You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

Appu - I think the general consensus is we're backwards 'little england' ers.

Piggywaspushed · 06/05/2020 20:57

Who IS Chris Dyson? I know what he is (an arrogant personage) but not really who....

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/05/2020 21:13

Govt getting fed up now...

No idea.

I've got a cough at the moment. Spoke to head this morning about a child, she asked if I was alright because my voice sounded odd. I'm 90% sure it's not the lurg, but I'm in work next week and she said not to go in with the cough. I'd not bat an eyelid about this level of ill normally- ie, I'm not ill and I'd be at work. Just made me realise that the level of staffing absence, even to get tests and wait for results, is going to be off the charts.

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/05/2020 21:17

Pfrench I've been saying that repeatedly on threads (don't bother now) and it's not going to be any better in September as far as I can tell, unless testing is ultra slick.

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/05/2020 21:17

I hope you're ok?

Piggywaspushed · 06/05/2020 21:17

My temperature today is 37.9 and I am right as rain. Some workplaces wouldn't let me in!!

CallmeAngelina · 06/05/2020 21:19

And how will all those parents be "managed" who have historically sent their kids in to school when they're clearly unwell, because they need to go to work? It's a whole different ball-game if they do that from now on.

Piggywaspushed · 06/05/2020 21:25

Yeah, to be fair that's me. DS2 has had 100% attendance since nursery.

The first time he ever had off was just before lockdown when I had to isolate.

MossWalk · 06/05/2020 21:26

Hope it doesn't get any worse pfrench.

Imagine two weeks in when we all get a sore throat from retraining our voices...

RigaBalsam · 06/05/2020 21:26

Honey badger which Exam board are you with?

GravityFalls · 06/05/2020 21:34

I basically only keep my kids off if they’re puking (no double standards, I don’t take time off unless necessary either) so if they start quarantining for coughs, sneezes etc our rate of absence will go way up. Funnily enough both DC had night time coughs (they get them every year) when lockdown started, but they’re long gone now. Not looking forward to the classroom bugs being back in circulation.

Feenie · 06/05/2020 21:39

Who IS Chris Dyson?

Our head did quite a funny WhatsApp rant doing exactly this today. She ended up posting Nikki from B&B when she'd finished being pissed off.

He's head of an outstanding school in a challenging part of Leeds and does loads for the community - absolutely loads. He makes sure everyone knows about it and is a bit of a dick sometimes.

pfrench · 06/05/2020 21:39

I've been a teacher for 12 years and never had a day off sick. Child has never had a day off anything either. We're lucky with the health thing, but also I always feel shit first thing, but usually start feeling better by 9. I feel a fraud staying off work.

Piggywaspushed · 06/05/2020 21:41

Ha feenie. I am glad you got my allusion! Grin

pfrench · 06/05/2020 21:43

What did he post on twitter?

I did loads of work today, got my lessons recorded for the rest of the week. Rest of the week on cpd. Oh, it's only tomorrow.

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/05/2020 21:45

He said there was going to be an announcement tomorrow. The very next tweet I saw was the one from the dfe below!

Pie Corbett has rt this pod cast and I have to say I'm vety much in agreement.

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/05/2020 21:46

(Not listened but headline enough!)

Asuitablecat · 06/05/2020 21:50

piggy after last night' explanation about women's temperatures, dh would now do his questionnaire on you and
You'D be allowed in.

pfrench · 06/05/2020 21:53

How would he know? Or is that the point?

There is someone on the coronavirus board saying they 'know', but then they quoted the Irish plan and then said they needed to name change. Ha.

Piggywaspushed · 06/05/2020 21:54

This all sounds a bit threatening!

Piggywaspushed · 06/05/2020 22:02

I think he needs to add 'are the Red Army about to invade?' to his questionnaire, just for his info!

drspouse · 06/05/2020 22:03

@noblegiraffe DS is in a PRU and risk assessing and sending home pupils that spit or cough as a form of aggression is exactly what they are doing.
(Sorry for parent intrusion)

FlyLight · 06/05/2020 22:07

BBC made a point of mentioning the parent kind survey on the news, apparently 9 out of 10 parents wouldn't be happy opening too soon

GuyFawkesDay · 06/05/2020 22:11

I reckon unions need to just say schools will go back once MPs are all back in parliament.

Not safe for them, not safe for us.
