You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

ie his authorities' teachers, not everyone nationwide.

Augustbreeze · 10/12/2020 23:16

Whoops, authority's

Here in Ireland I'm being plagued by parents asking when we're announcing an inset day next Friday...

No lads. You live in Ireland. We don't have inset. We don't have Boris. We don't finish on the 18th anyway. Y'know, cos it's a whole separate country?

I swear I should bring them all in for a geography lesson. Or perhaps a "Stop Believing Everything on Facebook" lesson Grin

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/12/2020 23:25

Well I suppose that’s a change from the English not realising you’re a separate country. Grin

DreamingofBrie · 10/12/2020 23:27

Hi all,
Grades and reports all in the system now, thank goodness. Two assessments to do before the end of term for my KS3 classes and I think I'll either do a Y12 assessment on their last lesson of term (that always seems to yield disastrous results if I remember correctly), or on their first lesson back in January.

DrMadeleineMaxwell, I'm glad you're taking time off. I hope that you're all ok. If your neighbouring county is Wrexham, we might be relatively close geographically!

I spent my day off today finishing off my Christmas shopping and posting, and wrapping presents to put under the tree. It was nice, but I'm now finishing my marking Hmm.

We've had a few staff test positive in the past week. I'm starting to see absences creeping up in my classes as well. Probably won't see my parents on Christmas Day Sad, but hopefully will get to see them by New Year.

Oh one was English as it happened, I don't mind them getting confused about it - but then there's the Irish peddling this nonsense to me, they have no excuse! Cop the feck on, people!
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 10/12/2020 23:52

@Appuskidu circular arguments. Bored now!

ChloeDecker · 11/12/2020 06:31

We have finally got to Friday. Well done all! Hope today goes by speedily for all.

monkeytennis97 · 11/12/2020 06:35

Day off for me. Good luck everyone today. We had at least two different year groups yesterday picked apart for tracing...Unofficially a few teachers have it now but officially not heard anything.

SaltyAF · 11/12/2020 06:37

@Augustbreeze

Ah shucks! Zoom is our friend though.

Guy from Barking council on R4 tonight said also all teachers are going to be offered two tests, one to be done in the holidays.

Will it be wrapped up with a big Christmassy fucking bow?

(Sorry I get very sweary when I'm grumpy).

namechangedyetagain · 11/12/2020 06:51

Today is the last day of my first placement🥳. Cannot believe I've actually made it this far!

I am however starting to feel slightly coldy and achey. They're not symptoms are they? We've been bloody lucky to get through this term relatively unaffected.

Happy Friday everyone !

BreadSaucery · 11/12/2020 07:02

It will be administered by Elves, SaltyAF. You won’t get a Positive or Negative result, it will be designated Naughty or Nice.

Also a sign of cold classrooms, stress and benign winter bugs, name. Keep an eye on your temp and be honest with yourself if you feel very fatigued Flowers

Danglingmod · 11/12/2020 07:11

School Head on BBC Breakfast now saying they'll have resting available for all staff and students on January, too?

Amazing for them but way to infuriate the rest of the country!

Milestone! Have a good rest over Christmas and good luck in your next placement. I used to love seeing my classmates on uni days, I guess you are online when not in school?

Well done, good on you for sticking with it! Here's hoping for a lovely supportive mentor in your spring term placement. And your symptoms sound like end-of-term-itis, chocolate, wine and sleep are the best treatments.
Mistressiggi · 11/12/2020 07:45

@CallmeAngelina

Whatever, it sounds like we're stuffed for the prospect of any potential meet-up one day!!
Wouldn't bother me Angelina, planes trains and automobiles are available Grin
TheHoneyBadger · 11/12/2020 07:50

Well done name.

It is Friday. Not sure why I've got the fear Confused It's one day, I can do this surely.

When I watched the briefing I began to wonder if they insisted schools are open this term was because they knew they wouldn't be able to be next term when nhs hits it's most pressured months. But then perhaps worse I thought or they wanted it to burn through schools and young people quickly before that pressure time in the hopes most of them had it before that pressure point.

BreadSaucery · 11/12/2020 07:54

I agree, Honey. Schools open was a valve for transmission in as controlled a way as possible. It's the non transparent way this was done that makes me angry.

WhyNotMe40 · 11/12/2020 08:20

I totally believe they wanted it to run through schools

borntobequiet · 11/12/2020 08:44

My day off so only listened to a very few min of Covid related reporting on R4 but the school infection issue that bubbled up into the public consciousness yesterday evening seems to have sunk without trace again, presumably under some sort of D-notice from a panicking government.

Yes thinking the same.....

The government will all be watching Carry On films today and clinking glasses to Barbara Windsor.

Flagsfiend · 11/12/2020 09:17

I've tested positive Sad I've been so careful, but still managed to catch it - almost certainly from school...

Piggywaspushed · 11/12/2020 09:49

Oh flags, hope you are OK!

MrsHerculePoirot · 11/12/2020 10:19

Sorry to hear that @Flagsfiend wishing you a speedy recovery.

@starrynight19 and @ChloeDecker how are you both now?

MrsHerculePoirot · 11/12/2020 10:20
