My oldest son came to me earlier asking how to spell 'snorkeling', I told him he should check the dictionary (he can be lazy). My youngest straight away says "I'll help you big bro" and wrote it down, no help at all. I know he is quite advanced but would be nice to know how much by.
Thank you

7?

Sleepthiefismyfavourite · 15/12/2019 21:00

9?

LoisLittsLover · 15/12/2019 21:00

Writing is simillar to dd age 5 in formation. She would probably struggle to sound out snorkeling completely independently though so i would say your child is probably y1 as she is reception

FabulouslyGlamorousReindeer · 15/12/2019 21:00

Clever year 1 or 2?

WatchoutfortheROUS · 15/12/2019 21:01

Yes I'd say year 1/2?

AhoyMrBeaver · 15/12/2019 21:01

KS1 kid who reads a lot.

WaterSheep · 15/12/2019 21:01

6/7?

WatchoutfortheROUS · 15/12/2019 21:02

I don't think you can judge how advanced a child is from spelling one word right though!! Grin

Ohyesiam · 15/12/2019 21:02

Year 2

Ohyesiam · 15/12/2019 21:03

That was meant to have ca question mark

ToastyFingers · 15/12/2019 21:03

Year 1? The letters are formed well but the spacing is a bit off Smile

PurpleDaisies · 15/12/2019 21:03

That could be reception/year 1. It involves sounds from phase 3.

Jodie77 · 15/12/2019 21:04

About 6/7 so years 1/2

fedup21 · 15/12/2019 21:04

I wouldn’t be surprised to see this in my Reception class.

How old are they?

IShitGlitter · 15/12/2019 21:05

Am guessing 2 Wink

xyzandabc · 15/12/2019 21:05

That's way neater than my year 3, 7 yr olds writing but his writing is pretty terrible compared to most of his peers. So I'd say maybe age 6 ish.

Supersimkin2 · 15/12/2019 21:05

Are you American? If not, it's spelled wrong.

a 4-5 yr old maybe?

elliejjtiny · 15/12/2019 21:05

My year 4 nearly 9 year old couldn't write that neatly and would need help with spelling. My year 7 11 year old would write it heater and in join we up writing so I would say year 5.

MrsPMT · 15/12/2019 21:06

I 'd say about age 6 or 7

Allmyfavouritepeople · 15/12/2019 21:06

Snorkeling is made up of phase 3 sounds so at this point of the year it could be a clever reception child or age appropriate year 1.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 15/12/2019 21:06

5?

PissPotPourri · 15/12/2019 21:06

Identical writing to my year1 ds. If I said 'snorkeling' to him clearly he'd write it correctly.

PurpleDaisies · 15/12/2019 21:08

It wouldn’t have to be a “clever” reception child.

I would say year 5.

Bloody hell, you’re not a primary teacher.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 15/12/2019 21:08

If you're in the UK, you might want to tell your older son that it has a double l, btw!

Glitterygracie · 15/12/2019 21:08

Writing is about a year 1 level. The spelling is good but as it's decodable a bright year 1 or average year 2 should be able to get it....... go on op how old is he? Grin
