You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Do any English teachers in here want some resources?

It occurs to me we could help each other out.

I have some booklets I’m making that cover in school resources and are fab for home school.

So far:

Language paper 1 - 1984 extract
3 x Macbeth booklets

All with accompanying PPs

If it’s useful, send me your email and I’ll forward.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 21/11/2020 19:32

Sorry to hear people's rubbish news.

Had a very slow day today but did force myself to go out for a run. Haven't been for two weeks and don't want my hard won improved fitness to disappear.

DollyMixtureLulus · 21/11/2020 19:38

Just done some Christmas shopping on Paperchase and the 25% off for teachers was really easy to use. Would recommend.

Medra · 21/11/2020 19:50

Hope everyone’s having a good weekend. We could go out today now the child no longer has to isolate, so went for a lovely walk.
Now I am feeling rotten and am clearly made up with cold.

monkeytennis97 · 21/11/2020 19:51

Howdy all! Hope everyone has had a nice Saturday 😊 I've just gone for two walks and DH did his other job (he volunteers at our DS's old respite centre which he really enjoys).

Hercwasonaroll · 21/11/2020 19:59

@noblegiraffe Desmos Q, can you use the snapshot feature for remote learning? Or does it only work if you're displaying it on the screen in front of the kids.
Thinking about it I could just screen share on teams...!

noblegiraffe · 21/11/2020 20:07

I just shared my screen - paused Desmos so they couldn't work on it and brought them back to teams.

Smile Evening Lovelies Smile

So sorry to hear your worrying news MrsHamlet Flowers.

Good to hear some people have had a good day
I did a huge heap of marking that had been accumulating quarantining for a while, but then played board games with the kids, went for a walk with them, watched a dvd, ate too much chocolate, and just generally took things easy and relaxed.

SaltyAF · 21/11/2020 20:53

I am working my butt off to get most of my resit marking done this weekend. It's a relatively small quota and would be lovely not to have to carry it over to next weekend. Need to switch off with some snarky cross stitch and I'm a celeb now Smile

Best wishes to you MrsH.

MrsHamlet · 21/11/2020 20:58

Thanks, all. It's much appreciated. I did a tiny (laughable) amount of my paid marking, went for a bike ride and I'm now drinking wine and watching homeland. Has M&S party food for dinner because why the hell not .

SmileEachDay · 21/11/2020 21:09

I’m really interested to know how resits will go.

Hercwasonaroll · 21/11/2020 21:34

Interested to see pass marks for resit. I also want to see the papers but edexcel emporium released then unreleased them with no real explanation....

twinkletoesimnot · 22/11/2020 07:13

Sent home with my class for nearly the next 2 weeks.
Need to do 2 x 45 min slots of online teaching daily
Can supplement with whatever else, but oak being heavily pushed....
Been watching some of the videos.
I can't send them! They're dire! So babyish and so many mistakes.
WAnted to use a maths one but the array didn't match the number sentence.

Hercwasonaroll · 22/11/2020 07:25

Are you primary? The secondary Oak ones for maths aren't too bad. However we're using plenty of WRM and other maths stuff that's out there already.

twinkletoesimnot · 22/11/2020 07:47

Yes I'm primary.
I used WRM last lockdown but we've been told to do it differently now

PumpkinPie2016 · 22/11/2020 08:07

Morning everyone Smile

Flowers and Cake for those having a hard time.

I didn't sleep too well last night and I seem to have started grinding/clenching my teeth in my sleep Sad so, my jaws ache. Problem is, I am doing it in my sleep so it's hard to stop doing it. Must be stress relatedSad

About to have a cup of tea and then I will decide whether to run today or not. I should do really.

SmileEachDay · 22/11/2020 08:07

www.theguardian.com/education/2020/nov/21/is-gavin-williamson-the-worst-education-secretary-ever

Is our Gav the worst education minister ever? There’s stiff competition.....

Timeturnerplease · 22/11/2020 08:21

Please may I join - am primary, not secondary?

Sodding awful week with one bubble (class, we’re a one form entry village school) isolating for two weeks, and other classes with c7/8 children off respectively. Absolute nightmare trying to teach full time, cover break and lunch, clean classrooms AND manage online learning/daily phone calls home.

I’d love to say I’m taking the weekend to recover, but we also have an almost two year old DD...

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 22/11/2020 08:21

@twinkletoesimnot I'm primary. We are using WRM. If your school has a subscription the videos are really good. Using Joe Wickes on YouTube for PE. Doing a bit of mix for the rest. I agree that Oak is a bit cringey but that's what the government have funded and our SLT are saying so I'm going with it.

MsAwesomeDragon · 22/11/2020 08:25

Welcome timeturner. It's a completely shit time to be a teacher isn't it? That sounds like hard work for you Flowers

Pumpkin I grind my teeth in my sleep too. I wake up with a headache most mornings. The dentist plans to make me a mouth guard to wear overnight when everything's back to normal. It should help with the teeth grinding and reduce snoring apparently (I don't think I snore, but dh claims differently)

noblegiraffe · 22/11/2020 08:31

New thread that might encourage more teeth grinding I'm afraid

parrotonmyshoulder · 22/11/2020 08:47

Oak Academy for special seems well meaning and has some nice ideas, but my students and their parents can’t do it. I did find it useful when I was SI awaiting my own results (and feeling too ill to set work) as I sent lessons from it for my TAs to do in class. That was fine as they had the skills and resources.
I’m swimming/ drowning in child protection work that is not covid caused but it is a big factor in how well it has been supported and how it’s dealt with. Emergency so have had to set aside my weekend for it. I’m also very, very sad about it but am putting that to one side until it’s sorted. Well, it won’t be sorted really!

MrsHerculePoirot · 22/11/2020 08:49

@twinkletoesimnot DS is Y2 and when they were home for two weeks they used Wrm and oak. He absolutely loved the oak stuff for English and some of the others. We did do a RE one on Moses that had tears from some with all the murdering...😱

WhyNotMe40 · 22/11/2020 09:09

Parrot - sorry to hear that Sad

Morning everyone! I'm off for a run and then out for a walk with the family. I'm going to try to stay away from the main boards this week as well.

Thanks for starting that thread Noble!

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 22/11/2020 09:18

Welcome @Timeturnerplease

DH's school has gone from 0 student cases 10days ago to cases in all year groups but one today.
