You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Consequentially?

PumpkinPie2016 · 30/11/2020 06:12

Morning everyone Smile

Another week here we come! Feeling tired today Sad honestly, I could sleep for a week. Realised I need to start getting organised for Christmas too and I don't have the energy.

monkeytennis97 · 30/11/2020 06:23

@PumpkinPie2016 feeling the same x 5 weeks without DS is feeling never ending. DH has some health issues too and investigations about that this week.

You guys are keeping me going! X

PumpkinPie2016 · 30/11/2020 06:28

Aww @monkeytennis97 I really can't imagine how hard it must be for youFlowers I hope you get to see DS soon!

lurchersrule · 30/11/2020 06:29

Hope everyone has a good week - can't believe we have another 3 to go...

I'm not sure making lit open book would be that good for us. Some students in my school would definitely benefit, but they'd probably be the able, well-motivated ones who would do well anyway. The rest (majority) would see it as a reason not to revise and then spend the exam time flicking aimlessly/frantically through the book looking for vaguely remembered quotes that are from the film anyway. And Noble's point does stand - if they don't know the themes/characters/how to analyse language and structure, then having the book there won't help. They're allowed slightly misremembered quotes/paraphrases and specific examples anyway. Grr, I'm sick of all this bloody tinkering.

I do so little work yesterday and now feel like I'm going to pay for it today, though lessons are planned, just not very exciting.

I liked the quote about Platoon - I'm going to play it out in my head today...

MrsHerculePoirot · 30/11/2020 06:29

Morning... here we go again....

Can’t help with the grammar sorry - it all confuses me when my kids have homework like that...

Danglingmod · 30/11/2020 06:31

And if they allow books in the exams, schools might need some notice/money to purchase unannotated copies?!

Danglingmod · 30/11/2020 06:32

Yeah, don't ask secondary English bods re the ks2 grammar. Most of it is made up and never referred to ever again.

Piggywaspushed · 30/11/2020 06:33

I have never heard of this made up adverb! Adverbs are time, manner, place and are confusing enough as it is!

Piggywaspushed · 30/11/2020 06:34

dangling, surely they can't suddenly insist on plain copies, too?? Theses are the sorts of issues they won't have thought about...

namechangedyetagain · 30/11/2020 06:34

Yay. Monday. Two weeks left of placement 1, which has been interesting to say the least. Don't feel I have the energy and still have an essay to write before next week, a moderation visit with tutor and an evidence file to prepare.

Im not sure I can do this.

Hope everyone has a good week and stays safe.

RobertsUncle · 30/11/2020 06:35

Barber playing in the background- quite soothing. Might see if it calms down my little ragamuffins this morning.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 30/11/2020 06:35

Marking grammar assessments week. We learn that adverbs often end with 'ly'

Q. Add an adverb to the sentence.

He waved at his friend .

Child's answer- Kelly

Grin
Piggywaspushed · 30/11/2020 06:36

Brilliant! Grin

plasticboxesrock · 30/11/2020 06:42

Kelly! Love it!

We were on subordinating and co-ordinating conjunctions last week. So confusing. But I had fun in my head making up inappropriate ones -
"Johnson refused to accept statistics about school transmission ALTHOUGH they were backed up by scientists".
"Brexit is pointless AND expensive".

Wink
Danglingmod · 30/11/2020 06:54

Well, some schools I know don't even let bottom sets look at the book itself. They just teach a few quotes by rote, so they're not going to know what to do with a copy of the book, are they?

Piggywaspushed · 30/11/2020 06:56

God, don't tell Gove!! That is exactly what he was trying to stop.

We get kids to buy their own copies and so they are covered in notes.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 30/11/2020 07:04

I was getting my lower lot to recognise sentences that needed a question mark. Without exception, all 6 of them wrote yes to the question, 'Do you like pizza'. They were just mean to add the ?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 30/11/2020 07:07

God bless teaching in Wales. Yes, we have to teach Welsh as a second language, but we don't have to teach all that spag! We obv teach the usage of them but don't have to bother with all the confusing terminology.

starrynight19 · 30/11/2020 07:16

Morning all well that’s me tested positive. As I’ve been in isolation due to school for over a week this has categorically come from school.
Hope this week is kind to everyone.

Piggywaspushed · 30/11/2020 07:20

Oh, hope you are OK starry.

Hercwasonaroll · 30/11/2020 07:25

Oh no starry, hope its a mild dose.

Another member of staff positive here plus two students over the weekend. What fall in infections?

MsAwesomeDragon · 30/11/2020 07:28

I hope you're ok starry. Flowers

Piggywaspushed · 30/11/2020 07:44

Well, the drop in infections is probably caused by my area, where no one gets tested , even if they sound like they have whooping cough, with a dose of the medieval sweating sickness, have the trots and couldn't smell a skunk at a pig farm.

I literally had a boy coughing all over my room on Friday while a boy sat along from him pressed his book to his head because he was too hot...

ChloeDecker · 30/11/2020 07:49

Oh starrynight no! Sending a solidarity fist bump (we don’t need to socially distance now right!?) We can isolate together
