My oldest son came to me earlier asking how to spell 'snorkeling', I told him he should check the dictionary (he can be lazy). My youngest straight away says "I'll help you big bro" and wrote it down, no help at all. I know he is quite advanced but would be nice to know how much by.
Thank you

@Supersimkin2 I didn't realise it was spelt wrong. In that case I'm guessing OP's ds is 38 Grin

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 15/12/2019 21:10

Quite a confident opening post so I'm waiting for the big reveal of six months old Grin

Y1 for the handwriting. Y2 for the spelling (I wouldn't expect them to know it's two l's for a while).

Letter formation is interesting. The first three are shaky, especially the O which points to an early writer.... Although most early writers find the letter K difficult and this K has been written very confidently, as has the G. Did your boys help each other out with the writing OP? It's confusing me.

PurpleDaisies · 15/12/2019 21:14

Do I win a prize? I said reception.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 15/12/2019 21:15

@Madnessmum. I think that’s great for a reception aged child. Both the writing and the spelling (just tell them both it needs a double ‘l’)

It’s lovely he wanted to help his brother 😊

notallrainbows · 15/12/2019 21:24

I would have said 5 as my DD in reception would have no problem with this

IncrediblySadToo · 15/12/2019 21:24

@TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross

No, try reading the thread again, most guessed older

RebeccaCloud9 · 15/12/2019 21:27

I was going to say (before I saw update!)
Foundation: v good
Year 1: good

thegreylady · 15/12/2019 21:27

5/6

TreesSandSea · 15/12/2019 21:28

Spelling Y3
Writing R/Y1

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 15/12/2019 21:29

It’s an easily decodable word so I would have said reception.

PurpleDaisies · 15/12/2019 21:32

Interesting they’re not teaching cursive/pre cursive straight away. I thought most primaries were doing that now.

Moonmaker · 15/12/2019 21:34

Reception . I've taught in early years for long enough now . The letter formation is not mature enough for year one and above .

olivertwistwantsmore · 15/12/2019 21:37

He’s gone for US spelling - should be ‘snorkelling’

But great job for a dc in Reception.
