You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

Was that about football? It's what my dad's football club are doing?
ThrawnCow · 08/09/2020 17:28

Send her in WhyNot.

WhyNotMe40 · 08/09/2020 17:34

Just checked her temperature. It's up a bit for her, but not near 37.8

Piggywaspushed · 08/09/2020 17:38

Yes, it was! Glad to hear your dad is... I think he may be alone...

S goes every week. His coach reluctantly brought some hand gel the first week and sort of socially distanced them but the coaches get playfighting...

They have now binned all that off and have played several games. They have a competitive fixture this weekend so it is allowed.

It seems another one of those oddities that they aren't supposed to do contact sports in PE , therefore.

motherrunner · 08/09/2020 17:49

Absolutely shattered. Another day teaching 5/5.

Yesterday a Yr 11 pupil emailed me to tell me she was isolating and could I provide work. I was teaching 5/5 lessons, due to extra duties I have one 20 minute break from 8 to 3.45. I then had a staff meeting until 5. I need to leave at 5 to collect my children from wraparound club. When do I send meaningful work home???

motherrunner · 08/09/2020 17:50

And news of another school in my region closed a whole year group bubble today!

Piggywaspushed · 08/09/2020 17:56

mother we keep asking this at school and no one answers!

MrsHamlet · 08/09/2020 17:56

I've had two staff cry on me today, one before 8am.
My throat hurts and I want to cry.

monkeytennis97 · 08/09/2020 17:59

I got told by a year 9 today,"Miss you're the only one (of the staff) who is taking this seriously"....

motherrunner · 08/09/2020 18:00

@Piggywaspushed It’s absolutely ridiculous. I sent the PP I used in the lesson (at 8pm last once kids in bed) but it’s not comparable to the remote teaching they had in the summer when I had time.

@MrsHamlet I feel like crying too. How on Earth is this sustainable?

Frlrlrubert · 08/09/2020 18:21

We've split setting remote learning between the department. This is good.

We're only setting one set per year group (like we did in lockdown), BUT they aren't all doing the same topic in class - so their remote learning will not necessarily cover what they are missing in class. Surely this is madness?

Has anyone else noticed the daily death rate has jumped from 3 to 30 and seems to have passed without comment?

noblegiraffe · 08/09/2020 18:25

@Myusername2015

So both my toddler and I woke up with hacking coughs and temps today. My head was t best pleased. I had to drive 50 miles to a testing centre and was told they have a delay of up to 7 days for results. On hearing this my head said “well it’s probably just a cold always happens this time of year just make sure you socially distance from the kids until the results are back. 🙁
Bloody hell. I'd forward it to my union to deal with tbh.

You can't go in. What if you transmitted it to a kid and it came out you were waiting on results while working?

motherrunner · 08/09/2020 18:26

I’m in the West Mids. The local news is full of schools closing and looks like Birmingham may go into lockdown by the weekend. Nine of this makes national news.

motherrunner · 08/09/2020 18:27

*None

Piggywaspushed · 08/09/2020 18:27

I noticed.

Wonder what the corona deniers will say. Probably still come up with their incorrect sums.

noblegiraffe · 08/09/2020 18:28

I went to a Y7 classroom today, thought it was a bit stuffy and noticed all the windows were shut. This was P3! Kids also say that other staff members are walking around the class.

This is what a lack of INSET session on what teachers should actually be doing leads to.

Cantaloupeisland · 08/09/2020 18:32

Checking in. Only had three year groups in today and the building was rammed, kids all over each other, just felt like normal. Trying to work out the logistics of attendance is exhausting Sad

noblegiraffe · 08/09/2020 18:36

I'm hoping that the govt will look at the increasing cases, look at the number of schools sending year groups home and issue updated guidance.

ChloeCrocodile · 08/09/2020 18:38

Kids also say that other staff members are walking around the class.

We had a few who were vocal about their plan to carry on as normal during our inset. I’m staying at the front, but for one lesson each day I have to walk between rows of kids to get to the front. And then out through crowded corridors while they line up inside the building.

I did have to walk to the back in one lesson tho - a year 7 broke a glass beaker and panicked.

WhyNotMe40 · 08/09/2020 18:40

I've found that as well. Both with entering a classroom with windows shut and being told other teachers are circulating. I am finding it very hard teaching from the front....
phlebasconsidered · 08/09/2020 18:41

I've rearranged my room (again) to give me as much space as poss at the front and kind of pinned in the front row with end desks as they are my flightyfightybitey need a load of help and will GRAB me lot so I figure that at least prevents me having them wander. I've put the trusties at the back. Lord alone knows how I will ever get to anyone else. I don't want to wander the class but given that all our observations and bookscrutinies are still scheduled I don't see how I can function otherwise.

Flightyfighteybitey1 attempted a run out through the brambles today. Flightyfightybitey 2 spent a long time showing my his scab tan lines (scabs fell off in Spain) and "tan tattoo" (the Norwich football crest). All 3 flightyfightybities have apparently forgotten phonics. They are year 6 and all of them are bigger than me.

Augustbreeze · 08/09/2020 18:43

Oo how does one achieve a tan tattoo @phlebasconsidered ?
