You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on

Got WallE on. Thick doorstep toast with proper butter and honey. Perfect Smile

Hope everyone is having a good day Brew

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/10/2020 14:28

Onsie and screens day sounds perfect to me. I don't own a onsie, but am wearing a very comfy hoody and my very warm slippers.

WhyNotMe40 · 03/10/2020 14:39

It's good to have a nurturing slobbing type of day occasionally Smile Cake
Thinking of making apple crumble for dessert if I can get in gear enough. Proper comfort food!

Mistressiggi · 03/10/2020 15:10

I've done bugger all today. It's raining but there's loads to get on with in the house, have still done nothing. Feeling very low and even crying a bit - hopefully there's some hormonal reason for it! But really at end of tether with going into work.

Mistressiggi · 03/10/2020 15:11

(I suppose things could always be worse - I could be at an online Maths conference! GrinGrin)

Have just looked on the thread about a friend suddenly cancelling coffee with a teacher because it's too risky!

HipTightOnions · 03/10/2020 15:55

I found that thread really sad Augustbreeze. Everyone is empathising with the friend and almost no one with the OP.

Augustbreeze · 03/10/2020 16:00

I was surprised at it, presumably most of those sympathising are still blithely sending their kids into these unsafe schools?

ChloeDecker · 03/10/2020 16:08

Exactly what I was thinking! If teachers are so at risk, as those on the thread suggest, why isn’t there more of an uproar over school safety/more support on Mumsnet on this issue?

I think we all know the answer though...

ohthegoats · 03/10/2020 16:50

I have been getting a whole head of highlights and am now watching Malory Towers with my 5 year old. She's super emotional at the moment, just very cuddly.

Keepdistance · 03/10/2020 16:51

I think its the coronavirus section where there are several throw kids back and anti maskers. The main section can give quite a different response.
In Wales i think they said 20% of kids werent in school. So there is a significant minority who are concerned with schools safety etc.

I wonder though if the person meeting was happy enough to be sat outside a coffee shop etc it's rained all day here.i guess too there's a difference slightly sending your kid to school (or be fined!) vs meeting a friend. Also the friend may believe that her kids are less likely to catch or pass on.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 03/10/2020 18:16

Got my flu jab.
Like sooo many other things, that was impacted by covid too. In and out. Jab given in lanes of people in the waiting area. Not a problem. BUT they didn't wipe down the injection site and the jab was given one handed, standing up by the nurse so not the most steady and pain-free flu jab I've ever had!

We have the mass flu nose spray in a few weeks at school - no idea how they are going to arrange that as it's usually all classes ferrying through the hall to have it, which will be a no no this year.

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/10/2020 18:42

I got my flu jab yesterday. Achey today.

Pissed it down all day; we've had a sorting out day. Moved furniture and chucked stuff. Kids have played lots (so more to clear up and sort out!) and now having a movie night.

Bil is a teacher has told Dh that 6000 pupils have been affected in Leeds (through bubbles closed.) 80 out of 260 (? Need to check) schools have been affected.

It must be similar in Newcastle and the NE if not worse; I'm not sure I know of a school that hasn't had a bubble pop.

Oi!! I quite enjoyed my online maths conference! Admittedly, as in real life, some of the sessions were better than others, but that was in regards to their relevance to me personally, rather than them not being good in general.

I hope you feel better soon mistressiggi and figure out if there's a hormonal reason for the tears.

I felt very sad for the teacher who's friend won't meet up with her. My friends are still just as happy to meet up with me as they ever were (ie I have no friends who aren't teachers at my school, lol).

We've got our year 7 flu sniff on Wednesday. They're going class by class to the main hall to allow for SD. I'm not quite sure where they normally do injections, but it's not the main hall. There are a few entrances/exits so the classes can be distanced, but they're all one bubble anyway so it is all fine in the risk assessments. I'll be going for my flu jab in 2 weeks time. It's a drive thru clinic in a car park, so that will be interesting.

Mistressiggi · 03/10/2020 19:03

Ah thanks MsAwesome, I'm actually on my way out to meet a friend for dinner so I can't complain - at least she is fine to meet me! Grin

ohthegoats · 03/10/2020 19:09

Anyone else just exhausted at the moment? I'm quite enjoying work atm, but I'm a write off at the weekends. Could go to bed right now. Maybe weather and new darkness also a factor, but zzzzzz.

I need to be part time. Might be an option for that to happen in April.

Piggywaspushed · 03/10/2020 19:11

Utterly so. Bopped on the head knackered.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 03/10/2020 19:19

Still waiting to be called for my flu jab. I can not believe in one breath MN is bemoaning that kids need to have Halloween trick n treating but then we have teachers being treated like lepers.

Off to drink wine

I'm knackered at the weekends. I can get through the week on adrenalin but Friday night comes and I'm exhausted. I too am appreciating the social interaction of being at work. It's just an exhaustion like I've never felt before.

FrippEnos · 03/10/2020 19:30

The flu jab scheme where I am has been postponed for the moment.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/10/2020 19:41

Yep shattered here. Have barely left my bed today. Luckily friend has step daughter over and invited ds to go to the cinema with them and they had dinner afterwards.

Think it is adrenaline through the week then zonk at weekend. Have lots of work to do but it has to wait till tomorrow.

How come kids get flu vaccine at your schools? I thought it was only elderly and vulnerable who got them?

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/10/2020 19:44

It's been available for primary kids for years honey, although I think your ds might be slightly too old to have ever had it. This year the year 7s are getting it as well, but only year 7 form tutors would know that at my school.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 03/10/2020 19:52

I had an afternoon nap today. Perfect for a rainy day. Still dithering in my head about rows or groups. Exhausted with all the worrying. Good luck to those with symptoms.

Keepdistance · 03/10/2020 19:57

I didnt realise yr 7 got them.
I booked one after talking to asthma nurse.
Tbh i would be happy to pay for one but they didnt seem to be doing it at the chemist as it's small.
It's hard logistically as the chance of the kids not getting ill and having to SI is probably low...

So was it Trump who infected the aide do you think. But it shows how contagious it is as several have it. But i assume not all have symptoms.
I cant believe the photos of the rally. As i assume it was inside
