You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

I didn't see how it started going riga. The lancet article states the rates are novel and unprecedented which was enough to issue a nationwide alert.

The "schools have a duty of care" and general safeguarding understanding of many is woeful.

Appuskidu · 10/05/2020 11:45

Biscuit is really going for it now Grin

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/05/2020 11:46

I saw that pfrench. Can you claim the 40 quid on the school budget? I'm hoping my sons school will do it as it's the only thing he's regularly doing!

TheHoneyBadger · 10/05/2020 11:46

Yep me too. Loving the idea of pissed HTs on zoom Grin

I think I’m going to request switching to my specialist subject and spreading my teaching over an extra day as accommodation for going back to work with disability. If they say no I don’t know what I’m going to do. I can’t envisage going back to doing 5 days work for 2 days pay and getting no support or training in non specialty. But what comes after teaching?

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/05/2020 11:47

So tents and buckets now.

It's becoming more like Glastonbury by the hour.

pfrench · 10/05/2020 11:48

Every so often they ask me if i want to go over the threshold again and my answer is always no.

Same here. Was deputy, have gone back to a phase leader. I'm earning more now because I've gone from 0.8 - full time, but the head space and stress is much lower - the reality is, I work less in real terms than I used to, even though I'm officially paid to do more.

They keep asking me if I want to do NPQH or NPQSL, it gets written on my performance management thingy in September, then I rub it out by Christmas. I just don't want to do it. Even more so now - the nest few years as a head are going to be awful.

I predict a lot of early retirement and part time requests.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/05/2020 11:50

Pfrench in future download everything whilst it’s free. Which reminds me I need to download all the resources I created. HOD will block my access if she gets a whiff of me leaving. She insists on everything being added to the shared drive and has form for locking it to anyone leaving

pfrench · 10/05/2020 11:51

Can you claim the 40 quid on the school budget?

Doubt it - I already pay for every other 'thing' I use by myself. It's worth it for time saving. It'll take me more than 4 hours to make up a year's worth of worksheets for 2 years groups!!

MossWalk · 10/05/2020 11:51

She insists on everything being added to the shared drive and has form for locking it to anyone leaving

FFS. Atrocious.

pfrench · 10/05/2020 11:52

Pfrench in future download everything whilst it’s free

It's only being made a week at a time!! Those bastards, not providing everything for FREE. How very dare they!

phlebasconsidered · 10/05/2020 11:54

I saw that with White Rose too. Money grabbing twits. Of course my school won't pay either and I refuse to. I have got all the year 6 third space slides if they're any use?

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/05/2020 11:54

Most of our most experienced and able teachers are now part time. Mainly as having children was incompatible with being a teacher. The only ones who aren't have university age children or are young, single, pre children. Or male and married to a part time teacher.

It's very hard in SEN as you rely on staff with all the training as well as the experience and attitude to keep the school ticking over. There's not the budget these days for the kind of training we used to get.

I know of one male teacher who went part time when he had kids; I really admire him for making that decision. Not sure what his wife does.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/05/2020 11:56

She is atrocious in all ways. Tried to bully me into writing a whole unit of work last year despite being a non specialist on 0.4 with no gain back time. Got very nasty when I explained directed time and had to put my foot down. She even had a student writing a unit and a colleague on maternity leave. She had about 90% gain back and didn’t write a thing. She tried to tell me I would find it uncomfortable if my colleagues thought I hadn’t done my share. I told her my colleagues were aware of the difference between full time and part time and gain back time and no gain back time. It was awful

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/05/2020 11:57

It's so frustrating pfrench, wtf are BBC Bitesize going to do for the maths as I thought they were using it?

The govt should have Nationalised all
These things!

Dh once bought me a subscription to twinkl "if it's going to save you some time."

Our school refuse to get a subscription to twinkl. Staff trade logins for allegiances. It's a form of loyalty currency sometimes.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/05/2020 11:58

Jesus honey. Angry

MossWalk · 10/05/2020 12:02

Shocking Angry

EducatingArti · 10/05/2020 12:02

"Would it be the case that, if we didn’t go back until Sept (and people abided to the lockdown..) fewer drastic social distancing measures would be needed?"

Yes! This exactly. Plus a robust test and trace system

TheHoneyBadger · 10/05/2020 12:05

‘Luckily’ I ended up in hospital having major emergency surgery. Don’t know how it would have ended otherwise. I was at the stage of cc’ing slt into emails.

Can’t face having to deal with her anymore so everything crossed for a department change

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/05/2020 12:09

I have a login for twinkl, school don't pay for it. I use it for my nurture groups, as they actually need work aimed at year 3 and 4. I let all of my department use it as long as they only use it on the school premises. If you use a single person login from a different location they change your password because you've been "hacked", but from the same school building is fine.

Dd's school have the white rose subscription so they are sending us the worksheets by email from this week as we can't get them from the website any more. So I now have access to the worksheets for years 3-6 for this week.

MossWalk · 10/05/2020 12:20

We’re going to end up in tents, aren’t we? Our education system is going to be laughing stock of the world. Jesus wept.

CallmeAngelina · 10/05/2020 12:21

Do you remember the thread in the staffroom about teachers kind of wishing for "accidents" that were serious enough to warrant time off work for a while, but not serious enough to kill them? (Yes, teaching is that great a career!)
Don't suppose anyone foresaw Corona virus coming! Not that we've got time off work exactly, despite what loads on here think.

reefedsail · 10/05/2020 12:21

Each White Rose lesson is now linked to the BBC Bitesize daily lesson, so in theory you could use whatever is on there as the follow-up task.

My school just bought a premium subscription though. It will be useful for other things. I hope White Rose keep making the videos!

Asuitablecat · 10/05/2020 12:26

I'm constantly torn been going up to hod, so am doing the npqml (which is what i should be doing RIGHT now before our cold and windy enforced march of the day) and going down. Going up could well mean the end of my career. I've seen iy finish off too many people and I like having some kind of life outside school. But going down is almost impossible cos I'm expensive. I think I've either burned out or am close to it. It was easy when work was my life and i put it first, even when the kids were tiny. Especially when the kids were tiny tbh, cos it was an escape. But I've seen work destroy too many good people over the years.

CallmeAngelina · 10/05/2020 12:27

We're going to need a new thread soon.

GravityFalls · 10/05/2020 12:27

Well I for one can’t wait to teach Film Studies in a tent 😂
