You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

yes, I thought that neuro. I think more children with diabetes and asthma got shielding letters than adults with the same conditions.

NeurotrashWarrior · 28/06/2020 20:43

Ah ok I see.

CallmeAngelina · 28/06/2020 20:51

Oh fuck it. I seem to have put the cat among the pigeons over on the "bin home schooling" thread by letting on that my school has opened more widely. Much frothing.

SecularPanic · 28/06/2020 21:15

Has anyone got a link to the SAGE advice to teachers?

BlessYourCottonSocks · 28/06/2020 21:16

Just checking in. I've given up entirely on other threads now. You can't argue with these people and it just enrages me. I'm protecting my mental health currently by burying my head in the sand. I'm not doing anything this summer until we know exactly what will happen in September.I'm just going to wing the first week.

Howaboutanewname · 28/06/2020 21:19

@NeurotrashWarrior

I have an asthmatic Type 1 diabetic and he hasn’t been told to shield. We are being very cautious, however, and his school refused to have him back. The stats on type 1 are frightening and I suspect some parents may make the decision to home school until there is a vaccine.

hedgehogger1 · 28/06/2020 21:20

My son got sent a shielding letter but only when I contacted the docs about him returning to school as a key worker kid. He's got asthma and has been hospitalised with pneumonia twice and has something up with one kidney that he's under a consultant for

Danglingmod · 28/06/2020 21:23

I've just been told I clearly don't work in the Uk because I suggested some parents might consider moving their precious dc to a slightly less mc school if said slightly less desirable/mc/mn approved school had been clearly offering a much better lockdown provision. I was told there are no spaces in schools in the Uk so I clearly don't know what I'm talking about. Erm, yes, it's schools with spaces AND which have been offering excellent provision that I'm talking about (as we know reputations lag decades behind reality of what is actually a good school). I cannae be arsed to reply.

ohthegoats · 28/06/2020 21:41

I HAVE FINISHED MY FUCKING REPORTS.

Now have to record a lesson for tomorrow's maths. Fucksake.

CallmeAngelina · 28/06/2020 22:00

Blessyourcottonsocks, I should do the same. I got sucked into "binning homeschooling" and I really shouldn't have.

CallmeAngelina · 28/06/2020 22:00

Being asked now why on earth teachers aren't phoning individual pupils on their own mobile phones from home.
WTF?!

ohthegoats · 28/06/2020 22:03

Because it's flipping painful, that's why.

How are you?
Fine.
What have you been up to?
Nuffink.
Nothing? Have you watched any good telly?
Not really.
Read any good books?
Not really.

And so on....

OK, can I talk to mummy please?
Yeah, bye.
Bye.
WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME MY CHILD HAD ADHD?
Bye...

CarrieBlue · 28/06/2020 22:13

The thread about wearing face masks in pubs and restaurants - it seems everyone wants them worn - they don’t seem to get that their kids will have not been wearing them and the teachers have been told not to so they are at far more risk from their own kids than bar staff.

RigaBalsam · 28/06/2020 22:34

Apparently Big Gav is on the Nick Ferrari show in the morning. Wonder what bull he will talk this time.

Rosieposy4 · 28/06/2020 22:42

We have reading ages for every kid on our classcharts app, ( seating plans and behaviour, and access to send records)
I “think” the kids get tested every year ( secondary)

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2020 22:58

Gav will just keep thanking teachers and saying boobles and ambition.

I don't listen to the radio but I am sure someone on here will fill us in.

StrawberryJam200 · 28/06/2020 23:42

Boris is now promising 'new' money for buildings (although only about 12% of what's actually needed):

www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-53215221

I do hope that's not been announced in the hope of quieting teachers and school leaders in the face of the new guidance which we're about to get......

IgnoranceIsStrength · 29/06/2020 07:07

Just to add to the mobile point. I have a work mobile as a DSL and have had to contact 50 students every week as (college of 4000)..and it has been painful. Beyond painful..

NeurotrashWarrior · 29/06/2020 07:38

Ds hides in embarrassment and won't talk to the teacher.

Saucery · 29/06/2020 07:40

DS’s teachers contact him on the landline and ask for him through us. I assumed that might be safeguarding related, or maybe it’s a way of letting parents know their child is being contacted regularly. I know they have his mobile number and that he would answer it if they rang directly.

I was thinking about the Teacher Hate on here last night, after a couple of conversations with family about GP visits. 1 awful response to a potentially serious (non Covid) illness, 1 so-so contact that was fine after initial difficulty actually getting through the increased reception gatekeeping and 1 marvellous, straightforward visit.
So 3 practices, all different but I wouldn’t dream of saying “ALL GPs must up their game and treat patients IMMEDIATELY!”
If I did start a thread saying that I’d quite rightly have my arse handed to me. And probably deleted. I guess the argy-bargy brings clicks to MN 🤷‍♀️

Piggywaspushed · 29/06/2020 07:45

Do you think they will announce that we have to hire and pay for eg a village hall, and at some point in the next 10 years claim this back through this crumbling buildings fund?!

It definitely does seem a suspicious thing to announce, reminiscent of those hospitals he promised during the GE.

NeurotrashWarrior · 29/06/2020 07:47

Poor Boris, he's having to become all socialist and care about things like school buildings and the nhs.

There's dark humour in a government that's spent so much time decentralising everything and then realising how hard it is to reverse the damage and operate centrally in a time of crisis.,

Piggywaspushed · 29/06/2020 07:59

Gav is on BBC at 8am. Is this going to be the new place to hide announcements now that briefing is gone?

A Monday would be a bit thoughtful mind.

AppleKatie · 29/06/2020 07:59

My son’s teacher has phoned once since 20th March.

Rather than assume she’s a workshy lazy cow I’ve assumed she’s a) busy b) concentrating on the DC who are much more vulnerable than mine who she knows are living in a two teacher household.

AppleKatie · 29/06/2020 08:01

It’s a 10 year building plan I’ve just read. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ That’s what every secondary pupil needs right now isn’t it.
