You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

@noblegiraffe

What I noticed was that she said that while she hadn't read the thread, she had noticed the title in active.

I remember saying before that's why I thought U4T had thread titles like 'schools are safe'.

Their work here is done!
hedgehogger1 · 02/09/2020 19:57

I've got a fucking cold. I've only been back two days. Snot everywhere. Damn it

Malbecfan · 02/09/2020 20:03

TheHoneyBadger I am in awe of you. You rock!

Today was ok. Except that all parents/adults collecting have to wear face coverings. So none of the staff know who they are or which child to send to them. They are now thinking of asking them to bring the signs you see in arrivals halls at airports with their kid's name on it. Best of all, Reception went home at lunch today, so I just had y1 with their wonderful, lovely, gentle, kind, just-passed NQT teacher.

Emailed my now y8 tutor group with some instructions for Monday. I teach them then too and am quite excited to see them in person again. Just a day & a half of INSET plus more primary teaching tomorrow...!

If anyone wants to read about Ofqual and the Ed Select committee grilling (prob not), there's a thread here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/4012764-Exams-Fiasco-Ofqual-drop-Gav-and-Gibb-in-it

CallmeAngelina · 02/09/2020 20:19

Blimey, this thread is almost full now too!

bettsbattenburg · 02/09/2020 20:24

I was outside the high school today at home time.
There was about as much social distancing as there at the bar when they call last orders That was with only three year groups.

eitak22 · 02/09/2020 20:25

The having to be told not to lick reminds me of what happened to a colleague last term. A yr R came up to her and said I cant hug you and then proceeded to lick her on the arm instead.

I have received an email full to the brim with rotas so that's fun. Full hour lunch duty on same day as break duties. Guess I need to retrain my bladder.

MrsHamlet · 02/09/2020 20:27

Thanks noble. Seems my cynicism about the whole thing was not misplaced. Who knew?!

tadjennyp · 02/09/2020 20:35

That is all kinds of wrong eitak22 .
My youngest is all set for school tomorrow and quite excited. He has a nice NQT so he is looking forward to having her and seeing friends. Middle child with the EHCP has had his timetable sent to him so we can prepare him, which was thoughtful. The county council sent a big letter about how to use the buses. DD is not impressed 😂

Two days of INSET survived. Feeling very bizarre. Apart from a 10min mention and being told there are a few documents in a folder there has been NO discussion about covid related changes at school. NO discussion as to equipment use and sharing, new lunch and break routines, blended learning. NOTHING. All SLT are behaving as though it is the start of a normal year. Children arrive tomorrow and I have no idea how things are supposed to work. All very weird. Anyone else's school like this?

Mine was exactly the same yesterday.
GravityFalls · 02/09/2020 20:41

Yes, our SLT are relying heavily on the phrase “where possible” on the grounds that most of the guidance isn’t possible and we can therefore ignore it. In a sense, they’re right, but still...we have a staff meeting on Friday morning (yes, in person, in the sports hall but...) with students in on Monday. But also an union meeting scheduled right afterwards!

CountDuckulasKetchup · 02/09/2020 20:46

Ah bollocks, two days in and a colleague casually mentions waiting for their spouses test result back....

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 02/09/2020 20:53

@monkeytennis97 at least I'm not the only one.

@CountDuckulasKetchup good luck. It is only a matter of time for all of us.

noblegiraffe · 02/09/2020 21:06

I’d think you were at my school, Squashed but we haven’t even got a few documents in a folder.

Teaching tomorrow and no idea how it is supposed to look. Oh well, wing-it it is.

Not at all. That sounds negligent in the extreme (and the predictable result of 'where possible' all.over the guidance).

That will be some cover coming up @CountDuckulasKetchup

Agree with salty our last two days have been sorting out this ' new way of learning'.

Do you have year bubbles?

Oh my god I'm knackered.

My eldest started secondary today so between that and going back I have not slept well.

Then the gazillion bits of information, sorting out all the books etc to the right room, photocopy issues (2 staff only in the repro room!) & I am hanging out tired.

Bed in a few minutes....back to it properly tomorrow, and lunch duty. Argh!!!

MrsHamlet · 02/09/2020 21:26

We've hired two new cover supervisors. One of them is stressed about doing cover. We haven't had a child in the building yet!

Danglingmod · 02/09/2020 21:29

What did they think the job entailed? Shock

MrsHamlet · 02/09/2020 21:30

I wondered the same thing!
