You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on

Had a sore throat yesterday, even worse this morning, slept 14 hours have a banging head ache.

A pupil on my front row tested positive on Thursday. She said she felt ill Tuesday last lesson as I guided the class out of school.

I hope its just a cold. Shows mitigations not really working though.

HipTightOnions · 03/10/2020 10:36

I've just reported that last comment

Me too.

noblegiraffe · 03/10/2020 10:37

Riga have you checked your throat for white spots? May be tonsillitis?

Were you not told to isolate despite the front row?

Augustbreeze · 03/10/2020 10:38

@noblegiraffe to be more specific, that poster probably suspected it was EITHER you or the mountaineering father !

RigaBalsam · 03/10/2020 10:41

Cant see any spots yet.'

No not told to isolate. The girl was off on the Wed. I taught the class again. Had then again on the Thursday. Every 5 minutes during the lesson a pupil got taken to isolate as a close contact. Ended up with ten left in the lesson.

Apparently I am fine though because of the 2m and masks in the corridors when she spoke to me closely.

Augustbreeze · 03/10/2020 10:41

Yay it's been deleted!

noblegiraffe · 03/10/2020 11:02

Thanks folks!

Riga were you actually 2m from her or are they just assuming you were? I’m def not 2m from some of my front rows, including the kid I caught this sodding cold from.

Piggywaspushed · 03/10/2020 11:17

riga , get a test!!

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/10/2020 11:27

I'm not 2m away from my front rows when I've got a full class. I have quite a few small classes this year where I don't use the front row of desks, but in the 2 classes with 30, I have to use all the desks. Which means I'm about 1.5m away from them if I'm sitting at my desk. If any of them tested positive I really should be isolating as well as their classmates.

Riga get a test if you can!!!

RigaBalsam · 03/10/2020 11:47

Thanks all booked in for test as zoe app invited me too as well.

No not really 2m at all times. Ugh! I feel stressed.

noblegiraffe · 03/10/2020 11:53

Good luck Riga

Piggywaspushed · 03/10/2020 11:55

I was told our boxes were 2.5 m. Mine is 2.5 m WIDE, not deep. This just keeps me 2.5 m away from the door and a wall....

I had to reroom one class.

Saucery · 03/10/2020 11:55

My symptoms exactly, Riga. Headache is horrible! Just had the bizarre Drive Thru test experience in the pissing rain. 24-48 hours for results they said, so I’ll have it maybe for work on Mon, which is handy.

noblegiraffe · 03/10/2020 11:57

I don’t have a box. Kids wander right past me all the time to get to the bin, their seat, show me their work, whatever. And desks are def not 2m away.

noblegiraffe · 03/10/2020 11:57

My teacher friend got their result at 6:15am on a Monday after they’d given up and planned cover. Helpful.

Saucery · 03/10/2020 12:03

I didn’t know whether to let my Dep Head know I was waiting for results and may not be in, but I hate crossing the work/weekend boundary so I think I’ll leave it. No class to cover though, although I may be class cover. No one will thank me for taking this cough into school anyway, so either way I don’t think I’ll be in on Mon.

RigaBalsam · 03/10/2020 12:08

Thanks all Saucery I have text my HoD just to give her the heads up. The headache is awful.

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/10/2020 12:19

Oh no, wishing you both, saucery and riga, a swift result and fingers crossed it's not Covid.

Saucery · 03/10/2020 12:27

Thanks NW. I don’t know if I wish it was tbh. It’s manageable, I’d know I’d had it and I’d not go back until completely recovered, however long that was. I don’t deal well with uncertainty! Grin.

WhyNotMe40 · 03/10/2020 13:00

Sending Riga and Saucers get well soon vibes, and sympathy.
I feel shite as well today but I'm fairly sure it's a migraine (killer headache and nausea but no temperature). My small offspring aren't being very understanding (predictably) and are insisting that Daddy is not an adequate substitute (I am normally default parent).
Dd1 is also complaining of feeling ill as well (but she runs a temperature at the drop of a hat and always catches everything going). Her temperature is 37.6 though so not high enough to warrant the hassle of testing.
We are having a onesie and screens day....

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/10/2020 13:35

I don’t know if I wish it was tbh.

I get that. A small part of me might also think; this proves we aren't Covid safe. Add me to the stats. I'd also relish the ability to actually rest up with Dh looking after the kids (till they all got sick!) and not going back till I was fully better!

But even so, a bad case I wouldn't wish on anyone Thanks

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/10/2020 13:37

Thanks too why.

There's been a lot of killer headaches going around up here ( 🤔 ) another lovely virus?!

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/10/2020 13:41

I'm watching mathsconf. I've done 3 sessions so far, the best was the one on teaching compound measures with ratio and proportion. Dd has a friend who's just arrived (this is still allowed in our area)

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/10/2020 13:45

I get that you'd almost be happier if it IS covid. You'd have a definite answer as to what it is, you would know your need to definitely isolate and rest up, other people would hopefully be more sympathetic than if it's "just" another virus.

Saucery · 03/10/2020 14:04

Don’t know what your weather is like, WhyNot but a onesie and screens day is perfect for where we are, Covid symptoms or not!
