You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Did we see in the guidance that it says students shouldn't be mixing household groups whilst travelling to and form school? Again WTAF.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/12/2020 19:29

I'm 3 mins in noble and it's a farce already.

Piggyinblankets · 17/12/2020 19:33

Who is asking the questions on that recording? I like her!

noelgiraffe · 17/12/2020 19:36

I don’t know, piggy, isn’t she brilliant? Says what we all want her to say.

Piggyinblankets · 17/12/2020 19:37

It is fucking embarrassing that video. Is Susan Acland-Hood on Mumsnet?!

I love the way she began 'we have been clear...'

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/12/2020 19:38

Yes, we need more of her.

The situation changing rapidly responses are annoying me. Yes it might be changing rapidly now but that's not the same as it being unpredictable. If they hadn't predicted this then they should have done, it doesn't make them less culpable.

Piggyinblankets · 17/12/2020 19:41

it's Fleur Anderson, Lab MP for Putney who was one of the better victories of the last election if I recall.

noelgiraffe · 17/12/2020 19:41

How can they say that this is unexpected and needed a rapid response when there have been threads on MN discussing this stuff for weeks?

Piggyinblankets · 17/12/2020 19:42

I can't believe she just said ' we learned that it was not popular to release information on Friday night'.

WhenSheWasBad · 17/12/2020 19:43

He said “I’m rude? You’re the rude one, telling me to be quiet”

Argh, so rude. They don’t seem to have any inkling that there is one teacher and 30 of them. They can all have their individual wants and needs met because there’s bloody 30 of them.

I was accused of shouting at a pupil today. I quietly asked her to be quiet (during a test). Apparently if I’m allowed to speak (to ask her to be quiet) she should be allowed to speak too. Hmm

SmileEachDay · 17/12/2020 19:43

Are you suggesting the govt should listen to teachers noel?

Don’t be absurd.

Piggyinblankets · 17/12/2020 19:45

Actually changed my mind. Might be Cons MP for Sleaford.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/12/2020 19:45

@noelgiraffe

How can they say that this is unexpected and needed a rapid response when there have been threads on MN discussing this stuff for weeks?
Exactly, it's total bollocks. And it was predictable back in June. If the DfE hadn't realised that transmission in schools was going to be a problem they really should have done.

Ooh we're onto mass testing.

noelgiraffe · 17/12/2020 19:47

@SmileEachDay

Are you suggesting the govt should listen to teachers noel?

Don’t be absurd.

There’s a bit in the video where the DfE woman squirms when asked if schools and teaching unions were consulted.

Apart from them, they should definitely be consulting us. We saw the problems and came up with solutions weeks ago.

Piggyinblankets · 17/12/2020 19:49

Did she just compare us to care home staff!!!???

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/12/2020 19:49

I think it might be Meg Hiller the Labour MP for Hackney South & Shoreditch.

DecemberStar · 17/12/2020 19:49

Like yr latest thread noble.

And a very good point made on it by someone who's calculated how many tests will be needed to test all secondary students and staff. (1.3 milllion or something , not sure if that includes "twice", forget how)

Do the govt have these tests available??

Also interesting to hear that at least one LA has already told schools they are no way going to be ready by first week in Jan.

Piggyinblankets · 17/12/2020 19:49

Susan doesn't like teachers.

She thinks we are lazy fuckers.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/12/2020 19:50

Oh it Meg Hiller, she's just given her constituency.

SmileEachDay · 17/12/2020 19:51

Apart from them, they should definitely be consulting us

They won’t though, because they know so much more about schools than people who work in them.

Piggyinblankets · 17/12/2020 19:51

Yes, it is Meg! She isn't a member of the Select Committee, oddly.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/12/2020 19:51

@Piggyinblankets

Susan doesn't like teachers.

She thinks we are lazy fuckers.

It's all that dossing about you are doing providing online learning when you should be swab testing pupils.
noelgiraffe · 17/12/2020 19:53

@Piggyinblankets

Susan doesn't like teachers.

She thinks we are lazy fuckers.

For a minute I thought you meant the other one.

Hang on...

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/12/2020 19:53

She is the chair of the Public Accounts Committee though.

GleamingBaubles · 17/12/2020 19:54

I used to know Fleur Anderson.
She's great - intelligent, reasonable, open to discussion. We should have her for PM. She'd be ace.
