You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

@monkeytennis97

I got told by a year 9 today,"Miss you're the only one (of the staff) who is taking this seriously"....
I’m getting this too. Some of my colleagues are in complete denial.
TheHoneyBadger · 08/09/2020 18:44

In normal times kids wouldn’t email teachers direct and expect work. We’d get an email from the year group pastoral office saying so and so is expected to be off for x (considerable) amount of time could you please forward work to us/add work to the shared drive we’ve created asap.

I’m expecting the same for isolating kids. We haven’t become their call order chef.

Appuskidu · 08/09/2020 18:46

A high school nearby had a positive case today and a year group now out for 14 days.

motherrunner · 08/09/2020 18:46

I was emailed 5 times during the day as I hadn’t responded.

MrsHamlet · 08/09/2020 18:49

@Augustbreeze

Oo how does one achieve a tan tattoo *@phlebasconsidered* ?
I also want to know this 🤣
Keepdistance · 08/09/2020 18:55

Are primary supposed to be eaving them in one desk? Dc now says been moved 3 times already no desk wiping. Seeing as dc2 is in yr r with all touching everything a bit immaterial. (She also seemed to think no handwashing when they go into school).

Tbh this is all worse than i expected as jun/jul not too bad. But then there are about 8x the kids.

SansaSnark · 08/09/2020 18:55

Today was pretty tough. We have moved SIMS to a remote server because reasons, and it crashed so no-one could save their registers.

I also went into a room P3 to find all the windows shut- and it was a warm day, too!

Masks in the corridors is already slipping and it feels like a lot of people are not bothering to enforce that either.

And had a kid in Y9 walk out at the end of the day because he refused to wait for the staggered finish time and be dismissed. So that's fun.

Medra · 08/09/2020 18:59

Oh my gosh. First full day of all the year groups in lessons rather than with form tutors. So many classrooms to teach in, so much chaos at changeover times. It was exhausting. I’m not sure I’m doing anything right as there’s been no training on what we can/can’t do in lessons, how to hand resources out etc.

ChloeCrocodile · 08/09/2020 19:03

how does one achieve a tan tattoo

When I was a teen, people would draw a shape in sunscreen on their body. Then the tan forms around it, leaving a white patch. They always looked rubbish!

phlebasconsidered · 08/09/2020 19:03

By placing a cut out of your football team symbol on your arm/chest etc and burning! Said non-red/brown patch is your tattoo! Classy and yet non-permanent.

My primary 6 class are 2 or 3 to a desk because we can't fit them in otherwise. It's daft. Primary school class sizes are massive now. I feel relatively relieved to have 32 after last year.

RigaBalsam · 08/09/2020 19:11

It's too close to home having a positive case in school. Set my anxiety off.

MrsHamlet · 08/09/2020 19:12

I've just swigged the wine I was cooking with straight from the bottle. This isn't a good sign, is it?

SaltyAndFresh · 08/09/2020 19:12

Just checking in. I'm too knackered to contribute.

phlebasconsidered · 08/09/2020 19:14

I have also drunk.on a school night.

Saucery · 08/09/2020 19:17

I had to enter, and work in, 3 bubbles today. Non-bubbly bubbles then. We have 5 staff off awaiting test results, all support staff. They are very much not ‘extra’ staff as we haven’t had any of those for about 5 years now. If they turn out to be positive then god knows what we’ll do.

WhyNotMe40 · 08/09/2020 19:18

I did that last night. Trying not to tonight! Tomorrow is going to be a loooong day with at least 2 different meetings after school. One an all-staff meeting.

WhyNotMe40 · 08/09/2020 19:20

I was referring to drinking alcohol, not entering bubbles. I have a magic forcefield that protects me from being part of any bubble I teach. Standard secondary teacher issue obvs.
I think my school are relying on the low rates in the area. But they are creeping up.

WhyNotMe40 · 08/09/2020 19:23

Wrt to alcohol - I used to barely drink. Have family with alcohol issues.
Then as term neared I started having a glass most nights. Then last week it was 2.
I know it's not the healthiest approach, but I also think it is a completely understandable maladaptive coping mechanism for the insanity we are coping with.
Roll on Friday and I'm necking a bottle to myself...

Keepdistance · 08/09/2020 19:30

Positive in a school 20min away. Rural not city. Secondary.
If 200 schools already thats 6k kids off already

noblegiraffe · 08/09/2020 19:32

I am not drinking on a school night, I am making myself a hot chocolate with marshmallows instead and pretending it will do.

monkeytennis97 · 08/09/2020 19:33

@HipTightOnions yup absolutely.

ohthegoats · 08/09/2020 19:38

First spitters today. Woohoo.

HipTightOnions · 08/09/2020 19:39

Sorry to hear so many are having a crap time. Flowers

I hope it’s not bad of me though, to be slightly reassured to hear the craziness is not confined to my school - at least I’m not imagining it.

noblegiraffe · 08/09/2020 19:39

My friend whose school has sent year groups home has said that they will be running live lessons from within the school according to the timetable.

My school is not at all set up for live lessons from the school site. No webcams or microphones.

So we can expect more WHY NO ZOOM LESSONS, OTHER SCHOOLS HAVE ZOOM LESSONS threads when people realise there's a disparity in provision again, this time for quarantining bubbles.

Medra · 08/09/2020 19:45

@noblegiraffe Our school has that as our plan, but we don’t have cameras or mics in classrooms and no info on how they expect us to deliver them. I’m not taking my personal laptop into work to do it.
