You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@Frlrlrubert

I feel like there should be a way to report employers for encouraging people to break the guidelines.

It's one of the only bits that's been clear for a long time. You have one of those three symptoms, you isolate and get tested. Your boss should not be able to override that.

Yeah, if I was told not to test for just a cough, for example, I'd ask for that to be put in writing.

There ought to be a way to whistleblow.

I agree that anyone put in this situation should lie.

AllDoneIn · 17/11/2020 20:30

At least 15 cases in school that we know about across multiple year groups. No bubbles pulled. You wouldn't want to stop the Covid spreading after all.

Mistressiggi · 17/11/2020 20:31

So ds has come down and announced that as well as headaches he has a sore stomach, feels sick and just had diahorrea (only he didn't spell it like that as he's dyslexic, bless him). Are those Covidy signs in children? Obv I know they are not the three testable ones. I am so sick of this now.

HerdyGerdy · 17/11/2020 20:34

@Mistressiggi

The top five symptoms in school aged children who test positive for COVID are; fatigue (55%) headache (53%), fever (49%), sore throat (38%) and loss of appetite (35%). This was different compared to the App’s data on adults; fatigue (87%), headache (72%), loss of smell (60%), persistent cough (54%) and sore throat (49%). In addition to this, research from the app has also found that one in six (15%) children who test positive for COVID also present with an unusual skin rash.

Thanks Herdygerdy. So it's just the headache really, and there are lots of other explanations for that too much Fortnite
I'll check his temperature too.

Hello! Thought the other thread was quiet!

Happy birthday Honeybadger! Your post has been deleted?

Could be covidy signs in children. Could also be other stuff. Presumably he’s not likely to be in school tomorrow anyway so you could lie and get him a test.

Only problem is if it might technically mean your household has to isolate too.

MrsHamlet · 17/11/2020 20:43

@Mistressiggi those are all things on my list of things I have to call the vaccine trial people about because I might will probably need a test

Mistressiggi · 17/11/2020 20:45

Oh I'm the mean mum who always sends them in, it would mean a day off for me or dh when they're sick (he is probably old enough now to stay home alone, but raises all sorts of concerns re whether we should be in our schools and his sibling at primary.)
I feel awful too with stomach pain, again no top 3 symptom, and I feel pretty ill with anxiety these days anyway, hard to tell what's physical and what psychological!

starrynight19 · 17/11/2020 20:47

Mistressigi I would def keep an eye on those symptoms. Vomiting and diahorrea / headache / fatigue were the main symptoms in my sister before the cough came.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 17/11/2020 20:47

We've been told just to be sensible re symptoms - if we think we should test, get a test.

Our isolating children thing is daily contact. Policy says 15 mins teaching time during the school day, ideally 1-1. This is impossible, we've all ignored it. Any time I speak with a parent, they only want work to do in their own time and to be Team'd for story time or assembly.

Has your birthday been deleted?!

Happy birthday anyway! I hope there was plenty of cake!!

Danglingmod · 17/11/2020 20:49

Yes, my relatives who tested positive recently plus two/three colleagues all started with diarrhoea (not teaching colleagues, but back office).

Mistressiggi · 17/11/2020 20:54

Sorry but the "back office" reference sounds a bit related.. Smile

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/11/2020 20:54

Doesn’t It Always Run Really Horribly Over Each Ankle.

Admittedly had to google the mnemonic to remember what it was, so probably not helpful.

Mistressiggi · 17/11/2020 20:57

Right you guys are not helping with my stomach!!
I would be ok with getting him tested even though it would mean staying at home, I can see it being harder to persuade dh. Though if I booked a test he wouldn't have much choice. I'll decide soon.
Let's stop talking about diarrhoea when Honey is eating her cake!

Piggywaspushed · 17/11/2020 20:58

Oh, didn't know that one rafa!

My one is actually taught to nurses..

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 17/11/2020 20:59

@Piggywaspushed I have both blue and green paper towels that I can wet for you if you'd like a choice. I have also been allocated my own stash of plasters this year (covid perks!). They only measure about 0.5cm by 2cm but you are welcome to as many as you like.

@TheHoneyBadger Happy Birthday! You may have a share in the plaster stash too as your present if you like. (Never been allowed plaster administration powers before so I am getting a bit giddy!)

Piggywaspushed · 17/11/2020 20:59

back office . Snort.

MrsHamlet · 17/11/2020 21:00

I finally got my result from Saturday today. Good job I wasn't isolating whilst waiting...

Piggywaspushed · 17/11/2020 21:00

I shall bear in mind for the next time I fall over squashed. Likely to be soon.
