You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/08/2020 16:01

CAGs standing 😵

U Turn

Piggywaspushed · 17/08/2020 16:04

Making Ofqual take the responsibility, I note...

This does make parents realise all the dodgy standardisation that goes on with exams (and coursework) now, I think.

Out of genuine academic curiosity I will want to see on Thursday what Ofqual was going to award but I bet we never know...

Sureitwillbegrand · 17/08/2020 16:05

Wish I hadn't been honest on CAGS now Grin but seriously CAGS should have been given with schools who look to have overinflated results been scrutinised.

RigaBalsam · 17/08/2020 16:05

GCSEs not delayed. All hands on deck I bet.

Iamnotthe1 · 17/08/2020 16:06

FFS! Don't blame Ofqual - it's your fucking mess, Gav!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/08/2020 16:07

Where does this leave all the students that didn’t get their university offers and lost their places? Presumably a lot of those places got filled at the end of last week be pupils who got higher than expected.

What a complete fuck up.

Kashtan · 17/08/2020 16:09

Omg, what a mess. What happens to the odd kid who got a higher grade than their CAG, does that stand now?
( namechanger, sorry)

ineedaholidaynow · 17/08/2020 16:10

Will any pupils get lower grades now?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/08/2020 16:10

I believe that stand Kashtan.

noblegiraffe · 17/08/2020 16:11

What about the kids who accepted their insurance offers and now want their first choice back?

I saw Lewis Goodall on twitter saying that non-Russell Group unis are worried this will leave them without any students.

Piggywaspushed · 17/08/2020 16:15

I want to know about whether students can choose GCSE CAGs : it would be unfair if A Level can and not GCSE.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 17/08/2020 16:15

Ah well at least teachers can now be blamed if there is a difference between CAG and UCAS.

Ffs

@noblegiraffe - polish up your cv there is a vacancy in the offing. Probable start date October.

The U4T lot keep telling me to quit teaching.

ineedaholidaynow · 17/08/2020 16:22

How can U4T have any faith in the Government in getting schools back safely after this?

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 17/08/2020 16:22

@noblegiraffe - Perfect! You can tell them that you have taken their advice and found a new job opportunity, sit back and watch the meltdown Grin

win win for us teachers

@Piggywaspushed

From what I’ve seen reported I think they can. Like A levels they’ll be able to take the highest of the CAG and algorithm.

Which presumably means in an attempt to avoid grades being inflated, the government have somehow managed to inflate them higher than they would have been if they’d just used CAG.

ineedaholidaynow · 17/08/2020 16:23

Will this impact next year’s exams?

Piggywaspushed · 17/08/2020 16:23

Yes... could be awkward for us some of this...

ChloeCrocodile · 17/08/2020 16:27

That’s my worry now too. I suppose we just have to remind ourselves (and possibly others) that the CAGs were based on the evidence of our students’ work, not plucked out of thin air. However, I’m absolutely certain some parents at my school are going to kick off.
