You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

We all remembered her saying that - do they think we don’t actually read posts or something?! Grin

WhyNotMe40 · 07/12/2020 22:11

Just scrolling back a bit,

DrMadeline please take time for yourself and your family Flowers

I so wanted to call her on it, but am still on my best behaviour despite what noble thinks.
WhenSheWasBad · 07/12/2020 22:15

DrMadeline I’m glad you are taking some time to look after yourself. Hope you aren’t back till after Xmas. Flowers

CarrieBlue · 07/12/2020 22:48

Please don’t waste buns in fighting - we need all the sustenance we can get at the moment!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/12/2020 23:20

Regards online learning - 5 out of 26 children have accessed/responded to/handed in/done any work out of the 3/4 class isolating in our school. Only half of them have picked up packs from school to support their learning - the videos and live sessions go with the pack resources.

Sod what they say on here about needing online learning. It's different everywhere.

PumpkinPie2016 · 08/12/2020 05:55

Morning all Xmas Grin

I was awake from about 4.30am for some reason which is ludicrous given how tired I feel Xmas Confused

We seem to be doing ok in terms of staff and pupil attendance at the moment (watch me have jinxed it now!). So, cover/online learning isn't too bad here.

The main issue now is that everyone is tired and we are desperately clinging to the end of term. Normal lessons until next Friday including Y10 assessments next week - kids are as tired as we are so it's going to be interesting!

monkeytennis97 · 08/12/2020 06:35

Morning all! Day off today but lots of marking to be doneSad as I didn't do any over the weekend. Going to go for a long walk later to blow away the cobwebs. Hope everyone has a manageable day x

HerdyGerdy · 08/12/2020 07:21

It’s today’s round of ‘how many layers will Herdy need in order to not freeze to death in her own classroom?’

Vest + thermal long sleeve t shirt + dress + cardigan + coatigan + scarf + 120 denier tights + socks + boots.
Coat, gloves and hat ready, obviously.

This is insane. I’ve put on five pounds just from my layers 😂

MsAwesomeDragon · 08/12/2020 07:31

I really hope today is better than yesterday. I sat with dd1 and helped her fill in the depression questionnaire for the doctor, and in the process concluded that I may be depressed as well. Which is shit, and hopefully not true in general, just a reflection of the really shit day I was having.

In my game of layers I'm wearing rights under my trousers, a t-shirt, smart top, cardigan, wrist warmers, scarf. My thermals should be arriving today, so tomorrow I might actually be warm rather than just "not quite freezing"

HerdyGerdy · 08/12/2020 07:43

Sorry to hear that MsAwesome. It won’t sound like much but from DP’s depression and my own, having someone there means the world when your brain is telling you you deserve to be alone and miserable.

AFallingStar · 08/12/2020 07:43

Yesterday I wore so many layers. Every time the classroom door closed (we do close the one to the outside every now and again and open while they're out at break etc) I was baking. Every time I opened it, my hands were so cold! I need to find my fingerless gloves...

Today I'm going to brave just one layer on my legs. Although the leggings/tights combo did save my knees when I fell up the stairs (in front of all the year 6s and my line manager Blush ).

Mistressiggi · 08/12/2020 07:50

I went to bed as soon as I got home for work yesterday, up again now obviously - feel like I've travelled through time somehow! Grin Where did my evening go? Sad

TheHoneyBadger · 08/12/2020 08:16

Good effort mistress! You must have needed it.

Isthatitnow · 08/12/2020 08:32

have been hanging on in there for months and pushed over the edge learning that a young woman I used to work with some years ago (and by young, I mean not yet 30) contracted covid late September and is now diagnosed 'long covid' and is currently unable to work at all. Have actually cried on the way to work this morning. It's not right.

Augustbreeze · 08/12/2020 10:21

Ah MrsAwesome, I feel for you and for your DD. I've been wondering how many people would score with at least "mild depression" on a questionnaire in the current situation, me included, even though I've always seemed able to 'dodge the bullet' of MH problems - despite having quite a few challenges in my life to date.

But a pandemic has a tendency to push people over that edge I guess! Esp if your workplace doesn't feel safe.

Just been speaking remotely to a colleague who is shielding, she said her consultant categorically forbade her from coming into school.

TheHoneyBadger · 08/12/2020 14:35

I've done some work planning for the end of the the week and dealt with emails but still avoiding marking these bloody tests. I have to hand them back and do next steps in a lesson on Friday so I will have to do them on Thursday.

I'm beginning to feel a bit like I'm going to make it to Christmas and feel like patting myself on the back so I'm touching wood frantically in case I'm jinxing it Wink

What a lovely present for heads.... Hmm

noblegiraffe · 08/12/2020 16:12

DfE really are fucking useless aren’t they? I saw on twitter that some heads were planning to refuse to work Xmas so maybe that prompted it.

The weird teacher troll thread starter has been at it today too. Started a thread about how great teachers are just so they could name change and reply that actually we’re all crap. Way too much time on their hands.

Piggywaspushed · 08/12/2020 16:18

Is that still up?

noblegiraffe · 08/12/2020 16:21

No, got deleted. Riddled with sock puppets apparently!

Piggywaspushed · 08/12/2020 16:21

I always miss these gems!

noblegiraffe · 08/12/2020 16:22

Scotland have cancelled all exams. Wow.

noblegiraffe · 08/12/2020 16:23

We are all heroes apparently, piggy. No idea how they thought it would pass as a genuine thread 😂

Piggywaspushed · 08/12/2020 16:25

Wow.

Scotsnet about to go mental!
