You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@Piggywaspushed

Lummy, noble, there are 9 pages already!!
Lummy? Now, there's a word I haven't seen since my Enid Blyton-reading days.
ChloeDecker · 29/11/2020 16:43

@Augustbreeze

Sorry to hear that Chloe. Rashes have been on other countries' symptom lists for 6 months or so, just not the UK's ......
It’s so itchy and like my skin is on fire!

Feeling a little bit sorry for myself!

That and I’ve taken out another teacher (my DH) from another school. Adding to what I feel is a crisis in schools.
This all sucks, eh!?

Piggywaspushed · 29/11/2020 16:45

Always happy to oblige ange. I can do a 'golly' and a 'cor' too, if you like!

Piggywaspushed · 29/11/2020 16:46

Lawks, hope you are OK chloe

CallmeAngelina · 29/11/2020 16:50

I still say Blimey and Crikey.

I keep finding that Noble's new bunfight thread has disappeared off my 'Watched threads' list. Anyone else?

Piggywaspushed · 29/11/2020 17:03

I had that with another thread. No idea why.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 29/11/2020 17:08

Blinkin' Nora is mine. I should probably check it doesn't have a dodgy history.

Hope you're feeling OK Chloe.

I am happy about that BBC article - another one for me to send to my MP. Ha.

Augustbreeze · 29/11/2020 17:10

Yes I was delighted to 'hear' lummee!

Govt advice for all festive activities:

www.gov.uk/guidance/guidance-for-the-christmas-period#attending-events-including-performances-and-christmas-lighting-ceremonies

Nativities with audience allowed in tier 1 and 2 (as long as the magic bubbles aren't crossed); a bit late notice for most primaries I'd imagine!

Piggywaspushed · 29/11/2020 17:14

Yeah rule almost certainly misogynistic and possibly anti Irish ... crikey o'reilly...

It's funny how one goes all English when being euphemistic.

I can't actually think of a Scots equivalent, although DSM says jings.

starrynight19 · 29/11/2020 17:16

Oh no Chloe hope your all ok Flowers

Piggywaspushed · 29/11/2020 17:19

Mildly diverting:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-24669828

Flamin/ bloody/bloomin Nora seems to be of unknown derivation according to internet.

I might take up 'zounds'. See if it catches on.

DreamingofBrie · 29/11/2020 17:31

@TheHoneyBadger

Oh her other concern was people not moving to one side on the path through a lovely park they've been walking in and how all the people who didn't move were speaking foreign languages HmmWay too much time on their hands.
I know your "meh"- feeling, Angelina, feeling it here too. Been out for a 90 minute Pokemon Go walk with ds and have a few bits and bobs to finish off, just a lesson to complete and copying reports across to the reporting system. And two emails to send to parents who couldn't get everything in on their 5 minute slot at parents' evening last week. But because I put the laptop away to go on the walk, I can't face getting it out again.

Just quoting HoneyBadger here because this was just the experience I had a few weeks ago, before lockdown! Having my usual walk in the park with 2 friends, none of us are white. A couple of women walked towards us with their dogs, so we fell into single file and did the usual polite smiling thing. I swear one of the women did what can only be described as breast-stroke style arm flapping at us with a strange look on her face, whilst not actually saying anything! They didn't get into single file though, we ended up walking off the path to let them past. Strange women....

Saucery · 29/11/2020 17:31

A lot of pseudo-swearing began as a way of swerving away from blasphemy in case someone overheard you. By Our Lady becoming Bloody, etc. Crikey could come from Christ, perhaps?
I haven’t got over the derivation of Sweet Fanny Adams yet, after reading where it came from Shock

I am feeling very down and resentful today, about Tiers, and other people’s behaviour continuing this endless cycle of shite, so I’ll just sit quietly in a corner and rein it in.
I’ve just started a book about the history of drunkenness. It’s a bit light and fluffy but diverting enough.

Hope you recover with no more debilitating symptoms, Chloe although I know how tormenting a rash can be. I don’t think antihistamines are contraindicated in the treatment of Covid, if you haven’t tried that yet?
When I suspect I had Covid back in Feb one of the symptoms was an itchy rash on my head. Little welts and blisters.

DreamingofBrie · 29/11/2020 17:32

Hope you and dd are feeling better soon, Chloe Flowers.

CallmeAngelina · 29/11/2020 17:47

It's gone again!
Angry

MrsHamlet · 29/11/2020 17:54

Blimey Chloe
I have taken up "spiffing" for really good work recently.

ChloeDecker · 29/11/2020 17:59

Thanks all!

I’ve been taking an antihistamine each morning Saucery regardless, just to take the edge off but it’s not easing that much!

Should be grateful I’m not coughing and having trouble breathing. My poor kid though. She will have had weeks and weeks off school.

starrynight19 · 29/11/2020 18:16

Chloe that’s the thing how much our own kids will suffer Sad never mind the higher risks they have with being in schools right now it’s double whammy for them if they have parents who work in schools as well.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 29/11/2020 18:21

I am full of admiration at the way in which some of you can reply on other threads and not lose your temper. Thank you all of you for helping to keep me going and making me laugh. Everything is getting harder and I can’t even think about the aftermath of Christmas. Meh, indeed. Hope you feel better soon, chloe.

Frlrlrubert · 29/11/2020 18:26

Another Sunday another time consuming parent email.

I'm thinking there should be a 'before you email the teacher' FAQ on our website.

  1. if you child has been self isolating they should do the work that has been set.
  2. if they haven't, they probably can't do the set homework.
  3. doing the work set should help with this
  4. do the work.
  5. if they haven't, they personably can't revise for the test.
  6. doing the work will help.
  7. do the work.
  8. if you email the teacher, they will direct you to the work they set for this exact scenario.
noblegiraffe · 29/11/2020 18:27

Noble's new bunfight thread

My whatnow? I start threads with graphs and statistics. Least bunfighty threads ever. 😇

noblegiraffe · 29/11/2020 18:29

Get well soon,Chloe, look after yourself and do everything you need to recover properly.

PumpkinPie2016 · 29/11/2020 18:54

Take care @ChloeDecker

Managed to do quite a lot of planning today which is good.

So tired though and a parents eve this week Confused Hoping this week will be easier than last though - I honestly got to Wednesday and considered giving up to go and work in Asda!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 29/11/2020 18:54

Oh we keep getting emails from parents/phone calls about work to do for children isolating or waiting for family test results etc.

a) look at the class webpage
b) ask your child about the class webpage we use it every day to look at work
c) read the emails about what to do when children are off - clue: look at the class webpage
d) do what the office staff said when you called in: look at the class webpage
e) read the massive scrolling message on the school website- the message that tells you to look at the class webpage.

Aaagh.

Loshad · 29/11/2020 19:44

So we have sent all of year 11 home for 2 weeks, 8 cases so inevitable, but they have mocks, so they are being trusted to do some mocks at home, but for my subject will do on the final Wednesday of term.
I feel really sorry for the kids, but am also underwhelmed at the thought of having to mark 60 100mark papers over the holidays
