You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Our Head has told parents to look out for symptoms that are common in children but do not appear in the Top 3. I hope they take the hint.
I think quite a few are getting their children tested because it means the child can come back before 14 days. There’s still a bad cold circulating but it only lasts a few days. I really feel for working parents and most of them are trying their absolute best to support the school and keep their jobs.

Piggywaspushed · 18/11/2020 19:18

I did not go to Specsavers. I, in fact, went to a very expensive optician.

Would have been cheaper to go to Barney.

Augustbreeze · 18/11/2020 19:27

Poor piggy!

My tiny cough this morning seems to have disappeared, phew......

What's happening in other school's sixth forms re what they do in frees? Ours have just been banned from the common room after repeated warnings about crowding: they now have nowhere to socialise apart from a couple of small seminar rooms which have to be booked. Not sure how that's going to go.

noblegiraffe · 18/11/2020 19:29

Our sixth formers have been encouraged to go home for frees where possible. We’ve got a study centre but space is now restricted.

SmileEachDay · 18/11/2020 19:31

Half my Y 9 class off - but not as a group, just individuals self isolating.

Ditto Y11.

How the actual fuck am I supposed to get them through the curriculum? Whilst they’re off like this they are all missing different bits - and whilst I upload everything onto Teams, they don’t catch up.

namechangedyetagain · 18/11/2020 19:38

I've survived today! Just waiting for my ready meal to ping and then it will be time for food.

Tonight I'm doing bugger all apart from read through some science end of topic tests that I might be able to use.

I think my lesson obvs went ok earlier, waiting for the strengths / areas for development to come through. But one child came up to me at the end and said thank you MrsName that was the best science lesson we've ever had! Clearly she was exaggerating but it made the sleepless night worth itSmile

MrsHamlet · 18/11/2020 19:39

Ours are allowed in the common room because they tend to travel a long way in unreliable public transport. Masks in common room (but no one checks) How we've not lost them yet is beyond me.

Sureitwillbegrand · 18/11/2020 19:39

Our sixth form is currently at home due to cases so online teaching for next couple of weeks. I am on my last day of self isolation got negative test result yesterday more for my own piece of mind as didn't want to go back asymptomatic!

Belated birthday @TheHoneyBadger and you are all amazing. I have only just managed to plan and sort cover while off I'm not sure how I am going to cope when I go back tomorrow.

Augustbreeze · 18/11/2020 19:40

Well done @namechangedyetagain !!!!

monkeytennis97 · 18/11/2020 19:41

@Augustbreeze ours only come in for lessons.

SaltyAF · 18/11/2020 19:44

I had a test today. My temp is only mildly raised but DC has one so we're having to SI anyway. I also recently spent two hours with someone in my front row who tested positive later in the week. Granted it was slightly out of the two days but who's to say their symptoms weren't ignored for a day before they decided to test? I don't trust anyone to have my back now so I'm putting myself first.

Augustbreeze · 18/11/2020 19:50

Many of ours bus in so can't pop home.

SmileEachDay · 18/11/2020 19:50

Glad to hear it Salty

And well done name!!!

Also - apparently Honey called us all fuckers

twinkletoesimnot · 18/11/2020 20:04

First case in our school today 😢

WhyNotMe40 · 18/11/2020 20:08

Waves weakly to everyone.

I'm fed up. I've had it up to here
I'm just so knackered. I'm covering for sick colleagues to help out the school as sort of supply so I'm not part time anymore. But I was part time for a reason, and it is starting to have an effect.

Also - is it me, or is this lockdown not working? All I can see is graphs still going up. Surely it should be working by now if it was going y?

WhyNotMe40 · 18/11/2020 20:10

Good luck Salty.
Noble - I know it's a bit late but I hope I didn't offend/upset you when I said the last thread title was a bit dramatic. Love the new title btw

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 18/11/2020 20:10

Took me until gone 5pm today to log behaviour, talk to parents, plan changes in provision. However, in between all the nonsense had some really good bits of learning with my class.

More popping at DHs school. His PPA was nabbed for cover and he will be teaching double classes for some of tomorrow. They have gone from no cases in school to barely functioning in less than a week. Loads of staff out at mine. Ds school ok for now but one of his best friends was off sick today so bracing myself. Almost want to message his mum to see if they are testing.

WhyNotMe40 · 18/11/2020 20:18

Headline here today "Number of COVID patients in the South West higher now than in the first-wave peak"
I would also wager that in my school we actually have more symptomatic people than in the first wave...

SmileEachDay · 18/11/2020 20:21

Ooh are you SW Why?

WhyNotMe40 · 18/11/2020 20:22

Ooh arr Wink. Somerset raised but now Bristol ish...

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 18/11/2020 20:29

I’m assuming that all the people coughing on the bus are very responsible people that have had a test. There’s at least 1 each way every day.

This obviously has nothing to do with the rising number of cases in my local area.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 18/11/2020 20:33

I’d be really surprised if the R number in the SW was anywhere near 1. It might not be quite as high as it was when we went into lockdown but I doubt the level is steady rather than still increasing.

plasticboxesrock · 18/11/2020 20:34

I'm in the SW too and our local infection rate, and numbers of bubbles popping and school cases, have gone up massively in the past 2 weeks.

No positive child (that I know of!) in our school yet but plenty off with positive parents.....

Most local secondaries have year groups out or close contacts (ha bloody ha) isolating for 2 weeks. My niece in yr 9 with her whole year group of 150 isolating as her school had them in so many different groups/sets that they couldn't identify who was close (this is not good).

WhyNotMe40 · 18/11/2020 20:38

It's just exploded in the last 2 weeks....

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 18/11/2020 20:39

SW definitely has more cases now than in first lockdown I reckon.
