You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@TheHoneyBadger

I also noted that initial exams are expected to be in first two weeks of July then alternative sittings soon after for those who were ill and then teacher/school generated grades for those who are absent from both sittings due to illness.

They get that we break up in July don't they? We had a really early September start this year. I haven't checked the school calendar but I'm assuming we'll be breaking up around 23rd July. Not sure how these plans fit or whose going to be staffing the second chance exams or being in school after them to generate marks for students who don't attend any of these exams.

Exactly the discussion I've been having with DH this morning.

@DreamingofBrie

Got an appointment to give blood today. I was filling in the questionnaire and have had to tick "yes" for two questions - flu jab less than 8 weeks ago, and whether I've been in contact with someone with infectious illness within past 2 weeks (child in one of my classes tested positive last week). Will be interesting to see whether they let me donate today.
I had a very frustrating experience with this recently, was trying to be tested to see if could donate convalescent plasma - travelled for over an hour only to find out the negative Covid test I'd had 13 days previously meant I couldn't even enter.

Absolutely NO warning of this in either the email and attached documents they'd sent me beforehand, or the in-person phone call the previous week. Was not impressed.

DreamingofBrie · 03/12/2020 11:13

NHS Blood said it was ok for me to go in for my donation, provided I had not been asked to self-isolate, and that I felt well in myself, so I'm due in half an hour! I as a bit surprised but they said I'm to inform them immediately if I develop symptoms after giving blood.

They might still turn me away at the centre (remember being turned away once when I had a cold), but we'll see.

Hello everyone!

I found Gavin.

I have now told him to go away and have a bit of a lie down as he seems remarkably flustered at the prospect of having to do his job.

Bless him.

ThrawnCow · 03/12/2020 11:24

Gavin's a twat, but should we actually be worried about him? His "we're a much better country than them" comment is positively Trumpian.

Whereisgavin · 03/12/2020 11:28

That's why we should worry!

If you are in Scotlandthrawn , you can rest a bit more easy (can you?? I hope so.)... I, for one, feel vvvvv anxious. I do hope Teacher Tapp asks us how we feel!!

ChloeDecker · 03/12/2020 11:30

Regarding having a listen of topics, I find it very annoying that they won’t be available to us until the end of January. More potential time wasted.

They expect us to implement something with a day’s notice but funnily enough everyone else gets more respect.

ThrawnCow · 03/12/2020 12:46

Not in Scotland, Whereisgavin. Maybe I should be Grin

Mistressiggi · 03/12/2020 13:10

Ffs no extension to time off for Scottish schools at Christmas. I have nothing left to give, the bastards

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 03/12/2020 13:29

Perhaps we could start by having one of these much better people we’ve got as education secretary.

GravityFalls · 03/12/2020 13:45

Like @Piggywaspushed, I’ve been wracking my brain to see how these proposals help me in film...I can’t see how they do at all. In fact even less than in English - it’s not as if, knowing that, say, they’ll ask about lighting or something in one film means you don’t have to cover any other aspect of the film! You’d still have to link it to themes, choices of the director, mise en scene blah blah. Unless you teach a specific essay question to death until they know it by heart, but then everyone will do that, so...where’s the benefit! Much better would be to say students only need to do two out of three sections on a paper instead. Along with the useless NEA adaptations this is just another sign they’re clueless about some subjects.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/12/2020 13:59

I failed at staying off the work laptop. Magically hours disappear. Must do better.

Whereisgavin · 03/12/2020 14:00

Oh really thrawn. Your username tricked me!

Medra · 03/12/2020 14:14

@TheHoneyBadger We finish on 16th July this year (officially the 21st but we have three INSETs)

DollyMixtureLulus · 03/12/2020 16:20

I've came home early for a wee cry. I'm so disappointed. They've not got a fucking clue what it's like facing a class any day of the year, never mind on the 22nd December.

I'll be on my own now for Christmas. I'm absolutely gutted.

Mistressiggi · 03/12/2020 16:22

Aw Dolly I'm so sorry. Sad You are not the only one, people all round my place upset and angry.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/12/2020 16:22

Sorry dolly!

Just checked and we close on 16th July also.

They are so incompetent.

DollyMixtureLulus · 03/12/2020 16:25

Thank you. I had got my hopes up about going to my parents, that was all.

I'm starting the Christmas movie-a-thon tomorrow in revenge.

eitak22 · 03/12/2020 16:25

@DollyMixtureLulus I am so sorry. That bloody sucks and yet other people get to have their Christmas.

Piggywaspushed · 03/12/2020 16:37

I am guessing Gav will be put back in his cupboard/punishment room again now:

www.theguardian.com/society/2020/dec/03/gavin-williamson-britains-a-much-better-country-than-all-of-them

Piggywaspushed · 03/12/2020 16:39

gravity , I Exocet the board to passively aggressively restate the topic areas for each film.

I am actually very disappointed by their lack of fighting spirit. I don't think they understand the issues at all.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/12/2020 16:39

Williamson said he was not surprised the UK was the first to roll out the immunisation because “we’re a much better country than every single one of them”.

What an absolute dick.

flumposie · 03/12/2020 16:40

Who do they expect to sign up to mark the exams late in July ?Geat way to spend August after the shitshow flung at us this year.

Piggywaspushed · 03/12/2020 16:46

Exocet!? wtaf spellcheck?

MrsHamlet · 03/12/2020 16:57

If I can't go to Azerbaijan, I'll mark 😢
