You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I'm having mulled wine, hot cheese and mince pie fudge for tea.

So even the country that openly admits it is not going for suppression is taking mitigations against spread in secondary schools. Hmm

I'm sorry for my self pity party. I've played mousetrap and dobble with the kids, drank a whole bottle of wine with DH (I had substantially more than him!) And now feel much better.
I do know I'm not a crap teacher. I know I get bloody good results, and when I was supply, 3 schools were asking me to stay as permanent. But I'm a perfectionist and sometimes if I can't be "best" it feels like failure.
Onwards and upwards! GrinGin

There's fruit there. Carbs (some sugars) and protein in cheese. Balanced diet! Grin

That is what matters in the end, Why, the kids are learning. I'm not great at behaviour management either, I don't have classes of silent, obedient pupils, but it's not my style. I tried to do it in my NQT year and I fucking hated it and the kids hated me. I'm not an authoritarian type who can impose my will on a class, I'm more of a jolly kids along that turns more into a sharp nag if they won't be jollied. It suits me and they learn stuff anyway.

ChloeDecker · 11/12/2020 19:51

Evening all, you fabulous lot! Extremely proud of you all for getting through this week. Enjoy those mulled wines and yummy goodies. Thoroughly well deserved!

MsAwesomeDragon · 11/12/2020 19:51

We've borrowed a dog for the weekend, so that's keeping us happy. We've been for a walk, he's been on the sofa for a cuddle (not allowed in his house, he didn't know what was going on), and is going to sleep in his cage in dd2's room. Dd2 is so incredibly happy.

Another petty complaint about me from parents today. Apparently they've complained that I was on my phone, at break time!! So not even in lessons, but being on my phone at break is apparently cause for complaint. Some people have too much time on their hands.

MsAwesomeDragon · 11/12/2020 19:53

I'm not an authoritarian type who can impose my will on a class, I'm more of a jolly kids along that turns more into a sharp nag if they won't be jollied. It suits me and they learn stuff anyway. That's me too!! I was told in my early years of teaching that I need to be "more of a bitch", but I couldn't do that at all.

noblegiraffe · 11/12/2020 19:55

Some people are just terrible, MsAwesome Like, do they know how lucky they are to have a qualified maths teacher in front of their kids? They should be sending in fruit baskets not pissing you off with spurious complaints.

ChloeDecker · 11/12/2020 19:56

I had an email today from a parent ccing my deputy head, saying that I wasn’t providing proper remote learning because I wasn’t turning my camera on.

I’m teaching live lessons into my actual classrooms plus adding pupils who are self isolating from home. I’m also marking their work via Teams. I have my DD at home so don’t want her in shot self isolating. What on Earth?!

Nothing is ever good enough is it for some parents. It’s why I take every claim on here with ‘we didn’t get any work during lockdown 1’ with a pinch of salt.

noblegiraffe · 11/12/2020 20:01

What would your face add to the lesson, Chloe?

Hope the dep head tells them they're lucky to get what they're getting.

MsAwesomeDragon · 11/12/2020 20:03

That's a crap complaint Chloe. How dare they say you aren't providing proper remote learning just because you don't have a camera pointed at your face. You are doing a great job I'm sure! Ignore the idiots who are criticising something they couldn't do themselves (I assume).

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 11/12/2020 20:06

Send a mask to the cover TA?

ChloeDecker · 11/12/2020 20:08

My deputy head is fabulous that’s for sure. No worries there about how it will be responded to.
Maybe my face is just too perfect not to be seen!!!!

ChloeDecker · 11/12/2020 20:10

Or maybe it’s that age old issue that if you can’t be ‘seen’ to be doing your job as a teacher, you’re not doing it at all. Am I right!?!!!!

Piggywaspushed · 11/12/2020 20:11

I used to be very strict. Have softened with age. The stern teacher thing doesn't work any more.

I did make a boy quake in his shoes today though.

mumsneedwine · 11/12/2020 20:19

@ChloeDecker you could try my trick. I forgot I was live streaming and stood in front of the camera so student had a view of my backside for 20 minutes. He was too embarrassed to tell me but his mum eventually unmuted and very politely asked if I could move. Glanced at screen and my bum looked mahoosive. Could be worse though. My male colleague was facing the other way when he stood in front of the camera. Let's just say we have saved that recorded lesson for prosperity.
If I can't laugh at immature things I won't get through the day.

noblegiraffe · 11/12/2020 20:22

My DH just read the above post and said 'Why aren't these people wearing clothes??'

mumsneedwine · 11/12/2020 20:25

@noblegiraffe 😂😂😂 maybe that's should be m next trick. I'm 53. Year 11 will never complain about being in school again if the other option is me being starkers.

mumsneedwine · 11/12/2020 20:26

And male teacher wears very tight trousers. When computer is on desk and he's standing up the camera does not leave a lot to the imagination. He was mortified.

WhyNotMe40 · 11/12/2020 20:28

Thanks Noble and MsAwesot. No I just can't be authoritarian. But my usual methods of quiet little chat, standing behind a shoulder and tapping the page etc, are completely not allowed at the moment. So I'm really struggling with one particular class... And if I'm honest there's one pupil who I just don't like. Which is not like me.
