You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

We've got our first whole year group sent home. Makes it all feel a lot nearer, even if it isn't IYSWIM.

Cake for you Honey. Happy Birthday!

Anyone else find it weird when its your birthday you have to feed people cake?

Happy birthday Honey 👏👏👏👏👏👏 Are you doing anything nice?

I spent my duty trying to disperse a group of Y10 boys who were pushing and shoving each other. Also squishing up to each other; grabbing each other’s faces; and all piling in to leap on each other.

It was, of course, just a laugh 😡
If I see ONE more picture of BoJo’s socially distanced classrooms I’m going to start setting fire to things.

I'm struggling. Lots of issues with HoD, but nothing I can solve. When I try to help I'm apparently undermining them. I can't do the right thing, whatever I do. I've had do CPD since I got there, and feel utterly trapped.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for jobs.

We have 1 yr group and 2 other " contact bubbles" off now, and a lot of staff SI or who have kids who are. This next few weeks is going to be hideous, isn't it?

Happy Birthday and thank you

You made me think of my mum, it was her favourite drink especially at Christmas.

Good times.

Happy birthday Honey out of interest do you take things into school when it’s your birthday ? It’s mine later this week and we normally put things in the staffroom. Ours is still open , it works as we all have staggered lunches , no break times. Just wondering what are ‘covid safe’ treats. Or maybe the covid magical school walls should mean anything goes.
Hope you have something nice planned this evening Smile

Can I ask what triggered sending a whole year group home?

We had the whole 6th form out for two cases before half term but currently have two cases in year 10 and just contacts sent home.

3 cases in that year about a week, two in the same form, don't know any more than that @Frlrlrubert.

Just read this posted on noble 's noble thread (see what I did there?):

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/nov/17/one-in-four-hull-children-absent-from-school-as-covid-cases-soar

I hadn't thought of the issue highlighted by Hull's Heads: they're saying the city's going to basically run out of keyworkers soon, because so many of them are off having to care for isolating children. If schools were 'closed', then keyworker children could go to school.

That does assume few/no positives in the keyworker/vulnerable bubbles that would be created however, doesn't it? Which might well be the case at least after a week or so.

Happy birthday Honey, hope it was a good un.

We normally bake cakes etc when it's our birthday. This year we're just buying individually wrapped goods so chocolates etc. Not quite the same but still gratefully received by everyone.

Happy Birthday Honey.

Individually wrapped goods or cupcakes rather than large cakes is what I think our infection control team recommended.

Solidarity, Guyfawkes. I'm in a similar position and it's upsetting to know that the rest of the dept just feel abandoned by a HoD focused on their agenda and nothing else. It grinds you down - hope you're ok. Feel free to PM if you want to vent.

We do sweets or cake when it's our birthday. Lots of Indian and Pakistani colleagues, so gorgeous sweets and things. This week has been very good for post Diwali gubbins.

I had a lush day. PPA all day, had to be in school (unlike other staff), but shut myself away in the school manager's office and worked solidly from 8am to 4pm, everything planned and resourced until the end of next week apart from one maths lesson. All SEN resourcing done too (inclusion is the stuff that makes me work in the evenings). Bit of English book monitoring done after school and tadaaa, I've earned my money for the week.
