You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I am worried about Kevin's mum.
Me too. I have a Kevin in my class. Gorgeous boy, but no, his mum should not be running the testing programme

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 16/12/2020 20:08

My little beep who has been on a part time timetable for 6 weeks has gone off with a temperature and an x code. I'll be FURIOUS if he's the one who closes my bubble in the last 2 days of term. Although he's probably not even been in the class for a total of 15 minutes this week, so who knows.

I'm completely conflicted about xmas. Supposed to be going away with in laws on Tuesday night - until Saturday. It makes me really uncomfortable.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 16/12/2020 20:15

In other news I found a bottle of Baileys. Best before end of 2017. It tastes fine 🤷‍♀️

TheHoneyBadger · 16/12/2020 20:20

That is a sure sign of not having a drinking problem MrsH! I never knew alcohol had best before dates - not something I've ever had to worry about Wink

MrsChristmasHamlet · 16/12/2020 20:22

It was hidden at the back of the bottom shelf of the cupboard. The gin gets turned around much more frequently

SquashedFlyBiscuitsForSanta · 16/12/2020 20:35

Today I have cried three times. Anyone does anything remotely kind anywhere near me and I weep. Class a little confused but seem to be going along with it. Can dealing with my emotions count as our PSHE lesson this week I wonder?

@namechangedyetagain how rubbish! Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

@TheHoneyBadger may I suggest 'TheHoneyRoastParsnipsBadger'?

So so so glad we are INSET tomorrow.

My annual Xmas bottle of Baileys was delivered with my shopping 2 hours ago. The security tag is attached. Not happy.

TheHoneyBadger · 16/12/2020 20:39

Joking aside my drinking really has gone up since this term. I have been isolating this week and perhaps unsurprisingly my alcohol consumption has plummeted.

I currently have a glass of fake baileys (£3.85 tesco offering) that I just realised I've had on the go for about an hour and a half and am not fussed about finishing. Might make a herbal tea [shocked]

That's a good suggestion! Sorry about the crying. I don't know if I recounted on here that during ds's recent year group closure we had a fight and both ended up at opposite ends of the house having a good cry.

He hollered something dramatic like, 'i don't even want to be alive' and I equally dramatically said, 'do you think I do?' and then we both cried. Soon after we felt much better and he cracked on with his homework and then we had a really nice evening.

Times are tough! A good cry with or without a huff can be very cathartic so I hope you at least got an endorphine hit for your tears.

SaltyAF · 16/12/2020 20:46

I consider my ability not to touch sherry or brandy for any purpose other than trifle and Christmas cake baking proof that I'm not a fully fledged alcoholic. I think there might be a bottle of Asti that's at least eight years old knocking about too. Wine, beer and gin are a different story, and we're on our third bottle of Bailey's!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 16/12/2020 20:46

Oh I'm crying at everything. Keep choking up when reading to the kids.. over bugger all. A santa hat in the snow? Cry.

HarrietDVane · 16/12/2020 20:49

So sorry to hear your positive result Name - hope you recover quickly and it’s not too awful. Flowers

More FlowersWineGinBrewCake to all those in need today.

TheHoneyBadger · 16/12/2020 20:55

You're not pregnant are you Rule!?

I remember being very heavily pregnant in a non-antenatal waiting room for a pelvic support belt fitting (spd) and I couldn't stop balling my eyes out because of an article on elephant poachers in the national geographic. They all probably thought I'd been given a terrible diagnosis.

I haven't cried at school since escaping the Science department.

Salty I'm impressed and it's definitely proof - I don't like brandy but I'd have started adding it to coffee by now if it was the only alcohol in the house.

winewolfhowls · 16/12/2020 21:01

Get well soon Name and all who are ill. Fingers crossed we do get a later start back in January, but I'll believe it when I'm actually living it.

This is a brilliant twitter thread :

Piggyinblankets · 16/12/2020 21:09

Branwen Jeffreys very vocal on Twitter tonight.

CountDuckulasCranberrySauce · 16/12/2020 21:11

So pissed off with this last minute swap. Already planned the first week back which will be a complete write off if it's remote. Will have to Replan the whole week. So much for having a good break from work.

KnowingMeKnowingYule · 16/12/2020 21:11

Ooo please link Branwen as I came off Twitter. It became all consuming (bit like here but I'm not giving up this sanctuary).

PumpkinPie2016 · 16/12/2020 21:21

I'll be fuming if the start of term is delayed. We have BTEC students with actual exams that week plus Y11 mocks starting the week after.

We have so much content to get through -I am still delivering normal lessons tomorrow (Fri, kids are just staying in forms), I can't afford to miss face to face time with Y11/13 in particular.

Plus, announcing so close to the end of term gives no time for people to plan online versions of their lessons Xmas Angry Everyone is shattered and I want me and my faculty (and the rest of the school) to have a good rest over Christmas, not be faffing planning alternative lessons.

WhenSheWasBad · 16/12/2020 21:21

Hope you are ok squashedfly sounds like you are struggling a bit. Two more days to go.

name sorry you’ve tested positive. Hope you get a very mild dose of it.

Piggyinblankets · 16/12/2020 21:31

I can't really link to Branwen as it is multiple post slagging the DfE off effectively.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/12/2020 21:32

Gin Gin Gin Gin Gin Gin

It feels like it's an emergency tonight.
It's not long until the end of the week now. Just do whatever you need to get through it.

TheHoneyBadger · 16/12/2020 21:41

Piggy I like this tweet best, "The vision of a bold and independent-minded band of buccaneering school leaders seems to have been replaced with one of serried ranks of headteachers, marching in lockstep behind the Education Secretary and bleating 'four legs good, two legs bad' in loyal unison."

Studying Animal Farm with ds was one of the highlights of the first lockdown and so timely. Love that ds would get this reference Smile Quality education = subversion in my opinion. I'm the kind of teacher they worry about.
