You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Ooh, no, sounds a bit radical. Goes off to iPlayer...

WhenSheWasBad · 12/12/2020 09:38

@Halifaxgirl

Did you see the epidemiologist explaining the total lack of safety measures in school 10 minutes ago on BBC. Breakfast news?
I missed that. Watching Teen Titans with my son instead.

Will have to go and have a look. Hopefully it was suitably scathing.

ChloeDecker · 12/12/2020 09:44

I missed that Halifaxgirl (I’m chained to CBeebies this morning!)
I’m so pleased-that’s something at least!

noblegiraffe · 12/12/2020 09:47

If you're looking it's at 9:18am.

She said everything we've been saying about masks, ventilation, no investment and no attempt to introduce mitigation measures but instead go straight to closing schools.

And there's no follow-up at all. Conversation goes straight into something else.

CallmeAngelina · 12/12/2020 09:52

And whilst it's sad that Barbara Windsor has died, the amount of airtime given to that!!!!

Halifaxgirl · 12/12/2020 09:52

Also that younger children are also taking the virus home contradicting the gp who also spouted on about infected not being the same as infectious .

Augustbreeze · 12/12/2020 09:54

Just to clarify what I posted about me visiting my brother (sorry it's going round in my head): there's no intention that I test before visiting. His home is not for over 65s, however he, and, I suspect, several of the other 8 residents, are CEV.

noblegiraffe · 12/12/2020 10:05

I assumed that you would be tested before being allowed physical contact, August. Can you lie and get one?

Piggywaspushed · 12/12/2020 10:36

augsut : RSCs = Regional Schools Commissioners , non political appointments. LOL.

Cracklefraggle · 12/12/2020 11:12

Finishing Thursday now. Would be half day Friday anyway and 6th form finish Wed so no real teaching getting missed.
The kids are as shattered as we are. Every year - so child - has faced disruption this year. Actually had to step in to prevent one of the nicest kids in the school launching a physical attack on another kid over nothing yesterday Sad
Spoke to him afterwards and he thanked me for stopping him doing something stupid. He'd just lost it as he is so tired and stressed right now.
We are all just, sometimes physically, dragging each through these last few days.
FlowersWineGin for eveyone.

TheHoneyBadger · 12/12/2020 11:21

I messaged you august.

Yay for the weekend.

Agree that everyone is tired.

noblegiraffe · 12/12/2020 11:23

I was so tired I forgot to turn my alarm clock off :(

ChloeDecker · 12/12/2020 11:24

Oh noble-the last straw!

ChloeDecker · 12/12/2020 11:26

Oh jeez Cracklefraggle it’s like a pressure cooker isn’t it!?

BreadSaucery · 12/12/2020 11:30

I’m spraying foraged branches with silver spray paint today. Poncing the absolute fuck out of Christmas. We always go away, so it’s a novelty to tart the house up. I say ‘novelty’ but I really mean ‘sad ball ache’ Grin
I’ve spent a shitload on natural pine wreaths and garlands too. Nutcracker Suite on Alexa. My late Granny used to get the record out every Christmas for us and passed it on to me.
Sticky, indulgent chocolate brownie making session later.

August I hope you get to see your brother. I would also test by hook or by crook if possible if it would in any way help the situation to know.

MadameMinimes · 12/12/2020 11:38

I’m really quite shocked at the way in which that school in Hertfordshire has been treated. I’d like to see the NAHT and ASCL really stepping up here to defend HTs who make decisions in the best interests of their own school communities. I personally think HTs should stand their ground. It’s also interesting that they’ve chosen to single out one school in Hertfordshire when a flurry of London schools have been very quietly making similar decisions on switching to remote learning next week. I wonder if it’s just that they announced this earlier and the London schools all have similar letters heading their way now. I’ll be interested to see whether those schools band together and stand their ground.

ChloeDecker · 12/12/2020 12:08

Poncing the absolute fuck out of Christmas.

This is my new mantra.

MsAwesomeDragon · 12/12/2020 12:23

Dd2 and I have spent the morning drawing Christmas cartoons from YouTube tutorials. So that was fun. Not sure what we're going to do with them, but dd had fun. Now she's tormenting the dog we've borrowed for the weekend (not really tormenting him, but she wants to play and he wants to sleep).

noblegiraffe · 12/12/2020 12:31

No poncing here, plenty of tinsel and shiny tat instead of artful stuff. Looks like a unicorn has vomited on our living room. DD loves it.

StationView · 12/12/2020 12:31

My school is - I shit you not - having a PFA Christmas fair today. Nothing could persuade the head to cancel it. Tier 2 here, surrounded by Tier 3 areas. When I discovered that in addition to the outdoor stalls there would also be some in the school hall, I seriously considered ringing up Environmental Health Angry

noblegiraffe · 12/12/2020 12:32

WTAF Station that's mad!

MadameMinimes · 12/12/2020 12:33

That is fucking bonkers station

Augustbreeze · 12/12/2020 12:33

!!!! @StationView . I'd anonymously report.....

Hercwasonaroll · 12/12/2020 12:36

Station that is insane!!!!!

Baking and lateral flow tests here. All negative.

Sons isolation rules changing means he can now have a whole week at nursery instead of 2 days. I wasn't going to send him back but unsure now.

Flowerblue · 12/12/2020 12:36

Panic attack last night. Four members of staff having to go home during Thursday/Friday due to various sickness/self isolation. Dd is year 11 and incredibly stressed/depressed. I am creeping round the house trying to get a bit of housework done. It’s so miserable. I can’t think about next week at the moment.
