You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

Shall I nip over and have a look?

CallmeAngelina · 24/07/2020 10:50

Yes, it is, although you didn't say where it was from.
Good post, but they will abandon their happy niceness and savage you for it, I expect.

ohthegoats · 24/07/2020 10:54

Was yesterday, I'm sure they're over it now. Haha.

Just seen a picture of Johnson in a school or nursery, WEARING A MASK. Why? Schools are safe...

Piggywaspushed · 24/07/2020 10:56

I don't think they are Pollyannas. They are some of the most unpleasant people on MN.

I swear the reality check poster gets such a hard time because a) there is challenge to their narrative and b) they think/assume he's a man and so must be excluded and vilified like in 'Life and Loves of the She Devil'! I am not sure they would get so far if they weren't able to claim he was being patronising.

Piggywaspushed · 24/07/2020 10:57

They asked him to and he didn't dare say no, I expect.

Piggywaspushed · 24/07/2020 10:57

Where is this picture??

noblegiraffe · 24/07/2020 11:00

Tbf to Johnson, you’re supposed to wear a mask around people you wouldn’t normally meet. That’s why teachers don’t need them, because we ‘normally meet’ a thousand-odd kids.

Sure I saw something about cabinet meeting without masks too.

Piggywaspushed · 24/07/2020 11:01

In which case all our risk assessments should insist visitors wear masks?

LOLing at James Felton's comment!

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/07/2020 13:14

That thread has an air of GF.

You're right of course Nobel, re vaccine, just repeating how it's been said to me! I think they're skipping a lot of things though? I was told they don't know long term efficacy but it's enough to help for now.

noblegiraffe · 24/07/2020 13:24

They are obviously fast-tracking the vaccine. I guess they don’t care about long term efficacy because they’ll be thinking of it like the flu vaccine which just needs to last a winter to avoid NHS overload.

The vaccine trials I worked on went on for years (and didn’t get approved!)

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/07/2020 13:57

One friend who works in scientific uni research said it was amazing how everything that usually was so hard to get funding for it approval for, was suddenly easy as pie. The usual barriers have just disappeared.

Piggywaspushed · 24/07/2020 14:21

Interesting article about how things are going in Europe and Germany's lack of certainty that reopening schools isn't contributing to a rise in infections.

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/24/europe-warns-of-need-for-vigilance-as-covid-19-cases-rise-sharply

Meanwhile, schools in SA are closing back down.

CallmeAngelina · 24/07/2020 14:35

Blimey - anyone fancy posting that link on the Happy thread?

Piggywaspushed · 24/07/2020 14:36

No, because that would piss on their chips. They eat a lot of chips.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/07/2020 18:28

Nah, they're practicing a special kind of ignorance. Jet them pop their own bubble.

A friend in Belgium is worried about a very sharp spike in cases right now. When I looked at the worldometer I could see why.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/07/2020 18:35

Gosh yes, Spain is sharply spiking.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 24/07/2020 20:17

I think the positive thread might have been the reason I hid the CV topic and ended up crashing your staff room threads.

Piggywaspushed · 24/07/2020 20:19

I am one of those people in life who does not warm to the relentlessly positive types...it's that air of moral superiority. Blind optimism, fine. Glass half full, OK. Smug positivity, nope.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 24/07/2020 20:42

I’m normally ok in RL. I just have less tolerance for it on here.

Having said that, the point I realised I needed my GP to sign me off for a bit was when I snapped at one of the ‘relentlessly positive’ people at work telling me the virus was here to stay and we just need to get on with it the other week.

Here in Victoria, 91 schools have been shut down since mid-March. Most of these are in Melbourne. To be sure most are open after cleaning but it gives pause for thought. Only years 11 and 12 are taught on-site.

While class sizes are smaller - 25 max - the common areas, e.g corridors, staircases and locker bays are much the same as in the UK, i.e social distancing impossible at changeover. Masks are compulsory for all, except teachers when they are actually teaching. Daily temperatures are taken before being allowed into the building.

Cases are rising sharply in Vic, mostly in aged care homes. Masks for all in Melbourne outside the home ( unless jogging or cycling :o) with a $200 fine if caught without.

I wouldn't be surprised if schools shut down soon.

echt · 24/07/2020 21:12

Should have been Hmm, with knobs on.

Piggywaspushed · 24/07/2020 21:39

Another thing for gov to ignore :
