You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I see a german virologist saying gov cant calculate 70% more contagious...

Imo its just
Vit d dropping.
Better PT in london
Xmas nativity/singing and audiences in t2

There has been no break for the schools so it has just kept growing
People taking unmasked kids in busy shops

If r must be under 1
But schools 0.5 that left only 0.5 for all the above and gyms and pubs etc.
Also someone said grammar area so even more secondary transport

The big events were not allowed in t2 until very recently

So, if MN massive REALLY want their kids back in schol, they NEED TO CONTROL THEIR TEENAGERS and STOP GOING TO THE EFFING PLAYGROUND.

So many kids in my area out together today in the pissing down rain, in tier 4.

SaltyAF · 21/12/2020 17:31

And of course re the DFE bonus, they'll be able to postpone their annual leave and take it at a convenient time.

RigaBalsam · 21/12/2020 17:36

@Piggyinblankets

Oh , listen to Boris

'we want , if we possibly can. to get all schools back... but... keep things under constant review'

Lots of 'if you possibly can'

We aren't going back, are we...?

That narrative has somewhat changed.
DecemberStar · 21/12/2020 17:40

It really has.

I’m sceptical of claims the new UK variant is more transmissible.

An alternative theory is the virus is now simply more prevalent in children, who’ve been attending school with insufficient precautionary measures in place. Of course it will explode under those conditions.

DollyMixtureLulus · 21/12/2020 17:52

It's like we've gone all the way back to March again.

Piggyinblankets · 21/12/2020 17:53

Zoe Hyde's tweet and some who reply to her basically makes it clear it was stupid to keep school open in the earlier lockdown and stupid to plan to do so later. They ahve made children 'available' to a mutating virus.

DecemberStar · 21/12/2020 17:54

Interesting piggy. So the whole weirdness of having everything (at times/virtually) closed but schools is going to be thrown into sharp relief it seems...

Piggyinblankets · 21/12/2020 17:55

Yes, it seems that way. If enough scientist are listened to.

Ferguson coming back will change things.

DecemberStar · 21/12/2020 17:59

Oh my goodness have just thought of international perspective on this -

You know how we've been saying since ?May 'OK let's reopen schools, but why, oh why, can't we have x, y and z like in {insert name of any other developed country}'?

Now look what's possibly happened!!!

France insists all drivers MUST have negative Covid test
mol.im/a/9073729

Scathing from the Daily Mail!

SmileEachDay · 21/12/2020 18:02

Boris wanted an isolationist foreign policy....

Careful what you wish for, eh?

Achristmaspudsskidu · 21/12/2020 18:25

DS’s school has sent an email saying all lessons for all year groups (except KW/vulnerable) are online from 4th. Then, from the 11th, the exam years will be in school (everyone else online) and from the 18th they will start to bring other year groups back.

They’ve also recommended that all pupils/staff get tested at a local testing site (we are in a T4 area which was offering community testing) before going back. No mention of setting up testing on school which I’m v pleased about. They also suggest they may need to go online the week after Feb half term of local rates are still high.

GleamingBaubles · 21/12/2020 18:28

I know I've already asked upthread , but does anyone think I've wrecked my test swap by it touching my uvula when I was trying to swab my tonsils

Hercwasonasnowball · 21/12/2020 18:29

@GleamingBaubles it should be OK.

I initially read that as vulva and wondered WTF you were doing with the swab Blush

flumposie · 21/12/2020 18:30

Narrative is definitely changing. I noticed that with Boris this evening.
Am switching off for a bit by watching A Christmas Carol online from the old vic.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 21/12/2020 18:33

I'm so glad it wasn't just me who read "vulva" Herc

GleamingBaubles · 21/12/2020 18:45
Grin
DecemberStar · 21/12/2020 18:46

No they say don't touch anything else in yr mouth but I and others have got definitive results back when we've done this (pretty hard not to actually!)

DecemberStar · 21/12/2020 18:47

Remind us @Achristmaspudsskidu is he primary or secondary? Am surprised they're looking ahead to mid Feb already!? How on earth can they?

Jinglingmod · 21/12/2020 18:49

Definitely more hedging language being used by Johnson and Hancock in last two days around schools. Hmmmm.
