You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Oh yes, it was our fault right back in September.

I'm weirdly relieved that this has happened. Finally. Fucking finally. Almost cried telling partner about it.

@Danglingmod I live between Reading and Oxford. Reading is half way between the Thames estuary and the Severn estuary, in a straight line.

Hey August, and the staff room, Got swallowed up by other things that drain my rants and time for a couple of weeks. Nice to see you all.

Here's a big chocolate tray bake for you all, dig in. And a feck load of gin. GinGinGin

Hadn't seen the briefing and just read a bit about London schools getting rapid testing and blew up.

Solidarity. The feckers.

The random Tory mp who won Blyth up here received death threats over voting down the free school hol meals; the tories are rapidly loosing support up here.

That schools testing trial must be nearing the end soon. Wonder what the results are?

noblegiraffe · 10/12/2020 19:41

What amazes me is that teachers haven't yet been blamed for Covid in schools. Or have they?

Of course we have! We're the ones spreading it by snuggling up in staffrooms and having massive after-school socials!

CallmeAngelina · 10/12/2020 19:42

Watched the bbc news and now just want to sit and cry.

Don't know where to start. But would quite like to start a thread similar to one I saw recently demanding that people admit they were wrong.
Big WELL DONE to @noblegiraffe for her current thread, which (interestingly!) hasn't turned into a bunfight.
Yet.
Maybe it's a sign of a shift in thinking?

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/12/2020 19:44

I do hope you are all ok. I've been thinking of you all Thanks

I will try to catch up on thread; brain cells seem fucked for some reason!

CallmeAngelina · 10/12/2020 19:47

Oh, and I feel as if I should apologise for being a southerner, just outside London.
But we DID get angry about schools in Hull, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham etc... way back when, even as the numbers in the SE were relatively low at the time.
But REALLY???? They admit there's a problem NOW? 2 weeks before Christmas? Too late to do anything effective about it?

I am FUCKING LIVID.

noblegiraffe · 10/12/2020 19:49

Don't do it Ange! That OP got a pasting!

I feel a bit wobbly.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 10/12/2020 19:51

What's good about it, is that parents who can will take kids out of school next week. Fewer germ carriers breathing at us.

noblegiraffe · 10/12/2020 19:52

My thread is here for those who don't leave the staffroom www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4103075-Secondary-schools-are-stuffed-GOVERNMENT-ADMITS

My OP is rather uncharacteristically short.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/12/2020 19:53

Another angry southerner here. Sorry for that.

All the lying about schools has properly fucked their Christmas plan and all of this could have been and probably was foreseen. It's not like it's one cock up either it's combination of refusing to put adequate measures into schools, not closing them during the 2nd lockdown and then coming out of lockdown into tiers too early when the covid rate was still very high.

Keeping the schools open might have been fine on it's own but you can't do that and not compensate for it somewhere else.

Loshad · 10/12/2020 19:54

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay
Sorry in my anger I was less than precise, yes frontline staff only for all of them (and not unreasonably DHs secretary for eg has been working from home since March and bundles in once a week moaning about it, In DS ‘s trust the HR people moaned about him not telling them he had been off with a badly cut hand, I emailed you he said, oh yes I don’t check my emails 😳)

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/12/2020 19:56

That's ok Loshad. Was just about to get unreasonably annoyed that only frontline staff in our trust are. I don't see that that's going to stop our current staff outbreak given a lot of the frontline staff are working alongside non-frontline staff, but hey.

MrsHamlet · 10/12/2020 20:12

Interesting: my LA have offered lateral flow tests to all secondaries. Approx half of heads have said yes immediately. The other half are worried about the potential disruption. I'm in the north so this is unexpected.

AnyoneseenGav · 10/12/2020 20:17

New this week in the PHE surveillance : occupation!!

Guess what is top!?

MrsHamlet · 10/12/2020 20:19

Ooooh this one's tricky.... is it oil rig worker?

Appuskidu · 10/12/2020 20:20

RigaBalsam · 10/12/2020 20:23

Can someone post the link?

Loshad · 10/12/2020 20:23

It’s hands down questioning in here @Appuskidu

Piggywaspushed · 10/12/2020 20:23

loshad Grin

noblegiraffe · 10/12/2020 20:23

If it's this graph, then healthcare is top for infection occupation (blue is work), teaching second.

Piggywaspushed · 10/12/2020 20:23

slide 17 I think.

MrsHamlet · 10/12/2020 20:24

Not a clue. It was discussed in the county union zoom meeting tonight (which I missed because I was at parents' evening)
We do have at least one secondary fully closed right now...

Piggywaspushed · 10/12/2020 20:24

Is healthcare work or attending?
