You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I think my namesake would have been permanently tiddled - one dead husband, one murdering husband, a haunted house, and an emo son... so I chucked some a lot of brandy in my hot choc, and am drinking mulled gin which isn't great but who cares... it's gin
A CBA sort of day today. CBA with this week either. But I heard today from my secret santee from a Facebook group I'm in, and she liked my choice of gift (miraculous since we've never met and her "social media" is limited to her university website) so it definitely celebration time.

SmileEachDay · 13/12/2020 19:36

Mulled gin 😂😂😂😂

What are you mixing it with?

RigaBalsam · 13/12/2020 19:39

Everywhere is reporting about Greenwich now. Why couldn't they do this everywhere and give people notice.
So stressed that we will catch or have to isolate this week.

MrsHamlet · 13/12/2020 19:39

I had some Christmas spice syrup. It's not the best ... but hungover Monday is a thing, right? If I keep drinking it'll take the taste away...

SmileEachDay · 13/12/2020 19:45

MrsH nooooo you will regret it. We need to devise a delicious Xmas menu of gin based cocktails!

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/12/2020 19:56

School nearby but in neighbouring borough just gone full remote following advice from public health in their borough.....

monkeytennis97 · 13/12/2020 19:59

Which borough?

Medra · 13/12/2020 20:01

Hope everyone has had a good weekend. One more week left at our place. Friday is a slightly early finish, but other than that is supposed to be business as usual.

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/12/2020 20:02

@monkeytennis97

Which borough?
PM’d you @monkeytennis97
noblegiraffe · 13/12/2020 20:05

Even my parents who like Boris Johnson Shock think that he has ballsed up Christmas and cocked-up schools. And they spent the summer telling me it was terrible that the unions were blocking re-opening, so if they’re not falling for the propaganda any more maybe there’s hope.

noblegiraffe · 13/12/2020 20:06

MrsHamlet · 13/12/2020 20:11

I know, smile
The last time was when we got outstanding in our ofsted, having been in SM for two years. Practically the whole staff went to the pub straight after the verdict - which was of course embargoed. I don't think anyone who saw us all tipping back quantities of fizzy wine from about 4.30 could have failed to guess what we got! I had to get a taxi home and another to work the next morning and my y13 form were highly amused by my wan face. Never ever again!
One of my favourites is equal measures gin, apricot brandy and grenadine. Shake with an egg white over lots of ice. Strain and serve. No idea what it's called!

SmileEachDay · 13/12/2020 20:15

Ooof. There’s nothing like a taxi of shame to work.

I like gin/elderflower liqueur/Prosecco/soda/ice

Piggywaspushed · 13/12/2020 20:19

DH going to the tip tomorrow. Getting annoyed becausd we don't have disposable gloves...

It's like getting into Fort Knox. The irony is not lost on teachers.

MsAwesomeReindeer · 13/12/2020 20:24

I love the Christmas name Ange. You've inspired me to try something festive. I'm not normally festive tbh.

I've never needed to get a taxi in to work, but I did need transport home after our outstanding verdict many years ago. Luckily, SLT at the time organised an actual proper party for the full staff, and laid on buses to take staff back to their towns (not direct to the door, but close enough that a taxi was really cheap for the last part). They did us proud, it was almost like a wedding!! Nothing like that since then, obviously, but we haven't been inspected since then (and have lost funding and made redundancies, no money for parties any more). That was obviously not the day the verdict came in, but I think it was the Saturday after we were allowed to share the verdict with pupils and parents. That was quite some night, especially for someone like me who a) doesn't go out much and b) never drinks. I was somewhat ill the next morning.

MrsHamlet · 13/12/2020 20:31

Our proper party was pie and peas at the Workies. As a southerner, I've never got pie and peas... and no one had told the bingo club so they were forced to move into the corridor. It was very odd!
There were some very unexpected couplings up that night. I'm still traumatised.

namechangedyetagain · 13/12/2020 20:43

Well I finished my first placement on Friday and had a really good report from the head, and a lovely card from my teacher. Passed my reflective essay so feeling really, really happy. Maybe, just maybe, I'll actually be able to do this!

Saying that, this weekend I've thoroughly embraced the student life and had wine on Friday night, some festive Baileys and caught up on sleep.

Good luck to all of those in this week, you're nearly there Flowers

MrsHamlet · 13/12/2020 20:46

Hooray, name Cake FlowersWine

noblegiraffe · 13/12/2020 20:54

Congrats, name! Another hurdle leaped!

noblegiraffe · 13/12/2020 20:54

Can anyone solve this mystery?
