued and yet it's the total underpinning of exam years. It's been shrunk by a year and yet still doesn't get valued and focused on.

Can anyone copy and paste the text from the Times article - I can't access it.

Hercwasonasnowball · 22/12/2020 21:50

rule I have one like that who I thought was 5-6 years in, turns out she finished her NQT year in July. When she started telling me how making a poster was a great learning activity for maths I stopped listening to anything else she said.

RigaBalsam · 22/12/2020 21:51

Oh yesh! It's all that outside transmission as they walk to school not the packed stuffy class rooms. That's it. Clearly!

TheHoneyBadger · 22/12/2020 21:52

Love that that yesh made you sound pissed when read by my inner voice Grin

CallmeAngelGabriel · 22/12/2020 21:52

@TheHoneyBadger, I have a friend emailing it over to me. Will see if I can...
