You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@MrsHamlet blimey you asked to leave today? Is it purely because of the Covid shitshow?

Saucery · 27/11/2020 18:53

Have you had enough, MrsHamlet?

MrsHamlet · 27/11/2020 18:53

I did. It's not only that... my personal life is a shitshow too and I desperately need to move on...
I knew it would be a no. But I feel trapped. I know I can resign and go at Easter but this felt like a timely opportunity.
I'm so sick of not being able to do my job properly and that being okay. It's not okay that kids are failing because I'm trapped in a taped out box which is utterly pointless, and it's not okay that some of my colleagues are using all this an excuse to be even more useless than normal.

CallmeAngelina · 27/11/2020 18:54

I have pointed out on that Scottish close Christmas whatever shite it's called thread, that any "remote" learning in the run-up to breaking up will be infinitely preferable in terms of education than the shite that will be on offer in school. (Might have phrased it a bit better than that, but have now hit the wine). After all, we can't exactly post on Google Classroom, "Watch Elf" because I have some paperwork to get on with.

Hercwasonaroll · 27/11/2020 18:57

Oh MrsH I feel for you so much.

Teaching is bad enough when your personal life is a mess. Never mind corona.
Do you want to change school or just leave altogether?

My week has ended on a strange high (no real reason for it, Rome is burning in the background but I'm eerily calm).

CallmeAngelina · 27/11/2020 18:58

But of course, those against closing early aren't the slightest bit concerned with "education," just childcare.

And for the record, I don't want to close early either. I actually like the run-up to Christmas, even during Covid.

CallmeAngelina · 27/11/2020 19:00

Sorry, MrsH, cross-posted there.
Really sorry to hear you're feeling so low.

MrsHamlet · 27/11/2020 19:05

I've been offered a job in a school in Moscow 😂

DollyMixtureLulus · 27/11/2020 19:07

Buy the shoes MrsH Flowers

ChloeDecker · 27/11/2020 19:07

@MrsHamlet

I've been offered a job in a school in Moscow 😂
Oooooh! Interesting!
Cantaloupeisland · 27/11/2020 19:09

@CallmeAngelina on the Scotland schools thread they seemed more concerned with the idea of an extra few days after Xmas than rather than before - cos you know, they'll have done all their fun family mixing by then and will need the childcare!

Well, if you have to wear a furry hat and boots in a UK classroom at the moment anyway, why the fuck not! Grin
CallmeAngelina · 27/11/2020 19:21

@MrsHamlet, you might want to re-think your shoe purchases if you're going to move to Moscow!
How about these:

@CallmeAngelina they're not very me!! Maybe the head is right and it's a bad idea.

PumpkinPie2016 · 27/11/2020 19:45

@MrsHamlet sorry to hear thatFlowers definitely buy the shoes!

Could you try negotiating to leave at Feb half term? I know it's another half a term but sooner than Easter?

MrsHamlet · 27/11/2020 19:47

That's more like it, Angelina

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/11/2020 19:49

Sorry to hear that @MrsHamlet I wanted to thank you again for the Teams guide. Ran some more training for all our staff again and it really helped me with some bits (eg made me look like I know what I’m doing 🤣🤦‍♀️)

Do you want to go to Moscow to work?

TheHoneyBadger · 27/11/2020 19:50

There'll always be jobs in Moscow mrsh. I get sent international school jobs regularly and there's great jobs every year if you do want to go down that road.

No big decisions right now I'd say. Hard time even without home problems. Be nice to yourself this weekend

FrippEnos · 27/11/2020 19:52

MrsHerculePoirot

Do you want to go to Moscow to work?

she could go by mule

(I'll get my coat)

CallmeAngelina · 27/11/2020 19:53

What are you planning to do that's nice this weekend, @MrsHamlet?
For yourself (forget schoolwork for a bit).

Augustbreeze · 27/11/2020 20:06

That new guidance thingy upthread:

Interesting that they say they could apply measures in a "cluster of settings" (as well as larger areas).

Am wondering why they've even bothered publishing it really. Given that they've just said about the decision "Hands off it's ours and only ours to make, so F off and play somewhere else, local public health!"

Unless they suspect they'll have to use it?

hedgehogger1 · 27/11/2020 20:08

I contacted "full fact" the fact checking people to ask them to look into the claim that teachers are at no higher risk than other professionals. I know so many school staff with COVID now. Inc one that's been in hospital for a couple of weeks. It can't possibly be true. I pointed out that I believe the data was based on when schools still had very low numbers in. Maybe if more people ask them it will move up their priority list

Augustbreeze · 27/11/2020 20:09

(Am I being naive again?)

@MrsHamlet just as long as you can still drop into the Staffroom from the USSR! Sorry to hear things are that bad. And monkey and anyone else feeling it tonight.
