You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

Oh I hadn't noticed refs to U4T on there @NeurotrashWarrior , that name is perfect, esp as have just started re-reading HP!

Gin Gin Cake Cake Wine Wine

Just topping up the staff room supplies. Hope you’ve all managing to keep it together.

So scary the number of misconceptions /harmful attitudes out there (OK, on MN):

• "You have to have more than one of the main symptoms to get a test."

• "It's probably a cold - don't want to waste a test."

• Still some U4T type stuff - it's more important that children get back to normal than we worry about a virus which probably only killed those who were about to die.

• "Dominic Cummings did it, why can't I?"

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 08/09/2020 15:32

Dominic Cummings did it, why can't I?"

Because presumably he did it in a specific and limited way, which is today’s way you are now allowed to break the law. Good luck trying to enforce tighter measures in Bolton.

Augustbreeze · 08/09/2020 15:48

Have just read a new one on MN:

"You only need to test if you have a main symptom and it couldn't be caused by anything else"

Well, spread that one and the testing availability problem will vanish like magic! Problem solved.....

Unfortunately in march they were saying both fever and cough. So some people still have that in their head.
I think the most harmful things are
'masks dont help/they only help others'
gov not changing messaging that the reason masks work a bit at least is it's in the air. And which is more important. As there are so many saying - they will touch the mask making it pointless. But if surfaces dont transmit it.
Probably need to look at what they are doing. Tracing people within 2m for 15min. Not all the students say who may have been in a room before or after. Though some are deep cleaning.
Also if you said, ' i was chatting to xyz ourside for 15m at 1m' does that person have to isolate.
Hopefully not as i dont even know half the parents for reception yet.
My 70yo parents went in the bank as they think it's safe with masks on - its safer.

Also i think the ladder of risky things to do should be updated a bit.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 08/09/2020 16:09

First case since April/May at home now. Fortunately it was someone in quarantine (hopefully obeying it) so should be able to keep it under control.

Although I can see university return being a bit of a clusterfuck. Both here and there tbh.

Augustbreeze · 08/09/2020 16:13

Gosh some countries have handled things differently (from another thread):

"Very different here (Singapore). Anyone with respiratory symptoms is given a 5 day legally enforced ($10,000 fine) medical certificate where you cannot leave your house without a negative swab test." Respiratory symptoms apparently mean anything like a cold/cough.

And countries who tested all children immediately before school return.

RigaBalsam · 08/09/2020 16:20

It really annoys me how if you are in a pub with someone who is sat at a distance you have to isolate but if you in a class you don't as you are in your box at the front.

It is so STUPID! Ugh

Augustbreeze · 08/09/2020 16:21

Of course Singapore is a highly regulated society.

Saucery · 08/09/2020 16:43

Knackered again and smelling of bleach wipes. I think this must be my ‘new normal’. Grin

Myusername2015 · 08/09/2020 16:56

So both my toddler and I woke up with hacking coughs and temps today. My head was t best pleased. I had to drive 50 miles to a testing centre and was told they have a delay of up to 7 days for results. On hearing this my head said “well it’s probably just a cold always happens this time of year just make sure you socially distance from the kids until the results are back. 🙁

Augustbreeze · 08/09/2020 17:01

@Myusername2015 ! Has she read the guidelines?!

phlebasconsidered · 08/09/2020 17:02

Child came in with sore throat, told me mum 2as at home aching all over so had given her calpol and sent her in. Sent said child to the office. Office said they'd rung mum who said it was just a cold and sent her back.

I have zero confidence in a) the parents and b) the school office. And i'm knackered and the kids cannot socially distance and I have sodding baseline maths assessments to mark already. I've just had a shower so I can greet my kids and mum and now i'm going to sit in the back room away from them to mark papers that have been sneezed on. Fuck.

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/09/2020 17:02

Jesus, ask your head to put that in writing....

Self certify till results back!

Piggywaspushed · 08/09/2020 17:07

Does anyone know what the guidelines are for PE? Surely if they can play football out if school they can in lessons?

WhyNotMe40 · 08/09/2020 17:08

My dd has come home from school sniffing and snotty. No other symptoms and otherwise fine. Would you keep her home (and miss work and first meeting of some classes) or send her in as she does not have the 3 main symptoms?
I'd love to play safe and keep her home, but I think I should send her in?

WhyNotMe40 · 08/09/2020 17:09

In out of school football they have their own bibs that get taken home, and footballs are sanitised by Dettol spray at the beginning. They are also discouraging tackling, mainly focussing on skills..

WhyNotMe40 · 08/09/2020 17:10

Sorry that probably doesn't help

Augustbreeze · 08/09/2020 17:11

How old is she @WhyNotMe40 - asking to ascertain how easy it'd be to ask her how she feels, if things taste funny etc?

WhyNotMe40 · 08/09/2020 17:11

She's 6

Augustbreeze · 08/09/2020 17:12

Sorry you've probably tried to ascertain those things already!

Augustbreeze · 08/09/2020 17:15

Then just monitor closely for now I guess... by tomorrow morning things may be clearer - altho it's painful having to change the whole household's plans, inform employers and book a test at 0745 in the morning, as I discovered today!

C'est la vie courante!

WhyNotMe40 · 08/09/2020 17:17

She insisted she's fine, smells ok etc. Just full of cold.

WhyNotMe40 · 08/09/2020 17:17

I hope her teachers don't judge me if I send her in!
