You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Right well then, yes, you must SI. tell cover person to do one.

TheHoneyBadger · 14/12/2020 08:54

I've sent the guidance If someone in your support bubble develops coronavirus symptoms or tests positive
If anyone in your support bubble develops symptomss or tests positive for coronavirus, follow the stay at home guidancee.
This is critical to controlling the virus, as it will help to stop it spreading across multiple households.

TheHoneyBadger · 14/12/2020 08:56

I hope they back off

Augustbreeze · 14/12/2020 08:57

It's one of those things that a) those fortunate enough not to need a bubble won't have personally considered (although of course professionally they should have) and b) many in support bubbles won't be aware of!

Augustbreeze · 14/12/2020 08:58

Is it mentioned in yr RA?
Union?

WhenSheWasBad · 14/12/2020 09:04

@TheHoneyBadger

I hope they back off
I hope they back off too. You need to isolate.

Hope they come to their senses soon and leave you be.

TheHoneyBadger · 14/12/2020 09:08

I don't think their risk assessment is allowed to be less safe than national policy surely?

I hate the way everything seems to be hard work with schools.

Augustbreeze · 14/12/2020 09:18

Absolutely Honey.

HerdyGerdy · 14/12/2020 09:19

Chunk of two year groups out today due to positive cases.
Looks like a quite a few parents not sending in children this close to Christmas.
Like Piggy we’ve got staff out as their children’s schools are shut / burst bubbles.
I’m exhausted and resentful and fully in line with Scrooge and his misanthropy. Hoping that I start to feel cheerier soon...

TheHoneyBadger · 14/12/2020 09:20

They've dropped it thankfully.

HerdyGerdy · 14/12/2020 09:21

And stay at home Honey - your cover person needs to shut up and pay attention to the guidelines.

Augustbreeze · 14/12/2020 10:04

Brill Honey. Now you just have to wait....

monkeytennis97 · 14/12/2020 10:16

On LBC now. Can't phone in this time.

Augustbreeze · 14/12/2020 10:16

Sadiq Khan calls for extra measures and financial support (presuming tier 3 entry), including London schools to close this week and to reopen later in January, which I hadn't heard anywhere else:

This says it all 😆

That'll go down like a lead balloon if it's one rule for London and sod the rest of us.

Piggywaspushed · 14/12/2020 11:16

Haha! that facebook page has probably just pinged the 'piggy is swearing' alert in ICT! Grin

For my own sanity I am hiding from kids going the wrong way, shouting, with no masks on... I should get a promotion to SLT now as that seems to be the way.

Piggywaspushed · 14/12/2020 11:18

Why hasn't Sadiq ever spoken up before? I like him but he has had his eye off the ball,as have most Labour politicians.

I ahve been thinking about the union thing. Guess our unions don't provide enough money and clock voting to the Labour party?

Piggywaspushed · 14/12/2020 11:18

block voting

Piggywaspushed · 14/12/2020 11:25

They really need to change the list of symptoms for children : I am sure Covid wouldn't have taken such a hold in the 10-19 age group if stomach pains was on the list.

This government is only interested in protecting school attendance figures : even Germany, Denmark and Sweden have dropped that concern!! And the US, whom we fleer and scorn for their laissez faire aproach to spread has loads of online learning!

Isthatitnow · 14/12/2020 11:49

as a north west teacher in a continuing tier 3 area where numbers have decreased and where our industry (tourism) has been utterly decimated, I can tell you it has gone down like a lead balloon this morning that our lives weren't important enough to close but London lives are. It is beyond despicable that they are only now picking this up. If they do London out till mid-January but the rest of us in, I will resign. My life is not worth less because I don't teach in London.

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/12/2020 12:12

Feels like March again with everyone arguing over closing schools or no. Feel like I could go home one day and then not be allowed back in. Of course school continuing with end of term assemblies creating nearly 40 hours of cover and however many other lost lessons for those in the assemblies. I mean that is obviously the safest thing to do right now... 🙄

Appuskidu · 14/12/2020 12:33

Islington schools closing as well by the sounds of it.

ChloeDecker · 14/12/2020 12:54

Why hasn't Sadiq ever spoken up before? I like him but he has had his eye off the ball,as have most Labour politicians.

His main focus has been climate change (closing roads around Primaries and installing as many cycle lanes/closing roads as possible) and TfL. He has pretty much ignored schools up until now.

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/12/2020 12:56

Yep. According to this chart on the bbc website my borough has higher rates than either Greenwich or Islington.... chart in this article Coronavirus: Latest figures for London www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-54324244
