You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

Well I managed some sleep. The alarm felt soooooo early, and now I'm being entertained by my teen dd who has not slept a wink all night and is a little hyper at this point!

Off we go! Good luck all.

namechangedyetagain · 01/09/2020 07:22

I really need to get up and look lively but I'm still in denial. I am no longer a TA. I am now officially a student teacher. I still feel like a TA.

Bloody hell what have I done

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/09/2020 07:22

Good luck all today - you’ve totally got this 💪

I’ve been away for a few days so looooooong drive back down south for me today, INSET tomorrow (all in same room for half of the day plus various other meetings in different groups in other rooms I suspect). Then we’ve got Y7 and Y12 in for two days but I don’t work and then rest of years on Monday -not sure how much teaching though that day. Assume we’ll find out tomorrow!!!

I woke up to the smallest yelling "whoopsie, accident" to find him sitting on the window ledge - he's managed to wee behind the radiator while sitting on the window ledge. So that was fun.
I had the usual anxiety dreams about a class I couldn't control, except with added social distancing. Plus every computer I tried to log into wasn't mine and I kept getting told off. Then I had an SLT observation without being able to log in and access my resources so had to do it old school. Then finally I died.
Oh and I hadn't been told I would be teaching either as it was supposed to be inset.
So that was a nice way to wake up Hmm

Good luck everyone. Whatever happens it will.be an improvement on my dream then waking up to wee behind a radiator 👍

WhyNotMe40 · 01/09/2020 07:31

And whoever said about a WhatsApp group - I would definitely like to do that Smile

MsAwesomeDragon · 01/09/2020 07:32

Good luck today everyone. Terrible sleep last night, dozed a lot but woke up regularly, awake for the day at 6 when I don't normally get up til 7. It still feels rather surreal! I'm glad I caught up on this thread though, as someone mentioned lunch and I'd forgotten to make any!!! Quickly making a salad now, lol.

MsAwesomeDragon · 01/09/2020 07:34

Gosh why that sounds like a very stressful start to the day. I hope it improves for you.

WhyNotMe40 · 01/09/2020 07:37

Well at least he told me about his wee Grin

Piggywaspushed · 01/09/2020 07:37

I wish Gibb would stop peddling the line that years 10 and 12 come back to help them prepare for their exams. This is NOT what they said in the summer.

Piggywaspushed · 01/09/2020 07:40

I am so glad most of you are probably too busy to be watching Gibb on BBC1. Such. A. Liar.

DreamingofBrie · 01/09/2020 07:42

Good luck to everyone returning to school today. I'm not in till next week but all of your preparations on this thread have given me loads of good ideas Flowers.

Iamnotthe1 · 01/09/2020 07:42

BBC leading with an article about pupils’ learning is 3 months behind.

  1. Based on what evidence? The kids aren't in the classroom yet so this is just conjecture.
  2. Some slip during the summer anyway.
  3. 3 months is pretty much the entire 'school time' they were off so are you telling me that teachers and heads are of the opinion that no learning took place national during remote teaching? I call bullshit.

Said it before and I'll say it again, he's the one that needs to go - just poisonous.
noblegiraffe · 01/09/2020 07:58

I dreamed I was late and ran over the Asst Head in the car park.

But he is the timetabler I’ve had run-ins with so that was ok.

@Piggywaspushed

Providing hand gel to DH. H is ham fisted so one 'squirt' will no doubt use the whole thing up. He will also protest that he has no where to put it.
Get him a bum bag!

A couple of my tutees are probably ahead of where they would have been without lockdown.
MadameMinimes · 01/09/2020 08:10

Some of my students are definitely ahead of where they would have been without lockdown. Some of them are ones who are usually very diligent and hardworking but also some of the ones that get distracted in school and never do their homework because they are too busy socialising with their friends. There are definitely others who have fallen behind and a few who have done almost no work but they are actually really unusual. My year 13s are well ahead of last year’s group on their NEA and coverage of the course content.

Iamnotthe1 · 01/09/2020 08:12

@EducatingArti

Mine weren't only remote learning for long as we returned at the start of June however, I saw no evidence of any 'slipping'. I can't speak for the other year groups in my school but this sort of statement being put out there by the BBC is misleading at best and deliberate scaremongering at worst.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/09/2020 08:34

Ignore the BBC bollocks.

You’ve got this. You can do it. Fingers crossed you are all getting settled in without too much hassle.

CarrieBlue · 01/09/2020 08:37

Probably a bit late but good luck everyone who’s in today. I’ve panic checked a few times that I have got our term dates right, but I’m really not in until Monday next week (sorry). Will be thinking of you all and will have the kettle on for you when you get home and a large glass of Gin poured ready.

CallmeAngelina · 01/09/2020 08:58

Look, according to the barking mad Piers Corbyn (Jezza's brother) on GMB this morning, this whole Covid thing is a nonsense and a lie. Why on earth have we been wasting our time being concerned?

NeurotrashWarrior · 01/09/2020 09:01

The place is an absolute tip as no one could do anything at the end of term and the school was hardly open over the hols.

Cleaners constantly cleaning though.

phlebasconsidered · 01/09/2020 09:18

Good luck to all - i'm not back till INSET on Thursday and Friday then back to normal on Monday. Thinking of you all. Hope your timetables, flasks and book trolleys all work!
