You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Did you allude to a recurring bad smell on the teacher bashing threads? That could have been it. Sensitive little flowers are those nasty whiffs Hmm

TheHoneyBadger · 18/11/2020 17:50

Blimey! Literally someone must have reported me for a joke!?

Thanks for happy birthdays. I didn't have to provide cake because it was my day off and I didn't mention it to anyone Grin However I mentioned it in a year 7 lesson today and they all spontaneously sang happy birthday to me. So cute!

Still boggled at being reported and deleted for a joke. Sorry if it offended anyone but ??

No new cases today, sung to by a class and trainee did a pretty passable lesson so not bad

Aah! Yes I forgot I mentioned a sea dweller. Wow. Lurking much

@Piggywaspushed

So, I ahve new reading glasses and I can't fucking see.
Oh no! My glasses fell of my face and into the footwell as I was strapping DD in. Longest 5 mins ever in the nursery car park trying to find them (they'd gone the opposite way to what I'd thought). DH is away and my prescription is +6. I had (blurry) visions of having to call the in laws for a rescue!
Butmiss · 18/11/2020 17:52

Rubbish day.
I've been off sick for 2 days with a headache and tiredness (none of the main symptoms). I was back in today and the WhatsApp parent group was mad apparently. Parents were demanding to know whether I had covid and complaining that they weren't being taught properly while I was away (not true). Luckily one of our lovely TAs in our phase has a child in my class and set them straight, but it took all my energy to smile and be polite this morning. Sad

Possums4evr · 18/11/2020 18:01

Honey please don't worry that anyone who knows you was offended by that!

starrynight19 · 18/11/2020 18:26

Well I never I actually got a reply from my mp after going onto his Facebook page and asking why I hadn’t hear anything. He said he fully understood all my comments about schools and was going to pass them onto Gavin and let me know his reply. Absolutely nothing like some of those bot reply’s people have had. He must know where Gavin is hiding ??

Another year 11 group gone from dd school. Half of them out now. This prompted the nicest letter from the headteacher saying that they had been impacted the most in the school with regards to cases and how she shares their worries and frustrations and how the lack of information from the government was compounding this. It actually really reassured my dd and it just made me realise how desperately hard schools are trying to support the kids right now.

Butmiss take care sounds like your run down. Unbelievable some of these parents rather than concern for you it’s about how they perceive their child is being educated whilst your not there Hmm.

Did you go to specsavers?

Or was it a quick drive to Barnard Castle? Xmas Wink

Piggywaspushed · 18/11/2020 18:27

I thought you called us fuckers Grin

I have never had a post deleted Halo . Do they not contact you to tell you off??

Could you ask them why?

I wouldn't be able to contain myself and would mention to a few how concerned I was about the content .... but I guess that might land your TA in hot water

I would definitely be cool to parents but not to the children.

But that's me - I no longer put up with any passive-aggressive shit at school - from students, from parents, or from SLT. I can get another job.

Us4Them aren’t getting much traction on here any more are they? Most people have figured out they’re wrong.

Can’t believe Honey called us fuckers. There’s never any reason to stoop to swearing and it gives a bad impression of teachers. Tut.

TheHoneyBadger · 18/11/2020 18:39

Thanks possom. I was pretty confused till reminded I mentioned fish. Bit of a stretch to delete what I said but meh.

Little wave to any everyone4us lurkers.

MsAwesomeDragon · 18/11/2020 18:41

Wow honey, I wish I'd never said happy birthday now I know you called us fuckers Wink.
I'm called worse than that by dh all the time (in an affectionate way, don't worry about me, he's just a sweary man in general). And occasionally I'm called worse than that by a pupil (taken very seriously, not an everyday occurrence at all!!). I don't know anyone who would genuinely take offence at a cherry "fuckers".

This really pisses me off. Over a million tests a week going unused - how much safer could schools be made with those?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 18/11/2020 18:50

That’s why I’m now encouraging anyone who thinks they might need a test to lie, salty.

The government are claiming that they have a capacity 500,000 tests a day. The daily released figures show a lot less than that being used. So I figure there’s plenty of capacity for a few ill people without the 3 qualifying symptoms to get tests.

Unless the government are lying about the capacity. But I can’t believe they’d do that, right?

Augustbreeze · 18/11/2020 18:51

According to posters on the BRTUS page, U4T have been infiltrating it and being horrible (I paraphrase) to them!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 18/11/2020 18:51

Well this evening I am celebrating the fact that I've actually failed a child. Well, failed to protect them from parental influence. My biggest behaviour challenge is now on a part time timetable, and will have 1-1 the whole time they're in school. Usually I'd be beating myself up about not having done the right things, but a) in front of the child/parent/senco I literally felt nothing. Was thinking about the kids I can actually tackle now that this one isn't there, b) now I'm home I'm actually really happy.

Had a run in with a lazy member of staff too, got cross with them, and again felt nothing at all. Should apologise, but won't.

So, well done 2020, you've made me a slightly shitter teacher. Yay.

noblegiraffe · 18/11/2020 18:53

They seem to have got a second wind on here too. Easily recognisable though as they haven’t changed the record in the slightest since the summer.
Danglingmod · 18/11/2020 18:54

Oh, Rule. That's tough.

I know what you mean, though. I give much less of a shit now. When your own government hates you, and most people in society are so fucking selfish, what's the point?

Stepawayfromtheminirolls · 18/11/2020 18:55

Email from HT today implying that if we follow the risk assessment (2m or at least 1m+) then we shouldn't worry about catching covid in school. I'm tempted to make myself a hoop with a 2m radius and walk around school with it just to highlight how irrelevant the risk assessment is to daily teaching. I'm already known for interesting work wear choices, I reckon I could get away with it...

noblegiraffe · 18/11/2020 18:55

If it’s the first step in getting them to more suitable provision then it’s not a failure. Unfortunately we need to be seen to fail for anything to happen that needs to happen.

Same, especially parents of under 18s.

For anyone who is worried about lying, at the test centre I went to, they really try to minimise contact with staff (obviously)- no-one will check you have a temperature or whatever.

noblegiraffe · 18/11/2020 18:57

I told someone on MN to lie to get a test for their kid then someone else came on the thread whinging about wasting precious tests. Good to see there are plenty to spare.

Butmiss · 18/11/2020 19:09

Thanks @StaffAssociationRepresentative and @starrynight19. Normally I just brush that sort of silliness off, but it did get to me today. Having two parents who work in the school can be useful at times, at least they set the other parent straight in the group chat.
